BARANGAY VILLA GAMIAO

TITLE:

The Effectiveness of Providing Compost Pit and Making Trashcans through

Recyclable Materials for Proper Segregation

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM:

This study aims to find out the effectiveness of providing compost pit and
making trashcans through recyclable materials for proper segregation at Barangay
Villa Gamiao.
Specifically, it attempted to provide answers to the following questions:
1) How your solution will bring new and revolutionary thought to the issue?
2) How your solution will benefit the university, community, and your users?

INTRODUCTION:

A unique compost pit is an effective solution for segregation organic waste

from other types of waste. By setting up a compost pit tailored to your environment,
you can properly manage kitchen senaps, yard waste, and other biodegradable
materials. This pit promotes the natural decomposition of organic matter, converting it
into nutrient-rich compost. This approach not only helps in reducing the volume of
waste sent to landfills but also enriches the soil, supporting sustainable gardening
practices.
This study is focused on assessing the effectiveness of providing compost pit
and making trashcans through recyclable materials for proper segregation .
This study was limited only to the compost pit and making transhcans through
recyclable materials of Barangay Villa Gamiao. These is 1 month to implement this
study.

BACKGROUND:

Barangay Villa Gamiao is a barangay from San Mateo, Isabela looking back to
its vibrant history it was known before as “Buyon” of what they called. This barangay
is known also to be as a child-friendly barangay, its peaceful barangay but deep down
that quiet area it has a history that well connected to our project, we cannot deny the
fact that trends a trash from some area of this barangay that needed to be clean and by
our project which was called “making trashcans through recyclable materials for
proper segregation ”. it can help a lot to make this barangay be clean and help to its
better progress. As also part of this barangay there’s a drainage before entering that
stand barrier from another barangay they called it as a “water way” and this simple
project from recyclable materials we can be able to create change in this barangay of
Villa Gamiao, San Mateo, Isabela.

NEED:

In the Barangay Villa Gamiao, the issue or improper waste disposal is a

growing concern. Streets are often littered with garbage, and improper waste
management can lead to various environmental and health progress. Piles of
uncollected waste not only create an eyesore but also attract pets, emit foul odors, and
contribute to the spread of disease. The lack of proper garbage disposal facilities is a
significant contributor to this issue, as many residents are left with no choice but to
dump their waste in open or burn it, which further exacerbates environmental
degradation.
To address this, it is essential to introduce sustainable waste management
solutions at the community level. One effective approach is the provision of compost
pits in Barangay Villa Gamiao. Composting organic waste, such as kitchen scraps and
yard debris, not only reduces the amount of waste that ends up in landfills but also
produces valuable compost that can be used to enrich the soil in community gardens
or individual households. Educating residents on how to properly segregate their
waste and encouraging them to use compost pits can significantly decrease the
volume of garbage generated, promoting a cleaner and greener environment.
Another key initiative is the installation of trashcans made of recyclable
materials. By using recyclable materials to manufacture these trashcans, the barangay
can demonstrate a commitment to sustainability and resource conversation. These
trashcans should be strategically placed in public areas, encouraging residents to
dispose of their waste properly. In addition, regular collection and maintenance of
these trashcans should be ensured to prevent overflow and keep the surroundings
clean.
Implementing these measures not only addresses the immediate issue of waste
disposal but also fosters a culture or environment responsibility within the
community. With the active participation of residents and the support of local
government units, barangays can significantly improve their waste management
practices, leading to a cleaner, wealthier, and more sustainable living environment for
everyone.

SOLUTION:
This project aims to address the pressing need for effective ways management
by promoting composting and proper waste segregation through the provision of
compost pits and trashcans made from recyclable materials. This initiative will be
implemented in a phased approach, starting with the construction of compost pits
followed by the production of recyclable trashcans.

PHASE 1: COMPOST PIT CONSTRUCTION

 Timeline: Week 1 – Week 3
 Resources: Local community volunteers, readily available materials
such as wood, bamboo, and soil.
 Implementation: Workshops will be conducted to evaluate residents on
the benefits of composting and the proper techniques for constructing
and maintaining compost pits. Volunteers will be assist in building
compost pits designated areas within the community, ensuring
accessibility for all residents.
PHASE 2: RECYCLABLE TRASHCANS PRODUCTION
 Timeline: Week 4
 Resources: Collected recyclable materials (plastic bottles, metal cans
and cardboard) tools for cutting and assembling, and skilled artisans or
volunteers with basic carpentry skills.
 Implementation: A collection drive for recyclable materials will be
organized, encouraging residents to actively participate in the process.
The collected materials will be sorted, cleaned and processed into
usable components. Skilled artisans will the guide volunteer in
constructing trashcans using these materials
