ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
Our project can never begin without you, dear
GOD. Rather than saying “thank you” to you, you
know that we feel like saying ‘I love you’, to you,
always. We must say thanks to our parents who
provided us with sufficient money and help in
making this project. Classmates are the real
foundation of the project done by us. Thank you
very much.

Special thanks to our Principal, our Vice Principal

and our chemistry teachers, who gave support to
us and the library which provides all useful books
related to this project.

Next on our thank list are our friends, teachers

who really showered constructive feedback and
suggestions without which this project would not
have been in present form.

Introduction:

Capacitance

A capacitor is a device that stores electrical energy in an

electric field. It is a passive electronic component with
two terminals. The effect of a capacitor is known as
capacitance.
Formula:

q = CV

q = charge
C = capacitance
V = voltage

5
Aim:

To show the charging and discharging of a capacitor

Materials Required:

1. 1000µF capacitor

2. 2 KΩ resistors

3. Two Switches

4. Two LEDs

5. 9V battery

6. Connecting wires

6
Theory:

If we connect a battery across the two plates of the

capacitor, the work is done (or energy is supplied) by
the battery in charging the capacitor. Ast the capacitor
charges, potential difference across its plates increases.
More and more work has to be done by the battery in
delivering the same amount to the capacitor due to
continuously increasing potential difference across its
plates
The work done in charging a capacitor is stored in the
capacitor form of electric energy
The energy stored in a charged capacitor resides inside
it in the form of electric field

7
Explaination Of Model:

As you see it the model, initially S-2 is closed and

capacitor is uncharged

On closing S-2, LED-1 glows slowly instantaneously

but LED-2 glows slowly as S-2 is connected in parallel
with the capacitor, as charge gets stored in capacitor, it
generates potential difference across LED-2 and it
glows.

Now when LED-1 and LED-2 are glowing and

capacitor is slightly charged. By closing S-2 you will
observe that LED-1 becomes brighter and gers dim as
charge stored on capacitor.

Now open switch S-1, and when you switch on S-2

whole charge contained in capacitor gets released on
LED-2 glows within a blink and gets progressively
dimmer.

8
Observation:

Here, we observe that this capacitor gets

charged and discharges its stored charges to the LED-2

Conclusion:

We can conclude here that the capacitor has the ability

to store
charges given to it, which is also called as its
capacitance

9
Precautions:

• All connections should be neat and clean.

• The wire should not make a loop.

• Key should be used in circuit

• Make sure all connections are tight
