Give the meaning of pH and buffer. A buffer is an element or combination of substances that, by nature of their existence in the solution, resist changes in pH caused by the addition of small amounts of acid or alkali. We use pH, a scale that utilizes logarithms, to measure how basic or acidic a liquid solution is. 2. Give the importance of pH. The pH of a solution of something or a product reflects its chemical makeup and surrounding conditions, making it an essential factor. It can regulate the biochemical reactions occurring inside living things, the activity of microbes, the transportation of vital nutrients, the behavior of enzymes and other chemical genera, and the ideal conditions under which different chemical species can thrive. 3. Why is it that the pH of body fluids like blood remains virtually constant? In order to prevent significant changes in the pH of our blood, our body contains multiple autonomous regulatory mechanisms, or "homeostatic systems,” that work together. Acid-base buffer systems are one of the body's strategies for controlling pH. The ability to stabilize pH in an aqueous solution is the function of buffers. When blood pH is excessively acidic, alkaline (base) buffers are released into the bloodstream, and vice versa, acidic buffers are activated when blood pH is too alkaline. 4, Calculate the [H®] and [OH] of a solution with pH 5.6 me be 7 Cow): ee Slot [5x CH} 2 10?
