Data Communication System and Computer Network
Data Communication System
Definition: The process of transmitting data (information) between two or more devices
through a medium.
1. Components of Data Communication
- Sender: The device sending the data (e.g., computer, phone).
- Receiver: The device receiving the data.
- Transmission Medium: The physical path for data transfer (e.g., cables, wireless signals).
- Message: The actual data being communicated (text, audio, video, etc.).
- Protocol: Set of rules governing the data transmission.
2. Characteristics of Data Communication
- Delivery: Ensures data is sent to the correct recipient.
- Accuracy: Data must be transmitted accurately without errors.
- Timeliness: Data must reach the recipient in a timely manner.
- Jitter: Variation in packet arrival time, especially critical in audio/video transmission.
