LISTENING TEXT

"The Legend of the Pineapple"

Once upon a time, in a small village in the Philippines, there was a young girl named Pina.
Pina was an only child, and her mother loved her dearly. However, Pina was very lazy and
never helped her mother with any chores around the house. Whenever her mother asked her
to do something, Pina would always make an excuse or simply pretend not to hear.

One day, Pina's mother fell ill and was unable to do the housework. She called out to Pina,
"Pina, could you please get me some water from the well?"

But Pina, lying comfortably in her bed, replied, "I can't find the bucket, Mother."

Her mother, feeling weak, asked again, "Pina, please find it. I really need some water."

But Pina just sighed and said, "I don't know where it is. Maybe you should look for it yourself."

Pina's mother, disappointed by her daughter's laziness, wished out loud, "Oh, how I wish you
had a thousand eyes so you could find things on your own!"

Suddenly, Pina felt strange. She touched her face and realized that her mother’s wish was
coming true—her face was covered with tiny eyes! Terrified, Pina ran out of the house, but
soon she turned into a fruit with many eyes—a pineapple.

From that day on, the fruit with many eyes was known as "Pinya" in honor of Pina, and it
became a reminder to children to always obey their parents and not be lazy.
