Article 83 of the Constitution of India
requires elections to the Lok Sabha to be
held once every ve years.
The 104th amendment to the constitution
abolished the two seats that were
reserved for the Anglo-Indian community.
Ÿ Constitution provides for the reservation of seats
for SCs & STs in the Lok Sabha on the basis of
population ratio.
Ÿ Extended by 104th CA Act 2020 till 25th January,
2030 (which was expiring in 2020).

Ÿ Out of the 1.4 billion population, 968 million
(96.8 crore) people were eligible to vote in
the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, which is about
70% of the total, population.
Ÿ Of these, 64.2 crore (642 million) voters
participated in the elections, of which 31.2
crore (312 million) were women.
Ÿ This has been the election with the highest
participation of women.
