TITLE OF THE SEMINAR: The Legal Pulse of E-Commerce: Explore the challenges and

opportunities in regulating the rapidly growing e-commerce industry.

OBJECTIVES OF THE SEMINAR: With the advent of globalization, Nepal has seen a robust growth in e-commerce

and information technology (IT) services in the last decade. In the last couple of years alone there has been a

boom in online businesses and a rise in digital entrepreneurs. While e-commerce is in its infancy in Nepal, it is

growing quickly. This growth demonstrates the need of initiation nationally with regards to awareness and

education. This event initiated by ALSA Nepal will play pivotal role in shaping legal minds with this alarming

growth in this sector. The key objectives are highlighted below:

 The seminar can equip businesses with the knowledge and insights necessary to navigate the legal

complexities of operating in the e-commerce space. This can foster innovation, growth, and

competitiveness within the Nepalese e-commerce sector.

 By raising awareness about consumer rights and responsibilities in online transactions, the seminar can

empower consumers and enhance their trust in e-commerce.


 The seminar can contribute to increasing digital literacy among the Nepalese population, which is

essential for the successful adoption of e-commerce.

 The seminar allows for comprehensive coverage of different aspects of e-commerce law, ensuring deep

understanding rather than surface-level knowledge.

 The seminar can help prepare future lawyers for emerging legal challenges in the digital economy,

making them more competent to handle e-commerce related cases.

 It promotes awareness of consumer protection issues in online transactions, which is crucial as more

Nepali citizens engage in e-commerce.

 The seminar can help identify regulatory gaps in Nepal's current e-commerce laws by bringing together
different perspectives from students and professionals.

TARGET AUDIENCE:

Primary audience: 50+ law students (+2, undergraduates and graduates) from Pokhara belonging to

Tribhuvan University, Purbanchal University and Gandaki University.

Secondary audience: The existing e-commerce business owners in Pokhara.

BENEFITS OF THE SEMINAR:

 Proper knowledge on e-commerce sector and legal scope that enables the law students to understand

the legal status as well as enables actual business owners to carry out business locally or nationally

remaining within the parameters of law.

 Awareness and reach of the subject matter to the audience out of valley.

 Fosters robust e-commerce security.


 Establishes a platform that connects legal minds from capital with audience at Pokhara.

 Strengthens partnership and co-operation between ALSA and BRU/Pioneer Law Associates.

ORGANIZERS BIO: Asian Law Students’ Association (ALSA) is a non-profit, non-political organization that

aims to connects law students from the corners of Asia. As an organization that includes 17 national chapters,

ALSA has been a melting pot for various culture throughout Asia since its founding over 30 years ago. With the

sheer number of national chapters that joined ALSA, the organization has connected around 12.000 students

Asia-wide.

ALSA Nepal has been recognized as national chapter recently and we serve as a platform, primarily for Nepal’s

law students to share the ideals of law and develop a creative and cohesive spirit within the network.

The key visions of ALSA Nepal entails: focusing on a global vision on the promising future of Nepal,

promoting an awareness of justice and the rule of law across Nepal, and facilitating the recognition of social

responsibilities amongst law students in Nepal.

BRU’S BIO: Bharat Raj Upreti Memorial Foundation (the “BRU Foundation”) was founded in 2015 in the

loving memory of late Mr. Bharat Raj Upreti, founding member of Pioneer Law, senior advocate and ex-justice

of Supreme Court of Nepal. Late Upreti is remembered for his excellent practice in commercial laws in Nepal.

It was Mr. Bharat Raj Upreti who took Pioneer Law to its present height and recognition. BRU Foundation aims

to play an instrumental role in the field of – (1) legal profession, (2) legal education, and (3) independence of

Nepalese judiciary, through research, publication, capacity building, policy dialogue and reform intervention.
CONCLUSION: The one-day seminar “The Legal Pulse of E-Commerce: Explore the challenges and

opportunities in regulating the rapidly growing e-commerce industry” is more than just an academic event; it

bridges capital’s knowledge with the legal community in Pokhara. Pioneer’s assistance to us as a resource

person will extend substantial exposure to us and more importantly to the subject itself among a dynamic and

committed audience. We eagerly anticipate forging a partnership that promises benefit and success.
