How to use Bitbox with GPEC2, 2A and 3
Installation:
1. Install drivers for J2534 tactrix adapter - openport2_setup.
2. Install driver for red/white usb security dongle - folder elite4_drivers, exe file inside.
3. Install Bitbox software - Setup bitbox.
Plug USB dongle and Tactrix J2534 interface into USB ports of PC.
Start BitBox software. To work with Bitbox PC must have internet connection!
During the start software will check for updates and presence of USB security dongle.
Go to settings and select tactrix openport 2.0 under devices dropdown menu. Apply.
Connect Chrysler GPEC unit according to pictures and pinout or use off board harness.
Make an adapter between OBDII connector of Tactrix J2534, power supply and pins to connect to ECU.
Tactrix must receive constant battery power of 12 volts on pin 16(battery) as it is in a vehicle (with pins 4
& 5 ground). ECU power must turn on and off with the switch during the programming process.
ECU pinout for GPEC2, 2A and 3:
C1-23 +12V Ignition, C1-96 +12V Ignition, C1-33 CAN-L (OBD 14), C1-57 CAN-H (OBD 6), C1-72 GND (OBD
4&5).
Always grey connector on GPEC2 and GPEC2A. Green connector on GPEC 3.
Connect termination resistor of 100-120 ohms between CAN lines. It is needed for communication if
internal resistor missing in ecu. It will still be OK if internal termination is present.
In Bitbox click select vehicle/ECU, type gpec in search – all gpec available will be displayed. Select FID 20
for gpec2, for example. FID 20 works fine on pre 2013 GPEC2 as well – tested 2011 patriot and others.
If FID 20 doesn’t work, try 21. Usually, Bitbox advises what should be used if the wrong FID was used.
Click Identify, Turn ON ignition power to ECU and click OK.
Calibration number and VIN will be displayed on the screen. Turn OFF ignition.
Click Read EEPROM. Turn ON the ignition and click OK. Save EEPROM file on your local drive.
Open file in any binary editor, Winhex for example.
Modify location 0011hex to 00 instead 80. Save the file. 00 means Skim not present.
Go back to Bitbox. Click Write EEPROM select just saved modified file, turn ignition ON and click OK.
When finished, turn off the ignition and disconnect unit. Immobilizer must be disabled.
If EEPROM after first reading has 00 or 02 in that location it normally means immobilizer already disabled
or was not present initially.
Same process works for GPEC2A and GPEC3 (any gpec so far) – just proper FID must be selected
according to type of unit and vehicle.
FIDs 219, 320, 321 used for special internal on PCB boot mode connections and not used for this purpose
at this moment.
