Class Notes: Mathematics and Science

Mathematics

1. Algebra

 Key Concepts:
Variables, coefficients, constants, equations.
Example: Solve for x in 2x+3=72x + 3 = 72x+3=7.
o Solution: 2x=7−32x = 7 - 32x=7−3, so x=2x = 2x=2.
 Quadratic Equations:
Standard form is ax2+bx+c=0ax^2 + bx + c = 0ax2+bx+c=0.
Quadratic formula: x=−b±b2−4ac2ax = \frac{-b \pm \sqrt{b^2 - 4ac}}
{2a}x=2a−b±b2−4ac.
Example: Solve x2−5x+6=0x^2 - 5x + 6 = 0x2−5x+6=0.
o Solution: Roots are x=2x = 2x=2 and x=3x = 3x=3.

2. Geometry

 Triangles:
Sum of angles = 180°.
Pythagoras theorem: a2+b2=c2a^2 + b^2 = c^2a2+b2=c2 (right triangles).
 Circles:
Circumference = 2πr2\pi r2πr.
Area = πr2\pi r^2πr2.

3. Statistics

 Mean: Average of numbers.

 Median: Middle value.
 Mode: Most frequent value.

Science

1. Physics

 Newton’s Laws of Motion:

o First Law: A body remains at rest unless acted upon by a force.
o Second Law: F=maF = maF=ma.
o Third Law: For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.
 Work and Energy:
Work = Force × Distance.
Kinetic Energy: KE=12mv2KE = \frac{1}{2}mv^2KE=21mv2.
Potential Energy: PE=mghPE = mghPE=mgh.
2. Chemistry

 Atoms and Molecules: Atoms combine to form molecules. Example: Water

(H2OH_2OH2O).
 Acids and Bases: Acids release H+H^+H+ ions, bases release OH−OH^-OH− ions.

3. Biology

 Human Digestive System:

o Major organs: Mouth, stomach, intestines.
o Function: Digestion and nutrient absorption.
 Photosynthesis: Plants convert sunlight into energy.
Equation: 6CO2+6H2O→C6H12O6+6O26CO_2 + 6H_2O \rightarrow C_6H_{12}O_6
+ 6O_26CO2+6H2O→C6H12O6+6O2.
