CHAPTER 1
INTRODUCTION
This section should include the following: introduction, literature review, methodology,
organization, references, additional sections will include hypotheses, assumptions,
limitations, definitions.
BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
Social media and our devices play an important role in our lives, gradually increasing
recognition since its release. The researchers of this topic conducted this study for the
purpose of delving deeper into adolescent’s minds; to find out how much social media
has brought an impact to one's actions, way of thinking, psychological understanding, and
mental development. X Hemingway students have observed how social media have
helped their peers be more free and openly expressive and improved their social skills
development, moreover social media has served as an emotional support network for
mentally challenged individuals with its limitless support system and positive individuals
online that share their experiences and help one another to recover and improve.
However, observable negative impact of social media on an adolescent’s psychological
well-being, self-esteem & social connectivity is increased anxiety, decreased self-esteem,
mood swings, depression, and unhealthy escapism. Social indicators are social isolation,
reduced empathy, altered relationships, social comparison, and decreased
communication skills. With an average screen time exceeding 4-6 hours daily, these
devices have left a deep impact and impression on their overall self with their frequency
and duration of social media use. With their fame online defining them as an individual
(number of followers, likes and comments etc.).
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
This study aims to determine its impact on the psychological health condition of Grade 10
students at Taguig Integrated School. Specifically, this research seeks to answer the
following questions:
• Are there any severe cases of depression and anxiety because of social media in
grade-10 Hemingway?
• What possible risks are there if students are exposed to too much access online?
• What are the students' biggest concerns regarding social media awareness?
• What are the challenges of the school staff regarding students’ health?
• Is there a significant relationship between the social media online and the well-
being of Grade 10-Hemingway students at Taguig Integrated School?
• Based on the findings of the study, what is the proposed plan for a psychologically
challenged adolescent?
•
STATEMENT OF HYPOTHESIS
There is no significant relationship between the actions of a student online and
their attachment to social media platforms and the well-being of Grade 10 Hemingway
students at Taguig Integrated School.
SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
This study aims to inform, educate, aid, and interest individuals that may read this
research
STUDENTS
To familiar and foreign students, present or future will hopefully be aware of how much
social media can impact one’s mental, social, and physical wellbeing and behavior. May
this expose them to the reality of something that seems so harmless at first and hopefully
raise awareness, to aid the developing adolescents in informing themselves.
TEACHERS/EDUCATORS
To those who inform, educate, and nurture a child’s growth in knowledge: may this be
used as a way to familiarize themselves to any of the warning signs mentioned and in the
future help those that are struggling mentally and/or used as a way to improve a child’s
performance by knowing what may be behind the scenes and encouraging the young
bloods.
SCHOOL
For the sake of understanding and improving future generations through educating them,
aiding them, and listening to suggestions related to social media and online use. This
research can serve as a reminder that there is always space for
improvement/adjustments.
FUTURE RESEARCHERS
May this serve as a reference to future researchers with similar curiosities and decisions
on what to research about, a guide to help those in the future generations.
SCOPE AND LIMITATION
This study is centered towards an adolescent’s psychological well-being and their social
connectivity in terms of, analyzing how social media platforms shaped trends,
personalities, and social circles of X-Hemingway in Taguig integrated school in the year
2024-2025(twenty-twenty four to twenty-twenty five). Unfortunately, this research does
not have any respondents, and the following results and source are taken online
sources, gathered from pre-existing research.
The researchers that arranged this inquiry/analysis on “The effects of social media in
mental health: Analyzing psychological well-being, self-esteem & social connectivity”
have observed how the students of X-Hemingway seemed to be deeply
influenced/magnetized by what the online platforms offers to a point where in some cases
it has affected their studies, focus, and ambition in their pursuit of knowledge.
This study’s main objective is to inform readers of methods to focus more on what the
world has to offer rather than what the screen in our hands presents.
