Introduction

Welcome to Module 8 of the course

In this eighth module, we’ll cover:

• The metaphor, meaning and significance of the ring finger
• How to measure the ring finger’s length
• The significance of a long ring finger
• How to interpret a short ring finger
• The meaning of a bent ring finger
• How to read a wide gap between the ring and middle digits

The metaphor, meaning and interpretation of the ring finger

[Link] digit is given the metaphor of the peacock digit, as it’s an indication of the persona,
the public face, the sense of fun, also artistic, creative and sporting expression. Remember
that this finger sits on the public stage quadrant of the palm, so it is about a response to
the crowd, the group and impersonal correspondences.

[Link] peacock finger is related to all aspects of the drive to display – dressing up, the
development of skills, aesthetics, creativity, sporting prowess, the pursuit of thrills,
excitement and pleasure. It’s also connected with hobbies, culture and need for attention.
The ultimate meaning of this digit is that it’s an elaboration of the display and rutting
instinct in the competition to attract a mate, hence its peacock metaphor.

How to measure the peacock digit

[Link] measure of this finger is to place a straight edge over the tip of this and the mirror
finger and note which is the longer. You have already used this measure when you
checked the mirror digit.

[Link] only slightly longer than the mirror finger (up to 3mm) and if the finger’s straight, this
can be dismissed as average.

[Link] very long in relation to the index digit (more than a centimetre), it’s been linked in
several research papers to sporting prowess, virility, the likelihood of depression, a
tendency for risk taking and heightened spatial awareness, triggered through high
testosterone level exposure in the womb ( Dr John Hammond, Liverpool University
papers). The long peacock is often seen by palmists as a sign of innate talent, as it occurs
in abundance on famous artists, actors, performers and communicators, but it’s more
about the drive to excel, create and respond to artistic stimulation. It doesn’t confer talent
simply by being long. All artistic and sporting skills need to be developed with dedication
and self discipline and this quality may be lacking.

[Link]’s much more common to see this finger extra long on males but it certainly occurs on
female palms as well.

[Link] long, the need for self-expression, social kudos and the sense of drama is strong;
one seeks appreciation, praise, stimulus and the public stage. Without doubt, having this
finger long offers the potential for greater success in initially attracting a mate, one is more
concerned with appearance and standing out, but it’s no guide to long-term relationships.

[Link] ring fingers are found on leaders in the more risky, showy, competitive, bear-pit
professions i.e. the military, sports competitors, film and musical figures, venture
capitalism, politics.

Long ring finger on talentless celebrity, Kim Kardishan

[Link] peacock finger people tend to trust to some extent to luck and can put their private
selves (shown by the mirror digit) to one side. Long index fingers, however, never really
forget themselves; they are unable to hide behind a mask.

[Link] in the public eye, showbiz types, sports people, politicians, artists, anyone with
a reputation, enigmatic leaders, people who dress for effect - all have ring fingers of
exaggerated length. However, they live out their lives in the public sphere and the sheer
willingness to take risks and sense of self abandonment drives success. Such people have
a massive difference between their public performance (long peacock) and private self-
value (short mirror). This explains the tragic personal lives of so many massively popular
showbiz personalities.

Kurt Cobain’s massive ring and tiny index digit

[Link], don’t assume, as many palmists have, that a very long peacock denotes a
massive talent. It only shows a strong drive to compete, excel, to show off by expressing
an aquired ability, and to be in some way ‘on stage’. The skill to manifest any talent still
has to be learned and developed.

[Link], the palm shape and skin will enormously effect the form of expression. On
an earth hand with silk skin, the long peacock might manifest in a mundane way, as a
talented cake maker, or as awards for the best marigolds at the county show. On a water
hand with silk skin, it might find expression as a water colour painter – the long peacock
doesn’t necessarily denote a loud, showy form of expression.

[Link] the ring finger is very long, the index very short, and no skills or abilities to ‘show
off’ are developed; self-destructive behaviour can be present. This is often through forms
of risk taking, be it in gambling, addictive behaviour or dangerous sports. A pathological
need for attention can manifest as a plastic breasted porn star or the recklessly speeding
motorcyclist. All have excessively long ring fingers with a small (and often bent) mirror
finger tucked away. They will deflect self-analysis with humour and self effacement. Very
long ring fingers need recognition and often have lots of natural charisma, love dressing up
and are natural ‘personalities’; but they can be superficial. 'Look at me mummy!’ is the
obvious childhood refrain thronging through adulthood. They are often born of large
families or they had to perform, or play up in some way to get attention as a child.
[Link] at the hands of celebrities: watch their prominent peacock digits endure any
humiliation for publicity, while their diminutive private self of the mirror digit is short, bent or
stunted.

[Link] the peacock is very long it can, with a good self disciplined thumb and a hand
with clear, uncorrupted lines make a Leonardo Da Vinci or a Raphael (both had long
peacock digits) and always shows a deep drive to express a talent, so always encourage a
person with this digit long to develop latent creative, expressive, or sporting drives.

A short peacock finger

[Link] the mirror digit is long, the peacock is always of course relatively short. When there is
a very long mirror and relatively short peacock, the sense of one’s own values, personal
pride and principles eclipses any sense of performing for others in any reckless, crowd-
driven or superficial way. This can mean the desperate arena of competitive arts are
shunned for a more principled realm. Short peacock people often express themselves
artistically with themselves (the mirror) at the centre – singer songwriters, writers that base
their novels on their own experiences, painters that articulate their life journey visually. The
long mirror and short peacock person, if in the creative realm, very, very often ends up as
the director, producer, teacher or boss, keeping the more wayward long peacock fingers in
check.

How to read a bent peacock finger

[Link] this digit bends, it’s always towards the middle finger. This means the sense of
creative expression and pleasure is inhibited by the serious concerns of duty, work and
family. A certain martyrdom is evident; this is someone who can allow an oppressive sense
of obligation and duty to inhibit their need for drama, escape and fun.

A bent peacock finger

How to read a peacock digit that stands away from the wall digit

[Link], the peacock naturally stands apart from the wall digit, so there’s a sort
of ‘V’ shaped space between them. This is quite rare, and indicates that creative
expression is independent of convention; it’s the sign of a someone that loves to shock
and challenge.
Controversial performer, Marilyn Manson naturally has a gap between wall and
peacock fingers
