4- DTP

Key Points:
 DTP stand for Dynamic trunking protocol.
 Cisco proprietary protocol that allow cisco switches to negotiate trunk dynamically.
 Or a protocol uses to negotiate trunking between switch ports on either link end of link.

Types of Switchport:

Dynamic Modes:
1. Desirable: Negotiate to its connected switch. (call the neighbor).
2. Auto: Listen to negotiation. (waiting for negotiation.)

Note:
 If one side of link is Dynamic Desirable and other side is Dynamic auto the result will be
Trunk.
 If one side is Dynamic desirable and other side is also Dynamic desirable the result will
be Trunk.
 If one side of link is Dynamic auto and other side is Dynamic desirable the result will be
Trunk.
 If one side is Dynamic auto and other side is also Dynamic auto the result will be Access.
Topology:

DTP Configuration:
 Switch(cofig-if)# switchport mode dynamic <auto|Desirable>
Verification
 Switch# show interface trunk.
