Salvador F. Bernal was born on January 7, 1945 in Dagupan, Philippines, He was died on October
26, 2011 at the age of 66.
Bernal actually started studying architecture in Ateneo de Manila and earned a philosophy
degree in 1966, where he would later teach literature and stage design.
He his known as the “Father of Philippine Theater Design” Bernal’s career began in 1969.
His output included over 300 productions, Not just theater, but also in opera, dance, and even
film and Because of his unique style and passion he earned the award of National Artist for
Theater and Design in 2003. Through his work, he showed everyone that Filipino design is
something we should be proud of.
Some of his famous productions included The Tales of the Manuvu, Rama Hari, and Florante at
Laura.
