1914 - 1918
1.1 Causes 1
·The Bismarckian (Otto von Bismarck) system; Following the German Unification
(1871), Germany wished to control all political conflicts. Why? To isolate France who wanted
to recover Alsace and Lorraine and to maintain the balance in Balkans where both Russia
and Austria competed to manage that region and avoid a war in the balkan anga. (Evitar
guerras creando alianzas)

That is why Bismarck organized a series of multiple defensive agreements among:


-Germany
-Austria
-Russia
-Italy
·The Armed peace; however the new German Emperor, Wilhelm II (1888), was more
aggressive. The European powers organised alliances and a race to increase the quantity of
weapons and soldiers.

·Causes II that increase instability;

+New countries: A security belt in eastern europe
