1.3 If your academic standing is satisfactory ,explain the strategies or

practices contributing to your success . If your standing indicates room
for improvement or exposed any risk, elaborate on the behaviours or
inconsistencies that have led you to this position. In your answer ,detail
your plan for the upcoming 7 weeks to ensure a solid finish for the
term.
Satisfactory Academic Standing

If your academic standing is satisfactory, you can elaborate on the

strategies and practices contributing to your success:

1. Effective Time Management: Highlight how you plan and prioritize

assignments and study schedules to meet deadlines.

2. Regular Attendance and Engagement: Explain your commitment to

attending classes regularly, participating in discussions, and seeking
clarification on challenging topics.

3. Consistent Study Habits: Mention how you review course material

consistently rather than cramming before exams.

4. Utilizing Campus Resources: Reference using resources like the

library, tutoring centres, or study groups to reinforce learning.

5. Self-Care: Emphasize maintaining a balance between academics

and personal well-being, such as exercising, eating well, and
managing stress effectively.

2.1 Referring to your Task & time management Plan from Assignment 1:

Adherence to your plan are you abiding by the proactive steps you
outlined for yourself ? Offer a detailed explanation ,specifying what has
worked well ( including an example and an outcome ) and what
hasn’t .There were 5 questions . Reflect and provide examples for a
minimum of two of the questions.

Reflection on Task & Time Management Plan Adherence

In my Task & Time Management Plan from Assignment 1, I committed to a

series of proactive steps aimed at improving my efficiency and academic
performance. Upon reflection, I have had mixed success in adhering to
this plan.
1. Time Allocation for Prioritized Tasks

One of the key questions I addressed in my plan was how I would allocate
sufficient time to prioritized tasks. I implemented a structured schedule
using a digital planner, assigning specific time blocks for studying,
assignments, and leisure. This approach worked well for major
assignments, such as a recent group project in my hospitality
management course. I dedicated two hours daily over a week to research,
resulting in a well-organized contribution that impressed my teammates
and contributed to an “A” grade. The outcome demonstrated that proper
time allocation prevents last-minute stress and enhances productivity.

However, there were instances where this plan fell short. For example, I
underestimated the time needed for studying for a midterm exam.
Despite my scheduled blocks, distractions and procrastination caused
delays, leaving me cramming the night before. This highlighted the need
to refine my focus and be more realistic with time estimates.

2. Addressing Procrastination

Another question from my plan revolved around strategies to combat

procrastination. I introduced the Commodore technique (25-minute
focused sessions followed by short breaks), which has been moderately
effective. For instance, during a presentation preparation, this method
kept me engaged and ensured steady progress. By breaking tasks into
smaller segments, I avoided feeling overwhelmed and completed the work
two days ahead of schedule.

However, procrastination still affected smaller, less urgent tasks. For

instance, I delayed responding to emails and organizing notes, which later
created unnecessary pressure. This shows that while my strategy works
for larger projects, I need to apply similar discipline to routine tasks.
Conclusion

While I have adhered to many elements of my Task & Time Management

Plan, there are areas needing improvement. What worked well was
allocating dedicated time for high-priority projects and using structured
techniques like the Commodore method. What didn’t work as effectively
was staying consistent with routine tasks and estimating sufficient time
for all activities. Moving forward, I aim to refine my planning process by
setting more realistic timelines and extending my time management
strategies to smaller tasks.

2.2 Adjustment and Improvement : Detail what changes you plan

to implement for a successful semester conclusion ,given the
insights from your reflections . Your response with specific examples
ensure realistic and truthful reflections.
Adjustment and Improvement Plan

Based on my reflections, I have identified key areas for

improvement and developed strategies to ensure a successful
conclusion to the semester. These adjustments aim to address gaps
in my current approach and build on what has worked effectively.

1. Enhancing Time Management for Routine and Urgent Tasks

One major realization is the need to allocate realistic time for all
tasks, including smaller ones. I will create a daily priority list that
categorizes tasks as “urgent” and “routine.”

Example: Responding to emails or organizing notes will be

scheduled during a fixed time slot each evening, ensuring these
tasks don’t accumulate and cause stress later.

Why it will work: Routine time slots will help me develop a habit,
and including them in my daily plan ensures I don’t overlook smaller
tasks.

Additionally, I plan to revisit my digital planner weekly to adjust

timelines based on ongoing commitments, ensuring flexibility in my
schedule.

2. Strengthening Focus to Avoid Procrastination

While the Commodore technique has helped for larger tasks, I need
to apply it to all study sessions consistently. To reinforce focus, I plan
to:

Study in distraction-free environments like the library.

Use apps that block social media and other distractions during study
hours.

Example: For the upcoming research assignment, I will dedicate

three Commodore cycles daily in the library, allowing for steady
progress over two weeks instead of rushing at the last minute.

Outcome: This approach will improve the quality of my submissions

and reduce last-minute stress.

3. Setting Realistic Goals and Breaking Down Tasks

To avoid overcommitting or underestimating time, I will set smaller,

achievable goals for each week.

Example: For final exam preparation, I will break the syllabus into
manageable sections, covering one section per day rather than
trying to study everything in one sitting. This will allow for better
retention and thorough revision closer to the exam.

Why it will work: Breaking tasks into smaller steps makes them less
overwhelming and ensures steady progress without burnout.

4. Seeking Support and Collaboration

Another insight from my reflection is that teamwork and feedback

improve outcomes. I will seek more support from peers and
instructors when I struggle with time or concepts.

Example: For the group project, I will propose earlier meetings and
task division to avoid last-minute coordination issues.
Question 2.3 We can learn from each other .Regarding the learning
objective presentations by your peers; Explain two major takeaways
that you have implemented this semester ,either in your academic
or personal life .Your answer should be supported with an example
and a detailed explanation .
Learning from my peers during their presentations has significantly
influenced my approach to both academics and personal growth.
Below are two major takeaways I have implemented this semester:

1. Importance of Active Listening and Effective Communication

One presentation emphasized the value of active listening in

fostering effective communication. The presenter discussed how
attentive listening improves understanding and builds stronger
connections in group settings. This concept resonated with me,
especially in collaborative academic projects.

Implementation: During a group project for my hospitality

management course, I consciously practiced active listening by
summarizing and repeating key points shared by my teammates.
This ensured everyone was on the same page and reduced
misunderstandings.

Example: In one instance, a teammate suggested an idea for

improving customer service processes, but their point was initially
overlooked. By reiterating their suggestion and seeking clarification,
we identified a valuable solution that enhanced our project.

3.1 Reflecting on the Big Five personality test – [Link]

[Link]/big-five Which assess five major personality
dimensions ;extraversion, agreeableness ,openness,
conscientiousness ,and neuroticism, let’s delve into self-
improvement efforts related to your personality traits .
3.1 Consider areas where you might identify weaknesses or
opportunities for growth in your personality traits ,and describe the
steps you’ve taken to develop in these areas .For instance ,if you’ve
identified a tendency towards being lower in openness ,share
specific insights discovered from two traits.
Describe an instance in the last 7 weeks where these traits have
been apparent in your behaviour or decision making . Details the
actions taken to stretch beyond your comfort zone in this domain .
One area I identified for growth is openness to new experiences. As
someone studying hospitality management, I’ve realized that being
adaptable and open to diverse perspectives is crucial in this
industry. Reflecting on my personality, I noticed that I tend to rely on
familiar routines and feel hesitant about stepping into uncharted
territory.

Steps Taken to Develop:

1. Mindfulness and Reflection: I started journaling to track moments

where I shied away from new ideas or experiences, helping me
recognize patterns.

2. Exposure to New Experiences: I committed to trying at least one

unfamiliar activity every week, such as experimenting with a
cuisine I’ve never tried or participating in cultural events at
Cambrian College.

3. Seeking Feedback: I asked peers and mentors to point out

situations where they noticed hesitation or resistance in me,
encouraging self-awareness.

Specific Instance: In the past seven weeks, one instance where this
trait became apparent was during a team project for my hospitality
management course. We were tasked with creating a marketing
plan for a new event, and my team suggested incorporating virtual
reality as a key feature. Initially, I resisted the idea, feeling it was
too complex and outside my expertise. However, I recognized this
as a chance to stretch beyond my comfort zone.

Actions Taken:

I volunteered to research VR applications in hospitality, even though

I had no prior knowledge about it.

I reached out to my college’s tech support team to learn the basics

of VR integration.

I worked with my teammates to understand how this innovative

approach could enhance customer experience.
Navigating through the initial seven weeks at Cambrian has
involved adapting to substantial changes, learning new systems,
adjusting to different interpersonal interactions, and maintaining
accountability. Your attitudes during this period have played a vital
role in shaping your experiences and outcomes.

Question 4.1 Attitudinal Impact

Describe how shifts in your attitudes have positively or negatively

impacted your success this semester. Ensure to support your
discussion with a specific example demonstrating the tangible
consequences of your attitudinal change. (5 marks)
Answer 4.1: Attitudinal Impact

During the first seven weeks at Cambrian, shifts in my attitude have

significantly impacted my academic and personal success. Initially, I
struggled with self-doubt and procrastination, believing I could
manage tasks closer to deadlines. This negative attitude hindered
my performance in courses like ISP3026, where incomplete
preparation led to lower grades.

However, recognizing the need for change, I adopted a more

proactive and positive mind-set. I began setting daily goals and
actively engaging in my classes. For example, in HRM1035, I shifted
from passively participating in group discussions to taking an active
role in brainstorming and leading tasks. This change resulted in
improved group dynamics and positive feedback from my professor
on our project, boosting my confidence.

This attitudinal shift also helped me view challenges as learning

opportunities rather than obstacles, fostering resilience and
consistency in my academic efforts. Consequently, I have seen
tangible improvements in my productivity and performance,
particularly in managing assignments and group collaborations
effectively.

Question 4.2 Application to Future Scenarios

Considering your experiences and learnings from Part 1, how will
you apply this understanding of the impact of attitude in future
scenarios, both academically and in potential work environments?
Provide a potential situation and detail how you would consciously
leverage a positive attitude to influence a favourable outcome. (5
marks)

In your response, explore the emotional and practical aspects of

your experiences, providing clear examples and future applications
to illustrate your reflections and strategies moving forward.

Total (10 marks)

Answer 4.2: Application to Future Scenarios

The insights gained from my experiences during the first seven weeks at
Cambrian have highlighted the critical role of a positive attitude in
overcoming challenges and achieving success. I plan to apply this
understanding in both academic and professional settings by consciously
fostering optimism, adaptability, and a proactive mind-set.

For instance, in a future workplace scenario, such as working in a hotel’s

event management department, I might encounter a high-pressure
situation where a client requests last-minute changes to an event plan.
Instead of becoming frustrated or overwhelmed, I would consciously adopt
a problem-solving attitude, focusing on the solution rather than the
inconvenience. This might involve collaborating with my team to reassign
tasks, quickly updating the schedule, and communicating effectively with
the client. By maintaining a positive and composed demeanour, I could
turn a potentially negative situation into an opportunity to showcase my
adaptability and customer service skills, leading to a favourable outcome.

Similarly, in academics, I plan to use a positive attitude to handle difficult

assignments or heavy workloads. For example, if I face overlapping
deadlines for group projects, I will approach the situation with clear
prioritization, break tasks into smaller, manageable steps, and maintain a
growth-oriented mind-set. By viewing these challenges as opportunities to
build skills, I can stay motivated and ensure timely completion of my
work, reducing stress.
Emotionally, I will remind myself that challenges are temporary and
growth-driven, helping me stay resilient and confident. Practically, I’ll
continue using tools like planners and weekly progress check-ins to
remain organized and focused. This approach ensures I consistently create
positive outcomes in both academic and professional scenarios.
