SPEAKING SCRIPTS
Welcome to the speaking portion of IELTS exam. My name is Tran. I will be your
examiner for this part of the test. It has three parts I will give you instructions for
each and I’m recording it for marking purposes. To begin I will ask you a few
questions to get to know you better, and some questions on a general topic.
Trân: What is your full name?
Ngọc: My first name is Ngọc . Please call me Ngọc.
Trân: Okey Ngọc. May I see your student identification, please?
Ngọc: Yes, here it is. Please, take a look.
PART 1
Trân: What type of movie is it?
Ngọc: Actually, Game of Thrones is not a movie but a fantasy drama TV series. It
combines elements of medieval history, political intrigue, and epic battles.
Trân: Who was it directed by?
Ngọc: Since it’s a series, multiple directors worked on it, including David Benioff
and D.B. Weiss, who were also the showrunners.
Trân: Who stars in the movie?
Ngọc:The main cast includes Emilia Clarke as Daenerys Targaryen, Kit Harington
as Jon Snow, Lena Headey as Cersei Lannister, and Peter Dinklage as Tyrion
Lannister.
Trân: What is the plot of the movie?
Ngọc: The story is about the struggle for power among noble families in the
fictional continents of Westeros and Essos. It also features themes of loyalty,
betrayal, and the looming threat of an undead army.
Ngọc: Where and when is it set?
Trân: It’s set in a fictional, medieval-inspired world with castles, kingdoms, and a
complex society. The exact timeline is not specified, but it has a historical, ancient
vibe.
Ngọc: Is it based on a true story or a novel?
Trân: It’s based on the A Song of Ice and Fire series by George R.R. Martin,
though the TV show diverges from the books in the later seasons.
Ngọc: Does it have good special effects and a good soundtrack?
Trân: Definitely! The visual effects, especially for the dragons and battle scenes,
are spectacular. The soundtrack, composed by Ramin Djawadi, is iconic and adds
to the epic feel of the series.
Ngọc: Was the movie shown with subtitles or was it dubbed?
Trân: Game of Thrones was originally in English, but it was dubbed into many
languages and also shown with subtitles worldwide to cater to its massive
audience.
PART 2
Two men have been arrested in Carroll, Iowa and charged with attempted burglary.
Matthew McNelly, 23, and Joey Miller, 20, were caught after neighbors called 911
and said that two men were trying to break into an apartment. When police officers
arrived at the apartment building, they asked witnesses what the men looked like.
They said the men were wearing masks and black sweatshirts, and another witness
told police they had driven away in a white car: But when police spotted the white
car shortly after and stopped it, they were amazed by what they saw. Instead of
wearing real masks, the two burglars had drawn masks and beards on their faces
with permanent black marker pen to hide their identities. One witness told
reporters it was the worst disguise ever. It seems that, ironically, the "masks" were
inspired by fictional crime-fighting superhero, Batman. A legal expert said the pair
would appear in court in a few weeks with their lawyers, and they would be
charged with attempted burglary. Reporters asked the lawyers if they could
comment on the case, but they did not respond.
PART 3
Ngọc: Do you enjoy walking as a way to keep active?
Trân: Yes, I do enjoy walking as a way to stay active. It’s a simple, low-impact
activity that requires no special equipment and can be done almost anywhere.
Walking helps me clear my mind and relax while also benefiting my physical
health. For instance, I usually go for a walk in the park near my house every
evening. It’s a refreshing break from my day and a great way to maintain my
fitness.
Trân: Have you ever used a pedometer, or would you like to try one?
Ngọc: Yes, I’ve used a pedometer before, and I found it quite helpful. It motivated
me to set daily step goals and stay consistent with my walking routine. Seeing the
number of steps on the device gave me a sense of accomplishment. However, I
don’t use one regularly now. I think I’d like to try using one again, especially with
the advanced features in fitness apps and smartwatches nowadays—they’re a great
way to track overall health.
Ngọc: Is exercising with a friend or partner a good idea?
Trân: Absolutely, exercising with a friend or partner is a fantastic idea. It not only
makes the activity more enjoyable but also provides accountability and motivation.
For example, when I go jogging with my friend, we encourage each other to keep
going even when we feel tired. Additionally, having someone to talk to during
exercise makes it feel less like a chore and more like a social activity, which helps
build a routine.
