Task 2: Health and safety morals
Nothing was ethical about how Kitchen Craft managed health and
safety; the following reasons are a clear testimony that it was
appalling: Below are some key aspects where the owner's approach
was morally flawed:
Work assigned without training:
The workers were compelled to work with complex equipment like the
scissor lift and had no training. Lack of training for such work is a major
cause of giant mishaps because the employees do not grasp the
potential dangers or the measures required when carrying out their
functions using these tools. There is also a lack of training; this is very
dangerous because the workers will be stuck and may not even know the
right procedure to take in case of an accident.
Pressure to work under unsafe conditions:
The owner set strict schedules for the wall preparation work, which the
workers had to undertake while working in a high-risk category. Working
conditions were equally unfavorable; carrying out the task in extreme
heat and employing insecure equipment only worsened the situation.
Workers felt they had to work under time constraints, and due to

Task 5: Identification of job factors
The job factors which cause the accident have been discussed below in
detail:
Task Complexity
Wall preparation task also involved a sequence of
activities like cleaning, repairing and painting that in
order to accomplish, definite equipment’s and skills are
necessary which makes the task more complicated.
and lastly, when working at height next to a busy road as
is the case with this business made the job even more
complicated with many risks involved.
Equipment Condition
The scissor lift was in an unpleasant condition, with
evident traces of rust and lots of wear.
The gate clasp was in very bad condition, so it broke, leading to
Worker C's fall.

Task 7: Technical and administrative control measures
7 (a)
Here below some technical control measures have been mentioned:
Ground Task Completed through Manhandling
In essence, work could be done from the ground using long
handed extension rollers instead of having to create working
platforms. Manual handling risks should also be controlled by
the use of lightweight and ergonomic tools.
Implementation of Protective Processes to Shielding of Operating Area
The work space should be protected from possible pedestrians
and vehicles using cones and barricades that give clear signals
of a work in progress.

Task 8: Health and safety auditing, and active monitoring
8 (a)
Worker B can explain why an organization conducts a
health and safety audit by making the following
observations, stating how audits might actually contribute
to the satisfaction of each observation:
• Identify risks and evaluate risk: A health and safety
audit helps one discover the dangers that are not readily
apparent, such as dangerous equipment or an unhealthy
working condition. In this case, the scissor lift had rust
and illegible control marks, hence presenting a danger
that would otherwise have not been detected by Worker B
or Worker C if inspection was not carried out in an
organized manner.
An audit would identify these dangers and ensure that all
equipment was safe to be used and also ensured that all
proper maintenance and training were in place. This
exercise would lead to the production of a safer
environment with less potential for future incidences.
