Answer Key

The document presents a classwork assignment focused on waiting line problems, specifically using Poisson distribution for customer arrivals and exponential service times. It includes two problems with calculations related to customer arrival rates, service rates, and various operating characteristics such as average waiting time and utilization rates. The document also contains a simulation table for further analysis of customer service times and completion rates.

CLASSWORK NO 6.

WAITING LINES
NAME Ayson, Khen Andrei P.
Instruction: Read the problem thoroughly and present your solution neatly, write your
final answer on the cell provided. No erasure in any form on your final answer.

Problem 1. Customers arrive at a MRT ticket outlet at the rate of 4 per minute on
Friday mornings. This can be described by a Poisson distribution. Selling the tickets
and providing general information takes an average of 6 minutes per customer, and
varies exponentially. One channel is currently being used but management wants to
know if a second channel should be opened if it wants the average time spent by the
customer in the system to be no more than 7 minutes. Determine the answer by
computing the following operating characteristics. USE 3 DECIMALS FOR FINA

Arrival rate (λ) 6 minutes per costumer Service rate (µ) 4 costumer
per minute

Operating characteristics k=1

1. Probability that there is no

customer? 0.333
2. Average number of
customers in the waiting line? 1.333
3. Average number of 1.666
customers in the system?
4. Ave. time a customer spend 0.277
waiting in line?
5. Ave. time a customer will
spend in the system? 0.212
