Reflection Assignment HR

At the beginning of the semester, I wanted to learn about how to better manage employees in a

management role using HR techniques. I want to learn to use HRM to ensure my safety and

success in the workplace. I was excited to learn techniques and theories. I expected to discover

things I could apply in a real-life work environment. Now that the course is over, I can reflect on

these goals and what I have learned in B3325.

Initial Expectations vs. Course Outcomes

Initially, I anticipated gaining skills and knowledge that I could apply directly to a real-world

work environment. This aligned directly with the course objectives. Throughout

the course, I was introduced to different HRM theories and techniques that exceeded my

expectations. These included things like Job analysis, Recruitment, compensation, training and

the law. By comparing my expectations or the actual outcomes, I can see the depth of knowledge

I have gained and the relevance of the course to my future career.

Key takeaways

1. Training and development

One takeaway was the importance of training and development. The course taught us about

training programs, such as in-house and external training, and how to align these programs with

organizational goals. For instance, we learned how to implement onboarding programs and

continuous learning opportunities to enhance employee capabilities and retention. This insight

will help me create a motivated and skilled workforce for my future career.

2. Job Analysis and design

Another takeaway is the importance of job analysis and design. We learned how it clarifies

organizational roles and responsibilities, helps create accurate job descriptions, and creates

efficient workflows. This will allow me to develop organizational efficiency in the future. I can

now redesign roles and improve employee satisfaction, a skill essential for a career in

management.

3. Performance Management

Thirdly, I learned about designing and using a performance management system. I also learned

the importance of feedback and appraisal methods, such as behaviour-based assessments and
360-degree feedback, to evaluate performance. These tools give constructive feedback, helping

with continuous improvement.

Each of these takeaways aligns with my future career goals. I want to be in a management

position, so understanding training and development, job design, and performance management

systems will help me be effective as a leader. These skills contribute to an organization's success,

so by applying these skills, I can be successful in any organization I end up in.

Personal Growth

This course helped me grow personally. Initially, I just wanted technical knowledge, but I've now

come to appreciate the importance of interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence. This course

motivated me to keep looking for growth opportunities and to pursue more growth and

development.

In conclusion, this course has been an excellent experience. It exceeded all my expectations. The

insights I have gained will shape my approaches to management and HR in my future career.

I look forward to applying these lessons learned soon.
