English
Spellings to be learnt for a test on Monday.
Spelling rule = ‘able’ and ‘ible’
Sometimes words ending in ‘-able’ and ‘-ible’ sound similar, but are spelt
differently e.g. dependable and incredible.
The ‘-able’ ending is usually used when a complete root word can be
heard before it e.g. reliable. In ‘reliable’, you can hear the complete root
word ‘rely’.
The ‘-ible’ ending is usually used when a complete root word can’t be
heard before it e.g. visible. In ‘visible, ‘vis’ is not a complete root word.
