How to plan the study time
1. Establish short-term and long-term goals for studying. It will
be easier to create and manage your schedule if you know what
you want to achieve at the end. This will also help you identify
areas that you need to focus on.
2. List all the subjects you need to study. Perhaps the first step in
creating your study schedule is to list all of the subjects and
courses you need to study for. Putting your obligations on paper will
help you get a better idea of what you really have to do. If you
have specific exams to study for, list these instead of courses.
3. Figure out what you need to do for each subject or exam
If you have a study guide or a textbook with review sections,
use it to narrow down what you list.
Reserve time for reading.
Reserve time for reviewing your notes.
Reserve time to create exam study guides, if you'll need
them
4. Prioritize your list
Put a number, starting with one, next to all of your subjects or exams.
If you need the most time for math, give it a one.
If you need the least time for history (and you have five subjects to
study for), give it a five.
Take into account difficulty of the subject or exam or the lessons you
need to cover.
Take into account the amount of reading you will need to do.
Take into account the amount of reviewing you will need to do.
5. Divide your available time during the week into study blocks
Before you go on, you need to divide up your available time during the week into study blocks.
6. Reserve time for non-academic activities
Reserve time for events you can‟t reschedule, your
grandmother‟s birthday, a family reunion, or your dog‟s
veterinary appointment.
Block off any times you have other commitments such as
swim practice, family time, or religious services.
Reserve plenty of time for rest, sleep, and exercise.
If you only have a very limited amount of time before
important exams, consider postponing or canceling
regular social or extra-curricular activities.
7. Fill in your study blocks
Once you‟ve got your schedule blocked out and you know what you need to schedule,
fill in your schedule. Write down which subject you are studying in each session. This
will help keep you on track, create checkpoints for the material, and allow you to
organize your textbooks and study materials ahead of time.
Useful Proverbs All English Speakers Should Know
The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence.
„The grass is always greener” is a proverb that teaches us it‟s not good to be jealous
(to want what other people have). It may seem like everyone around you has
“greener grass,” meaning nicer cars, better jobs, etc.
Don’t judge a book by its cover.
“Things are not always what they seem. This
proverb teaches you not to make judgments
about other people because of how they look
or dress. A book with a boring or plain cover
could be amazing. The same is true with
people. A person might look like an
athlete or fool, but there is probably a lot
more to them than clothes suggest.”
You can’t have your cake and eat it too.
“If you eat your cake, you won‟t have it anymore, will you? So you can‟t do both. This
proverb is about having two opposite desires, and how it‟s impossible to get both. Its meaning
is similar to the proverb, “You can‟t have the best of both worlds.”
Practice makes perfect.
“It would be amazing if the first time you picked up a guitar you could play it like a rock
star. Or if the first time you got in a car, you could drive like a professional. Or if you
could speak English perfectly after one lesson. Everything is difficult when you are a
beginner. But if you stick with it, if you keep practicing, you can master anything.”
Need to know about Einstein
Einstein was slow in learning how to speak. His parents even consulted a
doctor. He also had a cheeky rebelliousness toward authority, which led one
headmaster to expel him and another to amuse history by saying that he
would never amount to much. But these traits helped make him a genius. His
cocky contempt for authority led him to question conventional wisdom. His
slow verbal development made him curious about ordinary things — such as
space and time — that most adults take for granted. His father gave him a
compass at age five, and he puzzled over the nature of a magnetic field for
the rest of his life. And he tended to think in pictures rather than words.
Einstein is famous for:
Albert Einstein's Inventions and Discoveries. A childhood portrait of Albert
Einstein and his sister Maja
As a physicist, Einstein had many discoveries, but he is perhaps best known
for his theory of relativity and the equation E=MC2, which foreshadowed
the development of atomic power and the atomic bomb.
Bending Light Through Water
Punch a hole in a clear plastic bottle two inches from the bottom. Put your
finger over the hole, fill the bottle with water and cap it to keep it from draining
out.
Darken the room and cover part of a flashlight with your fingers to make the
beam narrower. When you take the cap off the bottle, the water will flow out in
an arc. Shine the flashlight at the stream from the side of the bottle opposite the
hole. The light will bend with the arc and create a bright glow where the water
hits the sink.
How Does It Work?
When the light in the stream strikes the boundary between the water and air,
much of the light is reflected back into the stream. The light continues this
internal reflection all along the arc formed by the falling water. The same
principle is used to transmit light signals through flexible optical fibers.
A Candle That Sucks Water
Place a candle upright in the middle of a saucer. Fill the saucer with water. Light
the candle. Place a glass over the candle. When the flame goes out, the water in
the saucer will get sucked into the glass.
How Does It Work?
When the candle is burning inside the glass, the heat makes the air expand, so
some of the air escapes outside the glass. The candle goes out after it uses up
all the oxygen, so the air inside the glass cools. As it cools, the pressure inside
the glass drops. Some of the carbon dioxide formed by the flame dissolves in the
water as well, decreasing the pressure even more. The water outside the glass
on the saucer is forced into the glass by the higher aire pressure outside.
