Activity 1: Pair work

1. Do you think the people like their jobs? Why or why not?

• Dolphin trainer: Yes, I think the dolphin trainer really enjoys her job. Working
with dolphins is not only exciting but also fulfilling because dolphins are intelligent and friendly
animals. The trainer has the opportunity to form a special bond with the dolphins, teach them
new tricks, and take care of their health and well-being. The joy and satisfaction of seeing the
dolphins perform and knowing they are well cared for can make this job very rewarding.

• Video-game tester: I believe the video-game tester enjoys their job, especially if
they are passionate about gaming. This job involves playing the latest games before they are
released, finding bugs, and providing feedback to developers. It allows them to work indoors,
often with flexible hours, and stay updated with the latest trends in the gaming industry. For a
gaming enthusiast, this can be a dream job.

• Lumberjack: Whether a lumberjack likes their job can depend on personal

preferences. Some might enjoy the physical nature of the work, being outdoors, and the
satisfaction of a hard day’s work. However, it is also a dangerous and physically demanding job,
which might not appeal to everyone. The steady income and the sense of independence might be
motivating factors for those who choose this profession.

• Movie extra: Most movie extras probably enjoy their job because it offers a
chance to be part of a movie production and meet famous actors. While the work can be sporadic
and involves long hours of waiting, the experience of being on set and in front of the camera can
be thrilling. It provides a glimpse into the film industry, which can be fascinating for those
interested in movies.

2. What do you think they do on a typical day?

• Dolphin trainer: On a typical day, a dolphin trainer might start with preparing
food and feeding the dolphins. They would then conduct training sessions, teaching the dolphins
new behaviors and practicing for shows. The trainer would also monitor the dolphins’ health,
perform routine checks, and ensure the tanks are clean. They might also participate in
performances, showcasing the dolphins’ skills to an audience.

• Video-game tester: A typical day for a video-game tester would involve playing
video games for extended periods to identify bugs and glitches. They would document these
issues and report them to the development team. The tester might also provide feedback on
gameplay, graphics, and user experience. Meetings with developers to discuss findings and
suggest improvements could also be part of their day.

• Lumberjack: A lumberjack’s day usually begins early in the morning. They might
start by inspecting and maintaining their equipment. Then, they head into the forest to cut down
trees, process the logs, and transport them to a collection site. The job involves using heavy
machinery and ensuring safety procedures are followed. Their day can be physically exhausting
and requires a lot of manual labor.

• Movie extra: A movie extra’s day can vary greatly depending on the production
schedule. They might spend a lot of time waiting on set until they are needed for a scene. When
called, they follow the director’s instructions, perform background actions, and ensure they fit
seamlessly into the scene. Extras need to be patient, as the filming process can be slow and
involve multiple takes.

3. Which job would you prefer? Why?

• Dolphin trainer: I would prefer to be a dolphin trainer because I love animals,

especially dolphins. Working closely with such intelligent and playful creatures would be
incredibly rewarding. The opportunity to teach them new tricks, ensure their well-being, and see
them perform would be both exciting and fulfilling. Additionally, the chance to work outdoors in
a marine environment is very appealing to me.

Activity 2: Join another pair

1. Which three jobs in part A would you like to have the most? Why?

• Dolphin trainer: I would love to be a dolphin trainer because I have a strong

passion for animals, especially marine life. Working with dolphins would be incredibly fulfilling
as they are intelligent and sociable creatures. The opportunity to form bonds with them, teach
them new tricks, and ensure their well-being is very appealing. Additionally, the job involves
spending a lot of time outdoors, which I enjoy. The dynamic and interactive nature of the work
keeps things interesting and exciting every day.

• Actor: Being an actor is appealing to me because it offers a creative outlet and the
chance to immerse myself in different characters and stories. Meeting and working with famous
people is an exciting prospect, and the thrill of performing in front of a camera is something I

and entertain people through my performances would be very rewarding.

• Professional athlete: I would love to be a professional athlete because it combines

my passion for sports with the opportunity to stay fit and healthy. The thrill of competition and
achieving athletic goals is incredibly motivating. Although there is a risk of injuries and the need
for constant training, the satisfaction of excelling in a sport and possibly representing my country
on an international level is very appealing. The financial rewards and the chance to inspire others
to pursue an active lifestyle are additional benefits.

2. Which jobs are most popular? Which are least popular?

• Most popular: Based on common preferences, jobs like actor and professional
athlete are often very popular because they come with fame, high income potential, and a
glamorous lifestyle. These jobs offer the chance to be in the public eye and are highly admired
by many people. The excitement and prestige associated with these careers make them highly
sought after.

• Least popular: Jobs like lumberjack and lifeguard might be less popular due to
their physically demanding nature and high levels of responsibility. Lumberjacking, for instance,
involves a lot of manual labor and can be dangerous, which might not appeal to many people.
Lifeguarding, while rewarding in terms of helping others, requires long hours in the sun and
constant vigilance, which can be taxing. The relatively lower prestige and financial rewards
compared to other professions can also contribute to their lower popularity.
3. What’s your ideal job?

• My ideal job is one that allows me to combine my passion for animals with a
dynamic and engaging work environment, which is why I am most interested in being a dolphin
trainer. This job offers the perfect balance of working closely with intelligent and friendly

visitors who come to see them. The sense of accomplishment that comes from training and
