General Safety Precautions:

 Ensure all lab personnel are trained on safety protocols, equipment handling,
and emergency procedures.
 Always wear the appropriate PPE, including lab coats, safety goggles, gloves,
and hearing protection as required.
 Turn off and unplug instruments when performing maintenance, and ensure all
equipment is properly grounded to avoid electric shock.
 Be cautious when handling delicate or sensitive instruments to prevent damage
or malfunctions.
 Regularly calibrate instruments to ensure they are providing accurate and
reliable readings.
 Be aware of and follow safety guidelines for any chemicals or substances in the
lab that could damage instruments or pose health risks.
 Use anti-static mats and wristbands when working with sensitive electronic
equipment to prevent electrostatic discharge (ESD).
 Ensure proper ventilation in the lab to avoid exposure to harmful fumes, gases,
or heat generated by equipment.
 Familiarize yourself with the location of fire extinguishers, eyewash stations,
and first aid kits, and know how to use them.
 Keep the lab tidy to prevent accidents, such as tripping hazards or
contamination of instruments and materials.

Objective:
The objective of the experiment is to study the characteristics of Humidity
Sensor.

Apparatus:
• Sensor Unit
• Operational Amplifiers Unit
• Two Multimeters
• Jumper wires

Theory:
A humidity sensor measures the amount of moisture in the air. It tells you how
humid or dry the air is by detecting water vapor levels. This information is often
used in weather stations, homes, and industrial settings to monitor and control
humidity for comfort, health, and safety.

Types of Humidity sensor:

_________________________________________________________________________

• Capacitive Sensor
• Resistive Sensor
• Thermal Sensor

Working principle of sensors:

• Sensing Element: The core part of a humidity sensor is the sensing

element, which interacts with the water vapor in the air.
• Signal Conversion: The sensor converts the changes detected by the
sensing element (like changes in capacitance, resistance, or temperature)
into an electrical signal.
• Data Output: This electrical signal is then processed and converted into a
readable format, like a percentage of relative humidity, which can be
displayed on a screen or used by other devices.
Uses of Humidity sensor:

• Weather Forecasting: Humidity sensors help meteorologists predict

weather conditions.
• Home Comfort: In HVAC systems, they help maintain comfortable
humidity levels indoors.
• Industrial Applications: They are used in manufacturing and storage
facilities to ensure the proper conditions for products that are sensitive to
moisture.
• Health: Maintaining proper humidity levels can help reduce respiratory
problems and prevent the growth of mold and bacteria.

Procedure:
• Connect the humidity sensor in series with a resistor as shown in the
provided circuit diagram
• Connect the circuit to the IT-5927 Trainer.
• Attach a digital voltmeter to measure the output voltage from the rectifier
circuit.
• Record the initial output voltage under normal ambient conditions using the
digital voltmeter.
• Place your mouth near the humidity transducer and breathe on it for a short
time.

• Record the new output voltage reading from the digital voltmeter
immediately after breathing.
• Monitor the time taken for the output voltage to return to its initial value.
• Record the recovery time.
• Enter the initial and post-breathing voltage readings in Table 2.
• Note whether the recovery time is less than or more than 10 minutes.

Calculation Table:
Temprature = 31.2 0 C (environment)

% Humidity Temprature Voltage

10 28 0.8
20 28.5 1.3
25 29 1.4

30 29.5 1.53

35 30 1.83

Conclusion:
In this experiment, we studied the characteristics of a humidity sensor by
analyzing the relationship between relative humidity (%RH), output voltage, and
temperature. We observed and concluded that the sensor's output voltage changes
with varying humidity levels, demonstrating a direct correlation. Additionally,
temperature variations influenced the sensor's readings, highlighting the need for
temperature compensation to ensure accurate humidity measurements. Overall,
the experiment confirmed the sensor's capability to measure humidity effectively,
provided appropriate calibration is applied for temperature changes.
