Reading and Writing

Part 3
For each question, choose the correct answer.

Rafiah Sharma – teenage actor

15-year-old Rafiah Sharma has acted in 12 Bollywood movies – films

about India where the actors speak an Indian language called Hindi

People think it’s amazing that I have time to be an actor as well as a student, but actually, it’s not that difficult. Many
adults say young people should just do their school work and pass their exams, but I think it’s important to get some
work experience too. I mean, I’ll have to get a job when I leave school, so why not earn some money before then?

I act in Indian movies known as ‘Bollywood’ movies. They’re all made in England, but everyone in the movies is Indian.
I was only eight when I got my first small part in a Bollywood film, and I only had to say a few words. Since then, I‘ve had
bigger parts, and now I spend weeks and weeks trying to remember all my lines.

My parents are awesome! They drive me to my classmates’ houses, as well as the studios, and pick me up when I finish
filming. And they don’t even ask me to tidy my room. They think I’m good at acting and hope I’ll be famous one day. But in
case that doesn’t happen, they don’t want me to stop studying when I’m 18.

My next movie is called Mumbai Moon. In this film, I’ll be a teenage girl who wins a dance competition and the prize is a
holiday. She doesn’t want anyone to know about the competition, so she can’t practise at home. She dances in the sports
hall after school with her partner. I hope everyone will love watching it!

1 What do we learn about Rafiah in the first paragraph?

A She believes that it’s good to do some work while she’s a student.
B She thinks it’s hard for students to find jobs while they’re still at school.
C She says it’s easy to get good grades at school.

2 What does Rafiah say about the movies she now acts in?
A She works with both English and Indian actors.
B She needs plenty of time to learn all her lines.
C She had a lot to do in her first movie.

3 Rafiah says that her parents

A would prefer her to study at university.
B are pleased with what she has done until now.
C want her to spend more time with her friends.

4 In Mumbai Moon, Rafiah will

A travel around the world.
B do some dances.
C play a sports star.

5 What is the writer doing in this text?

A giving advice to teenagers who want to become actors
B describing the famous actors she works with
C talking about her life as a young actor
