B. Setting the Stage


Directions: The teacher will show pictures showing the use of prepositions. The
pupils will analyze the different positions of the mouse on the image.
C. Explaining the Pupils what to Do
Read along silently as the teacher reads the story.

Tessie and the Kittens


Tessie has nine kittens. Sometimes they are very naughty. They like to move
around the house.
Trixie is asleep on the sofa. Topsy is playing with the ball of yarn. Topper is
running after a mouse. Tommy is hiding under the table. Tipsy is next to the
fishbowl. Trixia is walking into the living room. Tinkle is jumping over the bin. Tally
is standing in front of the door. Tommy is hiding behind the chair. Now that Tessie
has found all the kittens, she puts them in a cage.

Look at the underlined words from the story Tessie and the Kittens. Pay
attention to the words that come after the underlined words. What kind of word
is each one? What do the underlined words show? What do we call them?
Preposition - are words which show the relationship between a noun or a
pronoun object and some other words in the sentence
Prepositions are words that show location of persons, animals, or
things.
Example: in at around, over, behind, by, along, inside, outside, near,
etc.
What other preposition show location?
Prepositions can also show time relationships.
Example:
1. I went to the market before I made dinner. (The preposition
before describes the time relationship between going to the
store and making dinner.)
2. We told ghost stories during the night.
Other examples: after, to, from, during, through, until, etc.

D. Modeling the Pupils


The teacher will ask the pupils to underline the appropriate preposition to
complete each sentence and ask them on what preposition does it shows?

1. The audience stayed (until, at) late in the afternoon to see their favorite artist
perform on stage.
2. Jeepneys, trucks, and carts were parked (around, above) the City Hall.
3. This year’s Market Day is much different (off, From) last year’s celebration.
4. Many people participated (to, in) the Science Exhibit this year.
5. The truck lost control (above, in) of the bridge and side-swiped the concrete
barriers.
E. Guided Practice
Directions: The teacher will read the short paragraph below. Let the pupils underline
the prepositions in sentences.

Maria is walking on the grass. Riaz is walking on the foot- path. A boy and a
girl are running across the road. It is not safe. They should look right and left and
then cross the road. They are going to school. They are late for school. They are all
in a hurry. The school begins at half past seven. The children are in the classroom.
They are putting their bags on desk. They are sitting on their chair. The teacher in
coming into the classroom. The children are looking at the teacher. She is writing on
the black board. She is writing with a piece of chalk. Zia is late. She is walking into
the classroom.

F. Independent Practice
The teacher will ask the pupils to write 5 sentences using the different
prepositions listed from the chart.

G. Closure
What are the different prepositions? State some of it and use it in a sentence.

H. Evaluation
Directions: Choose the correct preposition inside the box to complete the
sentences.
