Introduction

Classify whether organism

is alive or not
The process that all living organism
perform to maintain their life is called
life processes.

Here we discuss 4 life processes

which are necessary for maintain the
life.
(1) Nutrition
(2) Respiration
(3) Transportation
(4) Excretion

Raw materials used by organism:

(1) Carbon based molecules ( food ) – To gain
energy
Importance of Moments of molecules : (2)Oxygen – to oxidise food and release energy
(3) Water – to operate functions inside the
body.
So, food, water and oxygen are basic raw
materials which are obtained by organism from
outside their body.

The process in which organism obtain Autotrophic Nutrition
nutrients from food and utilizes them to
obtain energy and for building repairing The mode of nutrition in which organism
their tissues is called Nutrition. prepare their food from simple inorganic
substances like CO2 and H2O in presence
of sunlight is known as Autotrophic mode
of nutrition. Ex : Plants,bacteria…

Requirement of energy is same in all

organism, but it is fulfilled in different
ways.
(1) Some organism use simple food
material obtained from inorganic
substances in the form of CO2 and H2O.
Ex : Plants,green bacteria
(2) Some organism use complex food
material.
- Before use of complex substances it is
broken into simpler ones using
biocatalysts called enzymes
Ex : Animal,fungi,etc.
Events used in photosynthesis :
(i) Absorption of light energy by chlorophyll.
(ii) Conversion of light energy to chemical
energy and splitting of water molecules into
hydrogen and oxygen.
(iii) Reduction of carbon dioxide to
carbohydrates.
These steps are not takes place immediately.
Ex : Desert plants take CO2 at night and
prepare food during the day .

Chloroplasts

The organelles in the cells of the green

plant which contain green pigment
called chloroplasts.
Opening and closing of stomata How plants get other raw materials ?

Heterotrophic Nutrition

In Heterotrophic nutrition ,organisms

cannot prepare food on their own.
These organism are termed as
heterotrophs .
Ex : Human beings,animals,non green
plants
Nutrition in Other organism
- Different organisms have different
digestive system.
- In single celled organism like amoeba,
the food may be taken in by the entire
surface.
- In multicellular organism like there
are specialized cells of organs for the
complete digestion.
Pepsin HCL Mucus
- Enzymes that - Makes the - Protects
breaks down medium acidic inner lining of
proteins stomach
Anaerobic respiration
Draw a flowchart of breakdown of glucose

Difference between Aerobic and Anaerobic Resipiration

Aerobic Respiration Anaerobic Respiration

(1) This process occurs in presence This process occurs in absence of
of oxygen oxygen
(2) Release large amount of energy Release relatively small amount of
energy
(3) Take place in Mitochondria Occurs in Cytoplasm
(4) Each glucose molecule produces Each glucose molecules produces 2
38 Molecules of ATP molecules of ATP
(5) It can be seen in higher organism It can be seen in yeast and parasites.
