Flower Power Bag

Yarn:
Worsted or aran weight cotton yarn like Lily
Sugar'n Cream or Drops Paris, or any similar
yarn. This is made with Sugar'n Cream in the
color Flower Power, which make great stripes.

Needles:
5 double pointed needles size 5mm (US 8)
Optional: 40 cm (16 inches) circular needle
size 5mm (US8)

Gauge:
Not important, as the bag stretches alot
anyway.

CO:

Cast on 4 sts, divide them onto two needles and join in the round (you can divide
them onto the four needles right away, but I find it alot easier to work with just
three needles at this point).

Bottom:

1. row: kfb on all four sts, using one needle for each of the original 4 sts, so you
end up with four needles with two sts on each needle. These four needles help
you form the bottom of the bag.
2. row: k1, kfb, repeat this for each needle. 12 sts total.
3. row: k1, kfb, k1, repeat this for each needle. 16 sts total.
4. row: knit all sts
5. row: k1, kfb, kfb, k1, repeat this for each needle. 24 sts total.
6. row: knit all sts
7. row: k1, kfb, knit to the last two sts on the needle, kfb, k1. Repeat this for each
needle.
8. row: knit all sts

Repeat row 7 and 8 until you have 18 sts on

each needle, which makes a total of 72 sts.
Body:

Switch to the circular needle if you want to, or continue with the dpns.
Knit around for about 15 cm or 6 inches, or until the bag is the size you want.
Remember: it stretches a bit.

Tip: when I knit around and around on dpns, I always knit one or two sts extra
from the next needle on each needle so I don't get «gaps» or marks between where
the needles have been. This is much easier when you use a set of 5 dpns instead of
4.

Handle:

Bind off 9 sts, k27 sts and put them on a separate needle or stitch holder, bind off
the next 9 sts, k27.

Continue with the last 27 sts like this:

1. row (WS): p1, p2tog, p to end

2. row (RS): k1, k2tog, k to end

Repeat these two rows until you have 8 sts left,

ending with a WS.

Continue in stockinette st knitting the right sides and

purling the wrong sides. Pull and stretch the strap as
you go to get an idea of how long it will be. Knit until
the strap is about 40 cm/16 inches when stretched
from the point where you had 8 sts left, or as long as
you want it. Remember that the more you've got in
the bag, the more it stretches! End with a RS. Cut the
yarn leaving a tail big enough to fasten and weave in
the end. Do not bind off.

Work the other strap in the same way, but do not cut yarn, as you need it to bind
off.

With the right sides facing each other, do a three-needle bind off (for help, see
http://www.knittinghelp.com/videos/casting-off).

Fasten, weave in ends and voila!
