Introduction

What is File Server?
• File Server is a server that is responsible for
storing and managing resources for clients for
use in the same network. Therefore, all clients
no longer need to store data on Drive, USB Stick,
or External Hard Disk.
• File Server has another important function by
assigning rights to each client to access data to
use.

File Rights
• The rights to access data or resources is divided
into three different categories:
– Read: have the right to read or view and can
only copy
– Change: have the right to read or view and
edit but can not delete data
– Full Control: has full access to the data, can
be modified or deleted.

Configure File Server

Install File Server Service
• Step 1: Click Manage tools > Add Roles and
Features > Click Next button

• Step 2: Select Role-based or feature-based
Installations > Next > Next

• Step 3: Expand File and Storage Services / File
and iSCSI Services > Select File Server and File
Server Resource Manager > Click Add Features >

• Step 1: Create a Share Folder in any drive
(C:\NewShare) > on Server Manager, Click File
and Storage Services >

• Step 2: Click Shares to view all shares in network >
Click Task > Click New Share

• Step 3: Select SMB Share – Quick > Click Next
button > Select Type a custom path > Click Browse

• Step 4: Select a Share Folder (newshare) >
Click Select Folder > Click Next button

• Step 5: Click next button > Check Enable
access-based enumeration > Click Next button

> Click Close button

\\WSERVER1\newshare and hit Enter key >
You will see the contain of shared folder

Manage Shares
• Step 1: Go to Computer Management > Expand
System Tools / Shared Folders > Select
Shares to view all shares in this network

• Step 3: Select Sessions to view all log on users
in this network
• Step 4: Select Open Files to view all opened
share file in this network

Create File Screen
• Step 1: Click Tools menu > Click File Server
Resource Manager > Expend File Screening
Management > Right click on File Screens > Click
Create Screen

• Step 2: Click Browse > Select a Folder (NewShare)
> Click OK button > Select Derive properties from
this file screen template > Choose Block
Executable Files > Click Create button

• Step 3: On clients PC, open Run and type
\\WSERVER1\newshare and hit Enter key > Now
you can copy several file types into this share folder
except video file types that set by File Screening

Create File Groups Screen
• Step 1: Click Tools menu > Click File Server
Resource Manager > Right click on File Groups >
Choose Create File Group

• Step 2: In File group name, type the name (Video
Files) > In Files to include, type file extension you
want (*.mp4, *.avi) > Click Add button > Click OK >
Right click on File Screen > Create File Screen

• Step 3: Click Browse > Select a Folder (NewShare)
> Click OK button > Select Define custom file
screen properties > Click Custom Properties

• Step 4: Select a custom File Group Screen (Video
Files) > Click OK button > Click Create button >
Select Save the custom file screen without
creating a template > Click OK button

• Step 4: On clients PC, open Run and type
\\WSERVER1\newshare and hit Enter key > Now
you can copy several file types into this share folder
except video file types that set by File Screening
