INTRODUCTION:
Nursing ,a profession is the art of caring sick people with the science of health care.It is the
vital component of any form of medical care.In a hospital from a general ward to the
operation theatre ,nursing forms an integral part.
TERMINOLOGIES:
NURSING:
Florence Nightingale define nursing “The act of utilizing the environment of the patient to
assist him in his recovery.”
EDUCATION:
Education is the process of living through a continuous reconstruction of experience .It is
the development of all those capacities in the individual which will enable him to control his
environment and fulfil his possibilities.

NURSING EDUCATION:
Nursing education is the professional education for the preparation of nurses to enable
them to render professional nursing care to people of all ages, in all phases of health and
illness, in a variety of settings.
PROFESSION:
The professional nursing practice is a nursing, as an integral part of the health care system,
encompasses the promotion of health, prevention of illness, and care of physically ill,
mentally ill and disabled people of all ages, in all health care and other community settings.
PHILOSOPHY:
Philosophy of nursing states our thoughts on what we believe to be true about the nature
of the profession of nursing and provide a basis for nursing activities.
NURSING PROGRAM:
Nursing program means a program for the training of individuals to become registered
nurses or licensed practical nurses operated in this state by an eligible institution.
NURSING EDUCATION PROGRAMS:
It may be defined as in large part that influencing of one group of human beings, the pupils
to grow towards defined objectives; utilizing a second group of human beings, the teacher
as agents and operating in a setting of third group of human beings, the public variously
concerned both with objectives and means used to achieve them.

1. ANM (AUXILIARY NURSE AND MIDWIFER):
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:
The minimum age for admission shall be 17 years on or before 31st December of the
year in which admission is sought.
The maximum age for admission shall be 35 years.
The minimum educational requirements shall be 10+2 in arts and English elective or
Health care science passing out from recognized board.
Student shall be medically fit.
Student shall be admitted once a year.

2. GNM(General Nursing Midwifery)
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:
Age limit is 17 years with maximum 30 years.
+2 passed with Physics,chemistry and biology.
This course is for both males and females.
At least 40% of aggregate marks needed for entrance.
Student shall be medically fit.
Student shall be admitted once a year.
OBJECTIVES OF GNM:
Asses the nursing need of clients from birth to death.
Plan and carry out appropriate action to meet nursing needs.
Apply problem solving technique in nursing practice.
Recognize the need of continuning education for professional development.

B.UNIVERSITY LEVEL EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMMES:
1.B.Sc.Nursing
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:
The minimum age for admission shall be 17 years on 1st of December of the year
which admission is required.
Minimum education : 10+2 class passed with science & English elective with
aggregate of 45% marks from recognized board under AISSCE/CBSE/ICSE/SSCE/HSCE
or other equivalent Board.
Student shall be medically fit .
Students appearing in 10+2 examination in Science conducted by National Institute
of open school with 45% marks.
Students shall be admitted once in a year.
OBJECTIVES OF B.Sc.NURSING:
Perform as competent professional nurses in a variety of health care settings.
Exibhit a scientific attitude of independent enquiry into nursing problems.
Function effectively as a member of inter disciplinary health team and as a leader
of nursing team.

2. P.B.B.Sc.NURSING:
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:
Passed the Higher Secondary or Senior Secondary or Indermediate or 10+2or an
equivalent examination recognized by the university for this purpose.
Obtained a certificate in General nursing and Midwifery and registered as
R.N.R.M with the SNRC. A male nurse, trained before the implementation of the
new integrated course besides being registered as a nurse with SNRC, shall
produce evidence of training approved INC for a similar duration in lieu of
midwifery in any one of the following areas: O.T. techniques, Opthalmic Nursing,
Leprosy Nursing, TB Nursing, Psychiatric Nursing, Neurological and Neuro surgical
Nursing, Community Health Nursing, Cancer Nursing, Orthopedic Nursing.
Candidates shall be medically fit.
Students shall be admitted once in a year.

3. M.Sc.NURSING:
ELIGIBILTY CRITERIA:
The candidate should be a RN or RM or equivalent with any SNRC.
The minimum education requirements shall be the passing of
B.Sc.Nursing/B.Sc.Hons.Nursing/Post Basic .B.Sc.Nursing.
Minimum 1 year of work experience after Basic B.Sc.Nursing.
Minimum 1year of work experience prior or after Post Basic B.Sc.Nursing.
OBJECTIVES:
Utilize the concepts theories and principles of nursing science.
Demonstrate advance competence in practice of nursing.
Practice as nurse specialist.
Establish collaborative relationship with members of other disciples.
SCOPE :
Prepare graduates to assume responsibilities as:

4. M.phil ( Master of Philosophy Programme in Nursing)
Eligibility criteria:
Candidates can pursue an MPhil course if they havecompleted their master
degree in a related field in which they want to pursue an M.phil course.
Some colleges also specify that candidates should have secured at least
55% marks at the postgraduate level in the subject in which they want to
pursue an MPhil degree.
The subject taught as part of an Mphil course may vary from one college to
the other.
OBJECTIVES:
Utilize the concepts, theories and the principles of nursing science.
Demonstrate advance competence in practice of nursing.
Practice as anurse specialist.
Demonstrate leadership qualities and function effectively as nurse educators
and managers.
Demonstrate interest in continued learning for personal and professional
advancement.
COURSE DURATION:
The M.Phil students will be two distinct parts.
PART-1 : It consists of 3 couses to be selected from each of the three major
groups A,B and C.
PART-2 : After passing part-1 examination,the student shall be write
dissertation of each candidate will be determine by the advisory committee
including project supervisory.
5. NPCC (Nurse Practitioner in Critical Care)
Eligibility criteria:
The candidate have passed B.Sc.N./PB.B.Sc.N of any university.
Have a minimum 1year experience in Critical care unit.
OBJECTIVES:
Assume responsibility and accountability to provide competent care to
critically ill patients and appropriate family care in tertiary care centers.
Demonstrate clinical competencies in providing critical care which includes
diagnostic reasoning, complex monitoring and therapies.
Apply theoretical patho-physiology and pharmacological principles and
evidence base in implementing therapies/interventions in critical care.
Identify critical conditions using differential diagnosis and carry out treatment
to stabilize and restore patient’s health and minimize or manage
complications independently or collaboratively as a part of critical care team.
Collaborate with other health care professionals in the critical care team ,
across the continuum of critical care.
SCOPE:
Eligible to work in intensive care units, Emergency departments and
specialized care units in ‘Advanced practice roles such as clinical experts,
managers, educators and consultants.
COURSE DURATION: 2Years
6. Ph. D ( Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing )
Eligibility criteria:
Candidate passed M.Sc. Nursing with a minimum of 60% marks.
The final selection of the candidate is made on the basis of all India ,entrance
test.
Those candidates who passes MPhil degree as well as published original
research article are given a weight age of 10 marks.
DURATION OF COURSE:
Full-time/part-time candidate should complete research work and submit
the thesis of university within 5years.
For a part-time candidate,the maximum period for submit the thesis in
7years.
CONCLUSION:
All degree program courses are presently being offered in about lot of universities in the
country. Nurse practioners are leaders in the field of nursing. Nurse practitioners are leaders
in the field of nursing. They are people with ability to draw people to a version and
influencing them to commit to contributing to making the vision a reality.
