Summary

PREVIOUSLY TITLED 'Spider-man and The Black Cat arrested in scuffle with avengers
at Times Square'

---

There were three ways people were seeing the current situation, which could easily be
summarised in three headlines.

"SPIDER-MENACE ARRESTED - LAST SEEN CONSPIRING WITH CAT-THEMED

CRIMINAL" - for the people who couldn't see the truth

"Forbidden Romance! NYC's Wall-crawler and Cat Burglar show touching romantic
display after being apprehended." - for the people who shyed away from violence, but
strayed towards gossip.

"Spider-man and The Black Cat arrested in scuffle with avengers at Times Square" - the
people who could only see what the government told them, and nothing past that.

But there was a sub-category of all these people.

Those who took to social media.

---

Long story short, my boy peter just wanted to propose to felicia, but the avengers fumbled it
(as always)

Notes

PREVIOUSLY TITLED 'Spider-man and The Black Cat arrested in scuffle with avengers
at Times Square'

before anyone asks!!! this is a mixed media spider-man take! I will be combining stuff from
the comics and elements from the mcu.

If you've read the tags, I want to preface this by saying I'm not one of those authors thats
like 'oh and btw peter used to be hydra but he escaped when he was 13 blah blah blah'
because I feel you knowing about his backstory prematurely ruins the tone I'm trying to set,
so all in due time.

That's pretty much all of it, thank you!

Chapter 1

Tony felt like he was going to fall asleep at any moment now.

And no, it wasn't because he has been awake for almost 52 hours. It was from the sheer boredom
SHIELD briefings caused.

Even the Iced Americano looked ready to go back into cryofreeze! (Tony would gladly put him in
if he asked)

Tuning back into the conversation, he discarded those intrusive thoughts.

"On another note, we do infact have a mission for you all."

Finally. A good probably-dangerous mission since it was for the whole team. (albiet, he thought
the boredom would kill him first.)

Nick Fury clicked a button on the remote he was holding and the slide on the projector.

Apparently using tech from cap's time was more 'secure' than tony's specialised equipment (go on
and just ignore the fact he has a tech company. typical Fury.)

"We need you to apprehend the individual known as Spider-man."

"Hold on-" Sam cut in. "I thought this guy helped grandmas cross the road, and save kittens from
trees."

"Yeah, what makes him a big enough threat to get on our radar?" Tony thought now was the
appropriate time to speak up.

"He is an enhanced individual who has refused to register with SHIELD, and is currently operating
as an illegal vigilante. Is that enough for you?" Ross questioned the group.

Steve thought it right to cut in at that moment "Well yes, he's doing something illegal but-"

"Great we're all happy then." Director Fury finished.

"You will send two of you team out to capture the individual and bring him back." Thaddeus
looked around the room. "You will be supplied with tranquilisers to shoot on sight, and yes Barton,
we have made them into an arrow form."

"Bring him back alive, and don't allow him to slip through your fingers."

With that, Ross and Fury took their leave.

Silence was left in the conference room.

"So did anyone else think that was fishy or what?" Sam piped up.

"Yeah, It seems like they've dealt with him before if they're instructing us to immediately shoot
him, instead of trying to rationalise first." Natasha responded. "This... I have a bad feeling about
this."
"Well I say we get on with it, faster we do it, faster SHIELD gets off our asses."

"I don't know Tony." and of course the freeze-pop had to open his mouth.

"Well it's not as if we can refuse, anyways I think Nat and Katniss should go."

"I was already planning on it," she smirked "and don't call me Nat."

Peter was nervous.

Today was the day.

He had finally mustered up enough courage to buy the ring.

Said ring was now held tightly in his hand, his grip was so strong he thought he might snap it.

It was a beautiful Gold band with an emerald in the centre, cut into the shape of a heart.

Yes it was cheesy but it was the same ring he had caught Felicia staring at so often whenever they
would pass that one jewellery store on their nighttime ‘walks’. Peter would always get confused at
the fact she was the best burglar in New York, if not the world, and instead of taking the ring for
herself she would just long after it.

He’s not complaining about it, he’s glad she’s cut down on the unnecessary stealing, and sort of
become the modern-day robin hood, by stealing from the rich and redistributing their wealth to the
less-fortunate.

eter, Peter are you listening?”

He glanced up at Felicia, who was sitting across from him.

They were both sat atop the Empire State building, having finished a pizza between the two of
them, and were just talking to each other, enjoying one another’s company.

”Oh, uh yeah sorry I’m just nervous”

She let out a snort, and lightly punched his arm.

”Your so silly, why would you be nervous? Don’t tell me your afraid of heights.”

”No its not that its just…” he trailed off. Standing up, and fiddling around with the ring still in his
hand.

She tilted her head, frowning slightly.

”Petey, are you alright?”

”Um yeah, I’m,”

He glanced over at her, took a deep breath to calm himself down, and dropped to one knee.

“I thought this was going to be fun.”

”Clint, missions aren’t supposed to be ‘fun’”

”Yeah but he’s just sitting around and eating pizza with some cat-lady”

Natasha sighed. Clint was her best friend but he could be a pain sometimes.

Spotting the red-and-blue figure move she repositioned her binoculars for a better view.

”Get the tranq ready.”

”Mhm”

She looked adjusted the settings, to get a clearer picture.

Spider-man on one knee.

Something shiny in his hands.

”Oh Shit.”

Yall I'm so sorry for not updating, i'll explain at the end notes.

“I know it’s not that special, or glamorous, but I’ve seen you staring at it Cat, and-“

“Peter.” she gaped.

“-you know that i know you love green and-“

“Peter.” she smiled.

He looked up, eyes wide, scared to disappoint.

“It’s perfect.”

Grins spread across both of their faces, and Peter jumped up in order to wrap his arms around her.

They laughed together, as he twirled them both around.

Something felt wrong though.

“You know…” he started, feeling the low hum of his spider-sense, “you still haven’t said yes or no
yet?”

(That had to be it?)

“Hmm,” she purred, as he lowered her down. She looked at him (as much as he liked to pretend
their one-inch height difference was drastic, it really wasn’t). Grabbing his face, she brought him
closer, and smiled a genuine smile, one that crinkled the corners of her eyes, and replied, “Who
would ever pass you up Tiger?” Rolling up his mask, he wasted no time in crashing their lips
together.

(Right?)

She kissed him back.

”Fuck this.”

The redhead threw her binoculars down in frustration.

“What, what happened?”

Natasha groaned, and buried her head in her hands.

“Nothing much, just Spider-man proposing to a fucking criminal.”

“What?! Give me those.” Clint said, dropping his bow to the ground, and snatching the discarded
binoculars up, peering through them, trying to spot the blurry figures.

"Oh my god."

"What? What's happening?" Natasha furrowed her eyebrows.

"I thought you were joking."

"Tell me why I would joke about this."

"Because it's you."

She folded her arms, and raised a brow. "Do I even, remotely, look like someone who would find
that funny."

"I would say yes, but i don't want a repeat of Bucharest."

"No, we've talked about this, it's Bucharest. Like, the s is a sh sound."

"I know how to pronounce Bucharest, Nat."

"Do you?"

"What were we talking about?"

"I don't know, it's almost as if you got us off-topic while on a mission." she replied, sarcasm
evident in her tone, "Again."

"Me?"

"Whatever, just tranq them both, we'll get Fury to deal with it."

"Are you sure? I mean, what has she-?"

"She's burgled multiple millions of dollars worth of art, jewellery, and more."

He nodded, "Fury can deal with it. Pass me my bow"

His spidey-sense was still humming, no, it had gotten louder.

Felicia pulled away, face full of concern.

"You alright Tiger? You're tense."

"I-"

He looked around wildly.

(Where is it?)

(Down?)

He looked over the roofs ledge, towards New York's infamous traffic. The passersby never
suspecting the vigilante's gaze from above.

(Around?)

His breathing was erratic, and Felicia's voice was just background noise.

His senses blared.

(UP.)

(CATCH.)

His arm moved almost robotically to catch...

(An arrow?)

It's the 21st century, who's using-

Oh.

Oh.

"Felicia." he said, not even looking behind him to where his fiance was, and snapping the arrow
over his knee, from where it was before, mere milimeters from his head.

"Run."

Chapter 3
Chapter Notes

See the end of the chapter for notes

The sinking feeling in her stomach wouldn't go away.

With the Registration act, Felicia knew that the government coming for them would be inevitable.

She just didn't think that it would happen so soon.

Her heart pounded in her chest, as she ran across the rooftops.

She loved the adrenaline in their relationship, it was the thing that made her gravitate towards him
at the start.

But this was wrong.

It was all wrong.

"Fuck." she breathed out, stopping to reach down.

She had dropped her ring.

Picking it up, and slipping it back on, she tried to catch her breath. She could see the Times Square
billboard's from her position on the apartment complex's roof.

"Come on," she reassured herself, "Just gotta make it somewhere public. They can't arrest you
there."

"If you say so."

Peter was actually having a good day before this.

Seriously, does the government always have to ruin his life?

(duck.)

Yet here he is, fighting Black Widow, while Hawkeye just stands there holding his bow and arrow.

Seriously, Peter thought, didn't this guy also get assassin training, why does he insist on not using
hand-to-hand combat.

Makes his job easier though, he acknowledged, grabbing a well-aimed kick to his head, and using
it to topple the woman's balance.

"Just come with us Spiderman," she began, "Don't fight it, we've already got someone chasing your
little girlfriend."

"First of all, she's my fiance." he remarked.

"Do you seriously think you can outrun the government?" Barton questioned, aiming another arrow
at him, as the two spider-themed heroes circled each-other.
Black Widow ran to attack him.

"Why not? I've done it before." He responded, before his spider-sense blared.

She was holding a fucking knife.

"Didn't know we were playing dirty."

"Plans change."

"And who exactly are you?"

"Seriously?"

"I've been out off the loop, sorry for not knowing the name of every furry in your scout club."

"I don't think you're in the position to call anyone a furry." the man challenged, "Besides." he said,
an array of metal wings bursting from his back.

"I'm a bird."

"Oh, well don't you know?" she queried, stepping onto the ledge of the building, and turning so she
could face the Falcon.

"Know what?"

"Cats have fun chasing birds."

She leapt off the roof.

Sam Wilson held his earpiece.

"She's heading towards you."

"I've got it." the man on the other end replied, revving up his motorbike.

She had got him, right in his shoulder.

Not that it had mattered, it was either that or have him on the receiving end of a tranquiliser.

Small victories can bring big rewards, he thought as he grabbed the redhead, and held the arrow
against her throat.

"Listen, you either let me go or I stab her through her trachea." he threatened.

Not that he would actually do it.

Maybe.

"I thought you were a saving kittens from trees type of guy." the man said.

"Same here." the woman choked out, struggling in his grasp.

"And I thought you guys weren't SHIELD lapdogs, but here we are."
"We were given a mission, this is our job."

"Oh really," he replied, "Because you really didn't think twice about this job. So what else have
you done? Have you captured small children? Have you killed people's parents? Oh but thats fine,
because it was your mission, wasn't it?"

"That's not the same thing."

"Oh? Oh it isn't?" he mocked. "No it isn't because that was just you carrying out orders. Wasn't it?"

"HYDRA's orders. We're different, we've reformed."

"Of course, you went from taking orders from an evil organisation to taking orders from an
organisation infiltrated by your former one."

He stabbed the arrow into the Widow's neck, making sure it didn't go in too deep, before running
off to find Felicia.

Hawkeye knelt over his friend, calling for back-up.

SHIELD had probably heard the entire ordeal.

Good.

Let them question themselves.

It's hard to outrun a motorbike.

But she didn't have a long distance left.

She could hear the engine getting louder, as she ran up the fire escape on the edge of some shop
near the city centre.

As soon as he caught up it would be a footchase.

She just hoped Peter would be the one to find her first.

Her legs felt as if they were on fire, and a stitch had formed in her side.

She wasn't going to be able to run much longer. Her eyes darted around the rooftop she was on. She
could hide behind the vents protruding upwards, or go behind the staircase.

She looked backwards, and caught a glint of metal in the distance.

Fuck it.

She broke down the door and ran through an apartment complex.

Shit.

So many people were going to see her.

This was definitely God’s punishment for stealing. Ignore the fact she’s an athiest.

This is getting ridiculous, Bucky thought as he sped through the night atop his motorbike.
Seriously, he wasn’t even supposed to be involved in this mission, Clint and Natasha were
supposed to have finished an hour ago.

But here he was chasing down the Black Cat on a Friday evening, instead of having one of his
impromptu therapy sessions with Steve (which mainly consisted of them catching up on pop
culture moments).

He leapt off his bike and climbed up a fire escape he had seen the woman on moments before.

A sharp pain erupted in the back of his head and he blacked out.

Chapter 4
Chapter Notes

Hello! Sorry for the wait <3

See the end of the chapter for more notes

"What the fuck Peter." Felicia hissed.

"It's not the worst thing I've done," he said whilst throwing the pipe to the ground, and grabbing
her arm, the grip was gentle but hard enough for him to steer her towards where he wanted. "Come
on, we've gotta go."

"Go where?" she whispered to him, as they crept through New York's back alleys in an effort to
avoid security cameras.

Felicia scrunched her nose in disgust at the sight of rubbish strewn everywhere, the stench of the
same garbage, and the sound of rats squeaking, the itch of their nails as they scurried about.

“I know a guy, who knows a guy, who stabbed a guy.”

“And that’s relevant because…?”

“Because on one of these rooftops is a helipad that a helicopter will pick us up on in about…” he
pulled a burner phone out of nowhere, (seriously where were the pockets on his suit?) and checked
the messages, “ten minutes.”

“Ten minutes? Peter the whole of the avengers could’ve assembled in that time.”

“I know, but it’s the only chance we have.”

"I still don't get how you have a helicopter on speed-dial."

"It was this or various organs of his that he couldn't sell in time and were expiring soon."

"Wait organ-trial guy? He was really nice, didn't expect black-market deals from him."

"I'm not even going to question how you think he's nice."

They came to a stop in front of a ladder.

“You climb, I’ll wallcrawl.”

She gave him a curt nod, and gripped the ladder whilst it creaked beneath her, the added pressure
to the already rickety contraption didn’t look promising.
Felicia glanced up once again at the building, doubt filled her mind as she took in the true height
she would have to climb in order to (maybe) reach safety.
(Safety that wasn’t even guaranteed to last that long.)
She began the climb.
Just as she had anticipated, her hands were burning through her gloves from the repetitive motion
of gripping the ladder’s rusty rungs.

While some people love to believe that all superpowered-individuals were immune to becoming
tired unlike ‘regular’ humans, Felicia knew that was far from the truth. All of the times Peter
would come back from patrol and not even make it to the sofa before he crashed and slept on the
floor was an example of just that. (She always made sure there were blankets and pillows by the
window for just that purpose.)

Now was another example of this.

She didn’t know who he had fought but the way he was struggling to breathe as he scaled the wall
beside her told her what she needed to know.
She fumbled as she went to grab the next rung, the rain from the day before combined with the
blood on her hands (literally and metaphorically) caused her to slip.

“Shit,” Steve muttered under his breath as he saw the familiar red web-patterned boots through the
computer screen he had hooked up to Buck’s body-cam.

He rarely swore, a lesson his mother had taught him that he cherished along with other memories
of her he held dear to his heart.

This was one of those times though, he worried, not only for his teammates, but, strangely enough,
for the two on the other side.
He had always been told he has too much empathy for people, despite knocking down enemies in
the field, he still saw some of them as fathers and mothers, brothers and sisters. Simply people
following orders without any greater knowledge.

This time, the other side wasn’t evil, and there were certainly no workers who were blindly
following orders without any greater knowledge.

He didn’t want to think about him and his teammates, how instead of there being a small amount of
people against a large evil force, it was a large organisation going up against a small amount of
people.
He tried to stop himself thinking about the implications of that.

Of who was really blindly following orders.

(GRAB. DOWN.)

It blared again, the warning he had become accustomed to feeling.

Without question he let his arm out, his hand awaiting something.

“You alright?” He asked, latching onto Felicia’s hand.

(Her bloody hands)

She stared up at him, nodding silently.

He smiled at her, “Okay, you’re good, don’t worry.”.

He didn’t like lying to her, but he doesn’t need her to worry.

He helped her back onto the ladder and they resumed the climb.

There was a problem.

"Does Parker Luck pass to you if you marry into it?", Felicia tried to make light of the situation.

There was a massive chunk of the ladder missing.

Sort of ironic that it was from a fight with the Vulture.

A fight that happened six months ago.

'Seriously, what the fuck happens with my tax money IRS' Peter contemplated silently.

Peter simply let out a sigh of frustration.

He elbowed open an already-cracked window.

Felicia stared at him in disgust, her nose wrinkled slightly in the way Peter loved.

It was a mockery of the stealth needed for breaking and entering.

He turned his head to face her after elbowing it, the whites of the eyes on his mask conveying his
emotions in an eerily-accurate way.

"It's not like they're gonna fix it anyways."

She rolled her eyes, but not being able to conceal the smile on her face as she climbed in after him.

What she didn't roll her eyes at was the sight she got from behind Peter.

'Goddamn.'

She gave him some extra help getting inside, and savoured the way Peter turned to face her, as he
rose from the ground, an expression of tired disappointment clear, even with the mask covering his
face.

She gave him a wry smile and innocently held her hands up in a mock-arrest.

"What?"

He didn't reply, just letting out a short sigh, and turning around, starting to walk towards the stairs.

She let out a short giggle and followed him.

Under the mask, Peter let himself smile at her happiness.
