4- DTP
Key Points:
DTP stand for Dynamic trunking protocol.
Cisco proprietary protocol that allow cisco switches to negotiate trunk dynamically.
Or a protocol uses to negotiate trunking between switch ports on either link end of link.
Types of Switchport:
Dynamic Modes:
1. Desirable: Negotiate to its connected switch. (call the neighbor).
2. Auto: Listen to negotiation. (waiting for negotiation.)
Note:
If one side of link is Dynamic Desirable and other side is Dynamic auto the result will be
Trunk.
If one side is Dynamic desirable and other side is also Dynamic desirable the result will
be Trunk.
If one side of link is Dynamic auto and other side is Dynamic desirable the result will be
Trunk.
If one side is Dynamic auto and other side is also Dynamic auto the result will be Access.
Topology:
DTP Configuration:
Switch(cofig-if)# switchport mode dynamic <auto|Desirable>
Verification
Switch# show interface trunk.
