“What to do during an earthquake?”
If you are indoors, these are the things that you need to do during an earthquake:
Always Stay Calm! If you’re inside, stay there until the shaking stops. (JONATHAN)
Narrator: Staying calm in this situation can help enlighten our minds to the things we
need to remember and do safely in these times.
Apply the Drop, Cover and Hold Technique. (ALEXIS)
Narrator: So, in doing this technique, one has to drop to their hands and knees, cover
the back of the head and neck with one hand and if ever a sturdy table or desk is
nearby, slowly crawl underneath it then hold onto the object that you are under so that
you remained covered.
Stay away from windows and shelves with heavy objects. (JASPER)
Narrator: Staying away from these can help avoid us from getting harmed or injured.
And if possible, you can find sturdy objects like books to cover your head and body from
any falling objects.
If in a commercial building, know the possible exit routes. (JONATHAN)
Narrator: As you know, remembering the exit routes of the place you are in could help
raise your chance of getting out quickly when the shaking stops, so as much as possible
you need to think out your plan of action first.
Don’t run downstairs or rush outside while inside a building or a house. (ALEXIS)
Narrator: Possibility of you getting into an accident is very high and if you stay where
you are, you are less likely to get harmed or injured.
If you are outdoors, these are the things that you need to do during an
earthquake:
Go to an open area away from buildings. (CRISTCILLE)
Narrator: An area near the buildings is the most dangerous place to be in during an
earthquake. There could be falling debris and you don’t want to go near that.
If you’re outside, drop to the ground and stay there until the earthquake stops.
(CRISTCILLE)
Narrator: The impact of an earthquake could be very huge especially if it has a big
magnitude. This could result to people getting knocked down if they won’t drop to the
ground.
If you are in a crowded public place, take cover where you won’t be trampled.
(MATTHEW)
Narrator: During an earthquake, people often run and push each other without realizing
they are hurting someone just so they could save themselves. So, it is best to protect
yourself and always be careful to avoid getting trampled.
Stay away from trees, powerlines and posts. (GLENDALE)
Narrator: Trees, powerlines and posts could fall anytime during an earthquake. It is best
to stay away from it to avoid getting hurt.
Move away from steep slopes. (GLENDALE)
Narrator: Steep slopes can collapse during an earthquake and create damages so going
near it would not be the best idea you could think of.
If you are in a vehicle, these are the things that you need to do during an
earthquake:
Stop the car and stay inside. (FRALIN)
Narrator: The car may shake violently during the earthquake but its hard roof can
protect you from any falling objects so it is best to stay inside and wait for the shaking to
stop.
Avoid bridges, overpasses, underpasses and buildings. (GORIT)
Narrator: As much as possible we need to avoid these passages because there’s a
chance that this concrete structure could collapse and accidents may happen.
Open and listen to your car radio. (SHEENA)
Narrator: It can help you to be informed of the necessary and important information
that the government has given.
Pull over to safe place where you are not blocking the road. (GORIT)
Narrator: Because it can help avoid traffic and by keeping the roads clear it is easier for
emergency and rescue vehicle to pass.
Place a HELP sign in your window if you need assistance. (FRALIN)
Narrator: Using this method could help you get notice easily if someone in your car is in
need of aid, so that it would also be easier for the people to take action and call for
help.
