My work environment is always exposing us to both positive and negative

behaviors, and as a nurse, I am constantly exposed to both. One of the excellent

work cultures that I have had the opportunity to experience is one that emphasizes
open communication, constant collaboration, and a particular emphasis on the
health and happiness of the workforce. It is more probable that teams will give good
patient care if they have the sense that they are supported and valued. Healthcare
workers are constantly urged to express their thoughts, discuss their ideas, and
actively engage to the decision-making processes in the setting in which I work.
Both acknowledgment and appreciation are essential elements that contribute to a
great culture in the workplace (White, 2022). Based on my own experience, I believe
positive reinforcement generates a cycle of efficiency and satisfaction, thereby
supporting the concept that every member of the team plays an important part in
the success of the whole of the healthcare company.
On the other hand, I have also been exposed to instances of negative culture, such
as patients yelling, screaming, or using crude language against us, particularly
when the nurse is of Hispanic descent. It is not always the case that acceptable or
professional language is appropriate. I am one of those who share the belief that
working in a nursing atmosphere that is toxic can have negative effects on one's
mental and physical well-being, in addition to resulting in poorer care for patients.
Nevertheless, for the most part, the qualities and situations that I have encountered
throughout my work as a nurse have been more positive than negative.
When a negativity issue arises in the workplace, it is crucial for colleagues and
higher-ranking individuals to take measures to address and resolve it. They can
achieve this by engaging workers or patients and their family members to: ascertain
the underlying cause, collaborate to establish explicit objectives, consistently
provide constructive feedback without assigning blame, elucidate potential
repercussions and maintain thorough documentation, and, most importantly,
contemplate the implementation of mandatory team self-assessments and the
organization of workplace civility training (Longo, 2024).

When a situation involving negativity develops in the working environment,
colleagues and persons in positions of authority must take steps to confront and
resolve it. This can be accomplished by involving employees or patients and their
relatives in order to: determine the root cause, working together on developing
clear goals, consistently offering helpful criticism without assigning fault, clarifying
potential consequences and maintaining accurate records, and, most importantly,
considering the adoption of compulsory team assessments and the arrangement of
respectful workplace education (Longo, 2024).

In the world of nursing practice, healthy workplace behavior is exemplified by the

utilization of effective communication, which entails clarity, respect, timely
communication, and teamwork. Additionally, it involves advocating for constructive
feedback and engaging in active listening. This is apparent in situations where a
nurse is engaging in communication with a physician and providing comprehensive
information regarding the alterations in the patient's state in order to provide timely
and unambiguous interventions. Teamwork and collaboration are essential aspects
of excellent job conduct. It involves collaborating effectively, distributing tasks, and
providing mutual assistance to achieve desired objectives (White, 2022).
