Basic Electrical and Electronic Symbols

I. Learning Competency with Code

 Describe and illustrate the different electronic symbols

II. Background Information for Learners

Symbols has been used by the people in different subjects, disciplines

societies or even generations. They provide us clues to understand the
experiences by conveying recognizable meanings that are shared by societies.
Everyday and everywhere we can find symbols. Some of them are there to
guide, regulate, warn and many more. Same is true in Electronics and Robotics
where these symbols are used to represent components and set up of an entire
electrical or electronic diagrams.

Electrical symbols are a graphical representation of basic electrical and

electronic devices or components. It is also called a schematic symbol. Each
component has typical functionality according to its operational characteristics
(Madhusoodan, 2021 )

There are many national and international standards for defining the
electrical and electronic symbols such as, IEC, NEMA, JIC, ANSE and many
more. Below are the common electrical symbols use in and electrical or
electronic diagram.
