Fewer and fewer people these days write by hand with a pen or pencil.

What are the reasons for this?

Is it a positive or negative development?

In the contemporary era, the NECESSITY AND THE PREVALENCE of handwriting with a
has significantly declined. I believe that there are two primary causes of this, FIRSTLY the
widespread use of digital devices, and secondLY the growing environmental awareness,
which has promoted the paperless life. Overall, I believe this is a positive development, as it
increases efficiency AND reduces waste. In this essay I will explore and expand upon my
ideas and provide examples to support them.

FROM MY POINT OF VIEW, The decline of handwriting is attributed to the development of

computers, smartphones, and tablets, as well as the trend of paperless life which is cause by
environmental awareness. Texting on the digital devices don’t require a pen or pencil, users
just use their fingers touch the screen, or type on the keyboard. Furthermore, many people
now opt for digital recording, not only to reduce paper waste, but also to make data storage
and retrieval more convenient. Overall, these factors have led writers to rely more on typing,
resulting in a deterioration in handwriting skills.

Although the handwriting can stimulate creativity because it provides a freer means of ex-
pression, MAKING A COMPARISON WITH SOMETHING THAT YOU NEVER MENTIONED
BEFORE handwriting often cause mistakes and wasting time. Compared with typing, hand-
writing IS usually TIME-CONSUMING, is prone to spelling errors or ILLEGIBLE writing, and
is more difficult to modify than typing. This can result in misunderstandING of information in
official documentS. A recent study conducted by Harvard University in the USA in 2021 re-
vealed that the speed and accuracy of handwriting are both lower than typing AMONGST
THEIR STUDENTS.

In conclusion, the decline of handwriting is driven by the rise of digital devices and A paper-
less lifestyle. This change helps prevent writing errors and boosts efficiency, making it a pos-
itive development in my view.
