DIGITAL LITERACY ON ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE
According to Atoy et al. (2020) maintained, digital literacy is when university students can successfully
use, evaluate, and produce information from online sources. In this sense, the students in this study who
better manage the digital literacy skills have pertinent ways of navigating and utilizing the available tools
through which they can retrieve information more effectively. The conducting of multifaceted exercises
by educators is encouraged to boost the digital literacy skills that are very essential in the academic
disciplines. Secondly, findings indicated significant importance about mindfulness in online searching
strategies. The mindful student conducts the online search more thoughtfully and effectively, thus
bringing better output in their work.
Thus, in essence, findings suggest an interrelationship between digital literacy and mindfulness;
therefore, both aspects are strongly underscored in the context of effective information-seeking
behavior and overall academic achievement. Integration of training in digital literacy within a university
curriculum will make an academic better at succeeding in an increasingly digital world by also developing
the skills vital to the practice of future careers.

According to Romi, (2024), “digital skills refer to the ability of learners to effectively use, analyze,
evaluate, and produce technology-driven media and resources in support of learning, work, and leisure
activities.” In this direction, digital skills for students ought to be encouraged in designing interesting
exercises by university instructors, which ultimately becomes an essential factor for better academic
performances by the same. Students from the universities would be better equipped to face the various
anomalies thrown at them by a technologically governed society, which will carry with it high levels of
fluency in digital skills. Besides the fundamental software applications like Microsoft Office and the
different varieties of learning management systems, students can also express their digital literacy in an
interesting manner through images, videos, or other formats essentially embedded in the educational
process of students. Besides this, as mentioned in the study, instillation of digital skills training within the
university curriculum holds further importance for enhancing overall university experiences. Thus, this
integration supports the acquiring of basic digital literacy that is in essence fundamental for academic
success and also cultivates critical thinking and reflection skills, which assist learners to make an
appraisal of the credibility of information as well as synthesize data from various digital sources. “Romi’s”
findings point out that students with advanced digital skills perform significantly better at academics and
therefore underpin the addition of training in digital skills within higher education curricula.

As noted by Cornillez Jr. (2024), digital literacy defined an ability with students to search, critically
evaluate, and produce information online. In this sense, a well-qualified strong student in digital literacy
should better navigate the presently available tools to more readily draw on information.” The expert
recommends that educators should come up with various forms of exercises enhancing digital literacy,
which is very pertinent for all the areas of study. The findings also place an emphasis on mindfulness in
search strategies undertaken online and they show that more thoughtful and intentional students
produce better academic outcomes when going about online searching.
Thus, this research emphasizes the interlinkage of digital literacy with mindfulness in these respects,
underlining the importance to the information-seeking behavior or general performance of students.
The scope of digital literacy training should therefore be incorporated into university curricula as
preparation for students to navigate and grow in the emerging landscape while providing them with the
necessary skills for the job market.

In the study by Liwosz and Ślusarska, (2023) it is explored how academic flow relates to digital literacy
and self-regulated learning. The central point of the argument of the study is that improving digital
literacy and self-regulation could significantly improve scholars’ academic achievements. According to
the study, improving digital literacy and self-regulation are the most significant factors that would
positively affect the process and outcome of students’ learning process.
The research shows that these areas can be leveraged by the educators in making effective formulation
of strategy to improve educational practice and help students perform better. This basic understanding
may hence be used as the point of departure for further research and recommendations on the
integration of such skills into educational frameworks to promote better student performance.
