SECTION 2: HAZARD IDENTIFICATION


CLP: F+ – Extremely flammable;

Adverse environmental effects Not classified as dangerous. The product evaporates readily.
Adverse physical-chemical effects The gas is heavier than air and may travel along the ground; distant ignition
possible and may accumulate in low ceiling spaces causing deficiency of
oxygen. Risk of explosion if heated. Vapours may form explosive mixtures
with air. High risk of fire in case of leakage.
Signs and Symptoms of Acute Exposure
Skin Vapours are not irritating. Direct contact to skin with liquefied product or cold vapour may cause freeze
burns and frostbite. Product does not penetrate through the skin
Inhalation This product is mildly asphyxiate gas that can cause unconsciousness/death if OXYGEN level is
sufficiently reduced. Inhalation of high concentrations may cause central nervous system depression such
as dizziness, drowsiness, headache, and similar narcotic symptoms, nausea and loss of coordination and
in extreme conditions coma and possibly death. High concentrations may trigger heartbeat irregularities
and possible cardiac sensitization
Eyes Vapours are not irritating. Contact with liquid or cold vapour may cause frostbite, freeze burns and
permanent eye damage.
Ingestion Ingestion is unlikely. Contact with liquefied product may cause frostbite and freeze burns

SECTION 4: FIRST AID MEASURES


General DANGER! EXTREMELY FLAMMABLE LIQUEFIED GAS! This product does not contain
oxygen and may cause asphyxia if released in a confined area. Simple hydrocarbons can cause
irritation and central nervous system depression at high concentrations. May cause dizziness
and drowsiness. Can form explosive mixtures with air. May cause frostbite. Can cause rapid
suffocation. Rescue workers may require self-contained breathing apparatus. Extremely
flammable. Prompt medical attention is mandatory in all cases of overexposure to propylene.
Rescue personnel should be equipped with self-contained breathing apparatus and be cognizant
of extreme fire and explosion hazard.
Inhalation Move affected individual to non-contaminated air. Loosen tight clothing such as a collar, tie,
belt or waistband to facilitate breathing. Seek immediate medical attention if the individual is
not breathing, is unconscious or if any other symptoms persist. WARNING: Contact through
mouth-to-mouth resuscitation may pose a secondary risk to the rescuer. Avoid mouth-to-mouth
contact by using a mouth shield or guard to perform artificial respiration..

Skin For skin contact, wash immediately with soap and water. DO NOT USE HOT WATER. Seek
medical attention if symptoms develop or persist. Thaw frostbite slowly with lukewarm water. DO
NOT RUB affected area. Do not pull off adherent clothing or objects. Seek medical attention at
once.
Eyes If can be done safely remove contact lenses. Immediately flush eyes with cold water for at least
15 minutes, while holding eyelids open. DO NOT USE HOT WATER. Seek medical attention if
symptoms develop or persist.
Ingestion Not probable
Note to Physician Treat unconsciousness, frostbite, nausea, hypotension, seizures and cardiac arrhythmia in the
conventional manner. Administer oxygen by mask if there is respiratory distress. Treatment of
overexposure should be direct at controlling the symptoms and clinical condition of a patient.
After adequate first aid, no further treatment is necessary unless symptoms reappear.

SECTION 5: FIRE FIGHTING MEASURES


Flammable Properties Extremely flammable, gas/air mixtures are explosive. High risk of fire in case of
leakage.
Extinguishing Media Dry chemical, foam, carbon dioxide, and water fog. Do not use water jets. Foam
cover may help suppress evolution of flammable gas. Use massive quantities of
water to cool fire-exposed containers and to protect personnel. Do not attempt to
extinguish a leaking gas fire unless leak source can be isolated and shut off. Let
uncontrolled fires burn off.
Extinguishing Media (which shall DO NOT ATTEMPT TO EXTINGUISH A LEAKING GAS FIRE UNLESS
not be used for safety reasons) LEAK SOURCE CAN BE ISOLATED AND SHUT OFF. Monitor water run-off
for flammability, and prevent from entering drains and sewers, or other confined
or underground spaces.
Hazardous Combustion Products Upon decomposition, this product emits carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, and/or
low molecular weight hydrocarbons
Protective Equipment/Clothing Full-face self-contained breathing apparatus, thermal protective clothing.
Fire Fighting Guidance Keep unnecessary personnel away. Move containers from fire area if you can do
so without risk. Fight fire from maximum distance, use unmanned holders, or
monitor nozzles. Immediately withdraw in case of fire and container venting or
heat discoloration of a container. Fire fighters should wear full-face, self-
contained breathing apparatus and thermal protective clothing. Avoid inhaling
any smoke and combustion materials. Remove and clean or destroy any
contaminated clothing. Cool containers with flooding quantities of water until well
after the fire is out. Control runoff waters to prevent entry into sewers, drains,
underground or confined spaces and waterways.

SECTION 7: HANDLING AND STORAGE


Handling Keep locked up or secured. This material can be stored as a flammable gas or liquid depending on the
temperature and pressure. Handle in fully enclosed, grounded, properly designed and approved transfer
and storage systems. Use with adequate ventilation. Avoid inhalation. Keep away from uncontrolled
heat and incompatible materials. Ground all handling and transfer equipment to dissipate build-up of
static electricity. Wear suitable protective equipment including thermally protective gloves. No
smoking or open flames permitted in storage, use or handling areas. If used in refrigeration, check
drains are they not plugged and valves are working and not plugged by ice formed from the vaporizing
liquid.
Storage Storage area should be clearly identify, well illuminated, clear of obstruction and accessible only to
trained and authorized personnel. Store in grounded, properly designed and approved pressure
containers and away from incompatible materials. Store and use away from heat, sparks, open flame, or
any other ignition source. Store according to applicable codes or regulations for liquefied pressurized
gases as applicable to: cylinders, vessels, piping, buildings, rooms, cabinets, allowable quantities and
minimum storage distances. Have appropriate extinguishing capability in storage area (e.g. sprinkler
system, portable fire extinguishers) and flammable gas detectors. Storage pressure vessels should be
above ground and dike. Keep cylinders secure while in storage or in transportation.

propylene and production of polypropylene, propylene copolymers, chemical synthesis etc. Handling
with materila according to Section 7 part Handling.

SECTION 8: EXPOSURE CONTROLS AND PERSONAL PROTECTION


ACGIH exposure limit lists have been checked for major components listed with CAS registry numbers. Other exposure
limits may apply, check with proper authorities.

Engineering methods include mechanical ventilation (dilution and local exhaust) process or personal enclosure, remote and
automated operation, control of process conditions, leak detection and repair systems, and other process modifications.
Ensure all exhaust ventilation systems are discharge to outdoors, away from air intakes and ignition sources. Supply
sufficient replacement air to make up for air removed by exhaust systems. Administrative (procedure) controls and use of
personal protective equipment may also be required.
Personal protective equipment should not be considered a long-term solution to exposure control. Persons in ill health
where such illness would be aggravated by exposure to product should not be allowed to work with or handle this product
Inhalation If engineering controls and ventilation is not sufficient to prevent build-up of aerosols or vapours
and/or oxygen concentrations are low, appropriate air supplied breathing apparatus should be use.
Hand Use impervious gloves designed to prevent freezing of body tissues if contact with liquefied gas is
possible. Wear chemical-resistant safety footwear with good traction to prevent slipping.
Eyes Wear safety glasses. Use of chemical goggles under a full-face shield is recommended if contact
with liquefied vapour is possible.
Skin Work clothing that sufficiently prevents skin contact and prevents freezing of body tissues if
contact with liquefied gas is possible should been worn, such as coveralls and/or long sleeves and
pants. Fire resistant (i.e., Nomex) or natural fibber clothing (i.e., cotton or wool) is recommended.
Synthetic clothing can generate static electricity and would not recommend where flammable
vapour releases may occur.
Environmental Environmental exposure controls should be in accordance with applicable regional, national, and
exposure controls local laws and regulations.

SECTION 10: STABILITY AND REACTIVITY


Chemical Stability This product is stable under normal use conditions for shock, vibration, pressure, or
temperature. Unstable at high temperature/pressure
Conditions to Avoid Keep away from heat, sparks, or open flame.
Substances to Avoid Nitrates, per chlorates, nitrogen oxides including nitrogen dioxide, nitrous oxide
and nitrogen tertoxide. Many materials become brittle after contact with liquefied
gases, and may fail without warning. Carefully select and test equipment, gaskets,
and hoses periodically to ensure integrity and compatibility.
Decomposition Products Upon decomposition, this product emits carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide and/or
low molecular weight hydrocarbons.
Hazardous Polymerization Hazardous polymerization can occur at elevated temperature and pressure in the
presence of a catalyst
Reactions with Air and Water Vapours may form an explosive mixture with air. May polymerize explosively
when heated or involved in a fire. May react vigorously with oxidizing agents.
Liquefied gas may explode on contact with hot water (45°C - 75°C).
Advice to prevent explosion Keep away from heat, sparks and open flame.

SECTION 11: TOXICOLOGICAL INFORMATION


Acute Toxicity
Inhalation of propylene can produce narcosis and anaesthesia; however, these effects are only seen at very high
concentrations (reports indicate 688.000 mg/m3 to induce narcosis in humans). Excessive exposures may cause headache,
dizziness, nausea, loss of coordination, and in extreme conditions coma and possibly death. High concentrations may
trigger heartbeat irregularities and possible cardiac sensitization. In the gaseous state propylene was NOT been expected to
be irritating to the skin or eyes. However, should skin or eye contact occur with this product in its liquid state, tissue
freezing, severe cold burn, and/or frostbite may result.

Repeated Dose Toxicity
Repeated exposure to propylene produces no clinical effects in animals exposed to concentrations up to 10,000 ppm, one-
half of the lower flammability limit for 103 weeks (6 hours per day, 5 days per week). In the nasal cavity, propylene
induced nasal lesions of relatively mild nature and relatively few animals was been affected.

Special Remarks on Other Toxic Effects on Humans
Propylene that is inhaling was been largely exhaled unchanged. A small fraction may be metabolize and transport in blood
as propylene oxide. There is no known health effect found to be associated with this metabolism in 2-year cancer studies
or in studies of potential adverse genetic effects.

Persistence and Degradability
Air This material evaporates rapidly into the atmosphere. In the air these product have the potential to
degrade rapidly through indirect photolytic processes mediated primarily by hydroxyl radicals. This is
expecting to be the dominant route of loss and degradation process. Photo-oxidation half lives is 14.6
hours (hydroxyl radicals) and 23.7 hours (ozone).
Soil Bacteria from soil can degrade it.
Water Bacteria from surface water can degrade it. Aqueous photolysis and hydrolysis will not contribute to
the transformation in aquatic environments because they are either poorly or not susceptible to these
reactions.
Bioaccumulation Biodegradation of this product may occur in soil and water. Volatilization is expecting to be the most
important removal process in soil and water.
Biodegradation Product is not expected to bio accumulate. This product does not concentrate or accumulate in the
food chain.
Environmental Liquid release had only expected to cause localized, non-persistent environmental damage, such as
adverse effects freezing. This product has not considered harmful to aquatic life, and has limited absorption into soil
and sediment.

SECTION 13: DISPOSAL CONSIDERATIONS


Waste disposal
The use, mixing or processing of this product may alter this product. Since emptied containers retain product/material
residue, follow safe handling/label warnings even after container was been emptied.
DO NOT ATTEMPT TO DISPOSE OF BY UNCONTROLLED IGNITION.
It is the responsibility of the waste generator to determine the toxicity and physical properties of the material generated
to determine the proper waste classification and disposal methods in compliance with applicable regulations. Disposal
should be in accordance with applicable regional, national, and local laws and regulations

advice and environmental protection principles related to the product and first aid principles.
