Topic 1: Some people think that hosting an international sports event is good for the country, while some

people
think it is bad. Discuss both views

Sample 1. Band 8.0

In recent time, there some people believe that hosting an international sports event brings a lot of benefits, while
others think that it has several drawbacks. This essay will shed light on both points of view.

On the one hand, there are advantages to hosting an international sports event. Firstly, a global sports event
contributes to go up tourist income. It is clear to see that big event usually attract a lot of people; therefore,
businesses will have opportunities to develop profit. For instance, thank to organize Sea Game at Viet Nam in 2003
that many people who lived from other countries came to Viet Nam, and this help tourist income growth. Secondly,
facilities sport are improved through famous brands. To illustrate, if the football team wore clothes or shoes of brands
such as Adidas and Nike, this like a form advertise help these brand are more development.

On the other hand, many people think that hosting an international sports event has some disadvantages. First of all, it
is one of the reasons why the city can face congestion. Obviously, now sports events are more and more growth. For
example, in 2020 in Viet Nam, a lot of match football are attracted by plenty of citizens; thus, it causes traffic jams.
Finally, a large sports event usually has many people; therefore, the security level is not high. For instance, inhabitants
become victims of thieves.

In conclusion, hosting a global sports event creat some pros such as increasing tourist income and improving facilities
for sport; however, it has cons namely making congestion as well as poor security.

Sample 2. Band 8.5

Over recent years, it has become a topic of debate as a section of the society believes that making arrangements for
international sports events is beneficial for the host country whereas others argue that it is damaging for the host
nation's image. In my opinion, I believe that if planning is done in a proper way it is always advantageous for the
country.

On the one hand, with regard to conducting international games, people believe that it is not acceptable for several
reasons. Firstly, they think that it might increase the crime rate. Since citizens of different nations will come with
various intentions and the host country's traditional and cultural values might be a barrier for them; as a result, cases
of fights, drug abuses and robberies might be recorded. Furthermore, there might be some strong possibilities that the
event conducting nation might be involved in some money laundering activities to raise funds in case of unavailability
of sufficient financial resources, and South Africa is the latest example of this. This is the reason that some people hold
the view of not facilitating games in the nation.

Nevertheless, On the other hand, it must be acknowledged that nations who host sports events on the international
level not only witness an enormous development but also present themselves in the international market. This is
because to accommodate and provide facilities to foreign visitors and players, host county has to invest a prodigious
amount of money in road construction, public transport and medical facilities, which would help the local people in
long run. Besides this, the host country would have a unique image in the foreign market which would certainly
improve the trade opportunities with other countries. Common Wealth Games, for example, were conducted in India
in 2012, and this grand event was a great success and after that India became one of the best choices for foreign
markets to invest their money in. Therefore, I completely advocate that hosting international events is certainly
profitable.

To conclude, although many people consider facilitating international sports events are detrimental to a country's
image, I wholeheartedly believe that it is always fruitful for a country to be a developed and prosperous nation.

Sample 3. Band 8

There is an endless debate between individuals who suggest that hosting an international sports event is efficient for
the country, while others define this idea as a negative influence on the country. I will discuss both views and give my
own opinion on this topic.
On the one hand, organizing global sports events is a sufficient way to attract more investors and tourists. The
countries with poorly developed infrastructure and economy are in desperate need to receive some financing from
any available sources. Consequently, such affairs facilitate the possibility of attracting customers to that country.
Moreover, hosting such an affair gives people a place to work, even if it is temporary. For example, countries like
Brazil, South Korea and etc., engaged in such matters and tackled problems like inflation, unemployment and low -
quality tourism.

On the other hand, erecting buildings or stadiums for such meetings is an enormous expense from the country's
budget. Some societies do not have enough funds to support them. This leads to the deficiency of the state's budget
and the government will have to take international debts. Meanwhile, the sectors like education, healthcare, defence,
and public goods will suffer from the lack of financing from the budget, as all of the money will go to the coverage of
the credit. For instance, Kazakhstan suffered from a decrease in salaries, scholarships, and pensions during the
construction of one of those sports ceremonies.

In conclusion, this situation requires deep research on the experience of other countries that hosted such events.
Personally I see more advantages rather than negative sides, as building and generating facilities to host those affairs
increases the number of consumers and entrepreneurs.

Topic 2.Some people think students should study the science of food and how to prepare it. Others think that
school time should be used in learning important subjects. Discuss both views and give your opinion?

Sample 1. Band 9

It is a debatable issue that students should learn nutriments and cooking skills or they should concentrate on studying
the main subjects. In my essay, I will discuss both views and explain why learners should experience a learning
program that combines both.

An undeniable fact is that food is necessary that human beings cannot lack in life, so studying about nutrients and
methods of cooking should be added as a mandatory subject. To explain this, food study can help them have versatile
knowledge relating to nourishments, so they might have more control over what they are putting into their body as
well as design a regiment on their own. Besides, when understanding obviously about cooking, they can strengthen
the relationships with their family or their friends throughout the meal made by them. Furthermore, cooking is
considered a survival skill, as they can easily adapt to an environment with self-sufficiency. Thus, if a human has
enough ability to survive in any conditions, they will be independent and hence have a surge in sense of confidence
which is one of the elements to succeed on the career path afterwards.

Academic subjects such as math and literature can provide an individual with the foundation knowledge to smoothly
transit into a professional working environment since they are living in a modern world, where everyone is very
competitive with each other, therefore, the companies require more and more increasing quality for their human
resources. Moreover, should they not spend time on learning major subjects, they could receive regrets from
unwanted situations like they will tend to easily misunderstand academic discipline if they pursue higher education or
they will limit their job opportunities. This is because they do not step into adulthood, so academic knowledge should
be prioritized in lieu of focusing deeply on nutrient-related sectors that actually do not bring a lot more benefits at
school age.

In conclusion, while some advocates still consider prioritizing whether traditional school curriculum or innovative one,
personally we should balance between both to optimize benefits for learners.

Sample 2. Band 8.5

In the age of science, developing nutritional knowledge of food and understanding the process of cooking is the
suitable knowledge to teach students. Some others are opposed to this idea, saying that student should be studying
the main subjects. In my essay, I will discuss both views and. Explain the reason why important subjects should be
prioritized in education.

On the one hand, I understand that learning major subjects adequately is better than for student development in their
age. Firstly, academic subjects are the premise for career prospects, which help students have more job opportunities.
To clarify this, a knowledge-based background is the most concerning element to catch the eyes’ recruiters. In
addition, studying important subjects also play a crucial role in students’ daily life, which develops a set of very
important skills inside them. For example, logical problems in Maths and Physics are the foundation for learners
having the ability to solve problems more precisely, therefore people might easily avert many unwanted situations in
their real life.

On the other hand, food science knowledge ought to be applied in school because it is the importance of nutrition
education for human well-being. To begin with, cooking is a survival skill to help them live independently, students
tend to be less dependent on their parents in their real life. Through a proper curriculum for nutrition education,
scholars can plan a healthy diet which applied in their daily scientifically. Secondly, practice subjects like preparing
food activities is a great time for the student to strengthen their relationship with their friend. Moreover, students can
reduce stress after concentrating on main subjects for a long time, which will encourage students to get motivated for
going to school.

In conclusion, studying academic subjects in school will help people to find their goal and enhance their logical
thinking in real life. But, I think scholars should be learnt food science knowledge and academic knowledge together to
develop themself comprehensively.

Topic 3. Some countries allow old people to work to any age that they want. Do the advantages outweigh the
disadvantages?

Band 8.5

Since many countries, such as Japan and the United States, are facing an ageing population, issues surrounding the
elderly community are increasingly debated. In some parts of the world, senior residents may retire whenever they
prefer. Although there are both advantages and disadvantages to this policy, I think the risks entailed completely
outweigh the benefits.

The main benefit of the absence of retirement age is an improvement in the overall well-being of the elderly. They will
be mentally healthier working compared to staying at home. Being employed prevents the self-esteem of old people
from deteriorating by allowing them to continue contributing to society. Furthermore, interaction with like-minded
colleagues at the workplace keeps the seniors from feeling lonely, especially when their children do not often spend
time with them. Having an occupation also helps sustains physical health. Physical movements are inherent to some
lines of job, such as coaching or performing; and even if the job requires workers to sit in one place, transportation to
and from work provides some extra workout for the elderly. By increasing the amount of physical activity carried out
by the senior on a daily basis, having a job certainly will help keep them fit and free of ailments.

Nonetheless, there are substantial risks to both old people and society at large in the absence of a limit on the working
age. It has been shown by scientists across disciplines that certain functions of the mind and body naturally
degenerate as humans become older. For instance, psychological research proved that the abilities to encode new
memory and to pay attention are lesser in older subjects, and it only takes observation to realize that somatic reflexes
are slower in older people. This implies that senior civilians are unfit for most occupations: with *low-risk jobs like
teaching and coaching, the consequences may be limited to slipping up during lectures or making mistakes when
scoring; but for *high-risk jobs such as ship navigating or policing, being unable to remember, focus and react quickly
can easily cost the lives of the elderly themselves as well as their colleagues’ and other civilians. That is to say,
regardless of benefits on the individual level for senior citizens, the duration of time a worker is allowed to work
should be restricted to prevent regrettable workplace accidents.

In conclusion, when the policy of having residents decide the time of their retirement is concerned, the advantages
concentrate at the individual level while the disadvantages can potentially affect a whole community. Bearing that
contrast in mind, although the seniors in some countries can work to any age that they desire, this is not a model to
learn from. In my opinion, the drawbacks certainly prevail, hence the aforementioned nations should reconsider their
relevant laws as soon as possible.

Topic 4.Many people believe that it is easier to have a healthy lifestyle in the countryside. Others believe that there
are health benefits of living in cities. Discuss both views and give your opinions.

Sample band 9
It is a debatable issue whether everyone should live in a rural area or they should stay in the town to easily receive
health benefits. In this essay, I will discuss both views, and I also explain why I feel that everyone should enjoy city life.

on the one hand, the undeniable fact is that remote areas can decrease the rate of catching psychological problems
like stress and depression. To explain this, they are living in a modern world, where human beings constantly make
efforts to get competitive with each other, so those who live in the countryside tend to have less tendency to compete
for their jobs. Furthermore, the rural setting is considered as a natural environment that supports them to follow a
healthy life with the most basic things by self-sufficiency. Otherwise, they would have to make more money to afford
some foodstuffs and others, which is one of the barriers affecting their desire for a sound living.

On the contrary, I strongly opine that settling down in the city can make people satisfy modern amenities as well as
have better social security. For instance, urban dwellers might easily access services of the gym and medical centres or
shop for high-quality commodities, which help them create ideal conditions to focus more on their healthy lifestyle.
Should they not stay in the metropolis, they could struggle to be accessible with the leading educational system,
therefore, they can lack opportunities to have versatile knowledge in order to build up a scientific regimen on their
own. Moreover, although residing in the centre seems to face more or less environmental pollutions such as air and
noise, these can be overcome by the fast-paced development of technology in the future, so living in the urban would
give them take more responsibility of protecting the environment when they have a higher awareness of healthy
community. As a result, they make sure they would love and respect themselves much more.

In conclusion, despite the fact that living in the countryside has some advantages for those who would like to find a
more gentle and peaceful life, I believe that they should stay metropolitan to enjoy a variety of utilities and the higher
privileges of social welfare.

Topic 5.Young people who commit crimes should be treated in the same way as adults who commit crimes. To what
extend do you agree or disagree?

Sample band 9

A considerable proportion of citizens adopt a preconceived notion that atrocities are considered equal in the eyes of
justice despite the legal category age. I strongly oppose the former declaration, and this essay will hold the reasons
for my view.

To commence, leading a minor to an equivalent prison for adults has numerous negative repercussions on the generic
development of a human. In other words, the type of nutrition that generally includes insufficient nutritional elements
is not appropriate in terms of adequate body’s growth. Moreover, there are certain rules inside the jail that oblige
prisoners to adjust their daily routines which will affect various physical aspects such as sleeping hours and though
works. As reported in the Times magazine in 2015, a significant number of suicide cases under legal age has been
registered in police records due to detrimental treatment inside penal institutions. Hence, the experience of balanced
punishment facilities has proved harmful effects on the healthy involvements of a young individual.

Another compelling reason to support my view is that the mind of a juvenile did not attend a complete maturity in
order to be convicted similarly to grown persons. This means that special tribunals are allocated for juniors.
Additionally, numerous countries rely on rehabilitation centres because they believe that minors need special care
that will provide a second opportunity for a prosperous future. To demonstrate, I had my relative who was addicted
to drugs, however, the Canadian government procured required assistance which led him to the way of salvation. Thus,
conviction is treated differently according to the mental level of each person.

In conclusion, some people consider that crimes people must be evaluated identically among social groups. I totally
disagree with this statement because of unfavourable consequences on the natural growth and mental completion of
an adolescent.

Topic 6.Some people think advertisements may have positive economic effects whereas others think there are
negative social effects because individuals are not satisfied with who they are and what they have. Discuss both
views and give your own opinion.

Sample band 8.
For the time being, a commercial has been growing and broadening influence, due to have been changing
technologies and increasing sell which have a positive impact on the income of companies. However, society
throughout the years has been noticing degradation among consumers, because they are more time choosing things
imposed by advertising and almost lost their own opinion. Overall, I think we could avoid negative effects and get
more positive for everybody if use advertisement carefully.

Thus, in the beginning the advertisement was developed with the good aims inasmuch as advertising clip should give
consumers wide options to choice. Besides, via such video companies could make highly competitive conditions
among one-type products. Now an advertisement around us permanently because gets access to more gadgets such
as the internet, a billboard, the TV and so on. Therefore, new products and companies get more chances to represent
them for better selling.

However, throughout years clip makers have been finding out methods manipulate of an audience by repeatedly
represents, repeat words, or, even, implement some technology that impairs on the psychology of consumers. For
example, early in the century had shown much news about a twenty-fifth frame that imposed people to buy this
product then throughout plenty of years different sources to try denied this information. Moreover, many
advertisements show standards of beauty via new creams or other products that make women more beautiful or help
lose weight that leads to doubt about their appearance. Besides, many companies via advertising have been selling
not quality products because of a good clip outweigh high quality in our time. Thus, a good start turns into something
ambiguous.

To sum up, I believe advertising as well as other methods of product promotions. However, necessary to restrict using
such videos and turn them into a style that is more comparative than attractive and intrusive.

Topic 7. Many people argue that in order to improve educational quality, high school students are encouraged to
make comments or even criticism on their teachers. Others think it will lead to loss of respect and discipline in the
classroom. Discuss both views and give your opinion.

Sample band 8

There exists an argument regarding whether learners in high school should be allowed to offer suggestions or to
contend with their teachers as a way of promoting the quality of education. Yet, a few others believe this might result
in disrespectful and shameful conduct in the learning environment. Personally, I feel the teachers should be allowed to
carry out their work without disturbances. In this essay, I will tackle both of these views and give a conclusion.

First of all, the purpose of having a classroom in existence is to ensure the free flow of information among the
members. Nonetheless, teachers at times may lack updated data on a given topic and only provide half-barked
information to students. That being said, most pupils may have come across more recent data that can be of great
benefit to the entire class if they were to be allowed to bring it to the fore. For example, since the current education
system requires that teachers should stick closely to the provided syllabus regardless of whether it is updated or not,
they are limited in the kind of alterations they can make but to rigidly follow through. Hence, if students are given
chance to comment, they can bring up new ideas for the benefit of everyone involved.

On the other hand, granting students such freedom would mean giving them access to a lack of respect and order in a
classroom. To put this in perspective, upon correcting a mistake by their teachers, a pupil might begin to assume that
he knows better than them. The resulting impact of this route is an indisciplined student who lacks respect for his
tutors. Take for instance, in a survey conducted by the ministry of education in Malawi on impcat of student
comments on the classroom environment, it was determined that many pupils lost respect fro their teachers. No
wonder the present education system deters any student from making comments or criticizing during lectures.

By way of conclusion, I reaffirm my position that not giving chance to learners in high school to comment is key in
maintaining law and order at the classroom level.

Topic 8. More and more people decide to eat healthy food and exercise regularly. What are the reasons for this
trend? What can be done to encourage more people to eat healthier and exercise?

Sample band 8
It is true to say that people tend to have nutritious food and do some physical activities more than in the past. In the
following paragraphs, a number of factors contribute to this trend, and possible ideas to support these people will be
outlined.

To begin with, the trend of a healthy lifestyle is more common in today’s world. Due to technological development,
people can easily access some healthy information about nutrition and physical activities. For example, some articles
provide information about how to cook healthy food, making people conveniently follow and cook nutritional meals
easier than in the past. Moreover, the Internet can provide information about the correct ways to do some physical
activities which people can easily follow to do so.

Providing functions for physical activities will increase and encourage people to follow this trend. To illustrate, the
governments should invest in public parks and gyms which can help people to do more exercise by providing suitable
equipment. Furthermore, the authorities should raise awareness of eating unhealthy food such as fast food as it can
make people aware of an unhealthy lifestyle. Additionally, campaigns about being healthy in society can encourage
people to spend more time on exercise and eat some healthy food.

In conclusion, technological development provides information about the health of people which encourages people
to do more exercise and cook healthy food conveniently. In addition, the governments should provide public places for
people and give knowledge to people of a healthy lifestyle to help them be healthier.

Topic 9. More and more parents are allowing their children to play on computers and tablets as they think that
children should learn technology skills.

Do the advantages of this development outweigh the disadvantages?

Sample band 8

In recent years, the issue related to digital disruption has attracted the public’s attention. Some people believe that
sophisticated modern technologies are the greatest source of knowledge for adolescents, while others oppose that
this development could be a nightmare for parents. In my point of view, I am inclined to believe that there are various
merits, despite having some demerits.

On the one side of the argument, firstly, computer skills obviously become indispensable in our lives. What this means
is that cutting-edge telecommunications have revolutionised the way we live. Thanks to the Covid-19 pandemic, for
instance, youngsters inevitably are forced to study via virtual platforms, thus; it is essential to let them know how to
use these gadgets effectively. Secondly, children totally gain plentiful benefits towards using computer programs or
software when they are mature. This is because several organizations prefer the applicant to be excellent in advanced
applications such as Microsoft Office. In addition, the internet provides a wide range of knowledge, particularly for
academic purposes. For example, Udemy is an American massive open online course provider aimed at professional
adults and students.

Turning to the other sides of the argument, the negative impacts cannot be overlooked. Initially, the hot-tempered
theme eventually affects toddlers’ personalities. In other words, they significantly lack critical and emotional maturity
leading them to inevitably absorb aggressive behaviours. Some research reveals that computer games such as GTA,
Mad Max and Mortal Kombat are likely to increase offensive person’s thoughts, feelings and manners owing to
unsupervised visitation from parents. In addition, juveniles tend to be isolated people because of experiencing
internet addiction disorder - a behavioural addiction characterized by compulsive, uncontrollable Internet use that
interferes with daily life.

In conclusion, I would like to reiterate the advantages of this matter far outstrip the disadvantages. Although there are
potential drawbacks, they outweigh the positives. Therefore, parents should extol the virtue of the digital age by
allowing their kids to freely use up-to-date devices under supervision.

Topic 10. People aim to achieve a balance between their work and lives, but few people achieve it. what are the
causes of this problem? How to overcome it?

Sample band 8
It is appropriate that many people urge to accomplish work-life balance, but few of them achieve it. While extra
working hours at enterprises and intend of luxury life are the causatives of this problem, this can be remedied by a
couple of measures.

The first and foremost reason for the work-life imbalance is spending outsized time in the office. This is because
enterprises insist the employers work more hours to gain their extra profit. Furthermore, parents are earnest in
earning money for their upliftment of social status. That is to say, they firmly believe accomodating luxury things and
owning a home improve their societal values.

For example, adults live extravagantly by purchasing a car, bungalow, foreign education for children, etc. Thus, the
materialistic thoughts of the employers persuade them to the friction.

To remedy this problem, yearly vacation from the employer and the contentment in living a simple life are the
measures to be adopted. Regarding the former reason, scheduling a vacation once in a year by the employer would
render the employee a stress-free life to be shared with their family and friends. Moreover, they can focus on their
profession with a rejuvenated mentality once they return from the holidays. Secondly to the latter solution, if people
are satisfied with what they have in their life, would imitate their friction in work-life balance. In other words, leading
a simple life with the things they have would provide them with job satisfaction and happy life. Consecutively,break-
time from profession and simplicity in existence would be a better choice for a fast-paced life.

In conclusion, though extra working and luxury living could be the reason for imbalanced life. This probably is rectified
by intending yearly holidays and not being spendthrift. Eventually, leading a simple life without work pressure will
render a betterment pace for the people.
