world-view and its historiography. DAV College (Lahore), Ambala City, has a sacrosanct and
hallowed history dating back to 1886 when it was established at Lahore with Mahatma Hans Raj as
its honorary Principal. The year 1886 proved a watershed year as the institutionalization of college
education in India by the DAVs had a historically significant ripple-effect which ultimately led to the
birth and growth of a long chain of centres of higher education in India. Mahatma Hans Raj served
this institution with humility, dedication and a missionary spirit. This DAV College in particular is a

Principal Mela Ram Barq and Late Dr. Ganesh Das Atreja who were inspired by the philosophy and
lofty ideals of “Yug Parvartak” Maharishi Dayanand Saraswati. The college was established in 1968
and was handed over to D.A.V. Managing Committee Chitragupta Road, New Delhi in 1986. We
now form a part of a large D.A.V. family of which Shri Punam Suri is the President and Sh. Ajay
Suri is the General Secretary. This institute is one of the oldest colleges of teacher education for
women in Haryana. It is now a post graduate college of education, having B.Ed. and M.Ed. courses
affiliated to Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra. The College has the credit of being approved and
recognised by the National Council for Teacher Education (N.C.T.E.) and NAAC has awarded B
grade with 88% marks. It caters to the needs of women teacher education from Urban and Rural

Kumari Vidyavati Anand D.A.V. College for Women, Karnal is a premier institution of Haryana
with the distinction of being the first women’s College in the State. Inspired by Swami Dayanand
Saraswati’s vision of the potential in women and the need to educate and empower them this College
was established in 1957 (by a group of Arya Samajis led by Lal Makhan Lal ji, Dr Ganesh Das ji and
Principal Mela Ram Ji Barq) with only hundred students, 4 lecturers and 4 members of non-teaching.
Now it has strength of about 1805 students, 93 lecturers and 37 members of non- teaching staff.
After 29 years of its inception, the management of the College was handed over to DAV College
Managing Committee, New Delhi which is the biggest, non-government educational society in India
running about 900 institutes across all parts of India and abroad. The name of Kumari Vidyavati
Anand was prefixed in 1997 to this institute in honour of her selfless and magnanimous service in the
field of education. Over the years, the College has grown into a renowned and acknowledged
institute of the area, serving the cause of value based higher education.

It has been declared a “Model College” and “Pace setting Women’s College” by National Institute of
Education, Planning and Administration in 1992.

campus spread over 2.4 acres, the college has a two and three storeyed building consisting of 50

offer various graduate courses like B.A. with options ( Political Science, History, Economics,

Starting with just 272 students in the faculties of Art, Commerce at the undergraduate level, the
College has now as many as 2300 students (including 900 girls) on its roll in various faculties at
Undergraduate and Postgraduate levels. Students are admitted on the basis of their academic records
following the reservation policy of the State Government. After admission, through class tests, house
examinations, tutorial assignments and talent search programmes, the students’ skills are tested.

Unitized Syllabus is covered in full according to a planned teaching schedule. Teaching techniques

7. Dayanand Postgraduate College, Hisar (Haryana)

Dayanand College, Hisar is 74 years old, Re-accredited as A++ grade institution by NAAC,
Bengaluru in June, 2024. The temple of learning is a nursery of higher education. The college owes
its existence to the vision and missionary zeal of Lala Gian Chand Mahajan (later venerated as
Swami Munishwaranand) who was a teacher by profession, a social crusader by inclination, and a
saint by temperament. Swamiji was helped in his crusade by a galaxy of philanthropists and
missionaries. The college is a multi-faculty, co-educational government-aided institution affiliated to
Guru Jambheshwar University of Science & Technology, Hisar. Founded in the historical city of
Hisar in 1950, the college was taken over by the DAV College Managing Committee, New Delhi in
1962.
The emergence of this seat of learning marked a new era in this educationally and culturally obscure
land even after independence. It was a dust bowl, a dry, dreary and dismal darkness. The opening of

Kaithal road. Ch. Bansi Lal, the then Chief Minister, Haryana laid down the foundation stone of this
college. Late Sh. B.R. Goyal, Ex-P.S. to State Health Minister, Govt. of India, New Delhi was the
moving spirit behind the idea of its starting and growth. Late Ch. Ishwar Singh, Ex-Speaker, Haryana

of Haryana had to go to South India for studying dental courses. Particularly the parents of girl-

Dental College at Yamuna Nagar. He acceded to their request. He established D.A.V. Dental
College, which is the first private Dental College of Northern India as well as first post-graduate
Dental College of Haryana also. He was the sole guiding spirit behind the setting up of D.A.V.
Centenary Dental College at Yamuna Nagar by seeking help from NRI philanthropists, which were

Maharishi Dayanand Saraswati, an eminent citizen and social worker of Kosli area, late Sh. Rao Ram
Narain (Ex-Minister), undertook this project under the banner of Garmin Kshetriya education
Society, Kosli. The society acquired 17 acres of land put up a magnificent building for the college.
There upon DAV CMC was invited by Shri Rao Ram Narain to run the institution and DAV CMC is
