Types applicable: UAN 16A3C / UAN 08A3B / UAN 32B3C / etc.

Maker: Hyundai Heavy Industries Co. Ltd
Time required: 1 hr
Manpower: 1 person with assistant.

Note: Before starting the job, make sure that the ACB is in OPEN condition.

Procedure:

1. Remove two securing bolts - Allen hexagon screws on either side of the ACB.

2. Turning handle is fixed on the right side enclosure of the ACB. Take out the turning handle as you will
need this for drawing out the ACB.

3. Note the arrow mark of the Indicator showing the present position of ACB contacts. It has three
positions:
a) Isolated
b) Test
c) Connected
Initially the arrow should be on “Connected” position.

4. Press the red “PUSH” button on the ACB in order to insert the turning handle in the slot and to engage
properly with the Draw IN/OUT mechanism.

Keep the button pressed by one hand and insert the turning handle in the slot until you feel that the
tool has engaged. Once the tool is engaged, you can leave the red “PUSH” button and it will remain
pressed if the tool is engaged properly.

5. Start turning the handle anticlockwise and the arrow indication will start moving. Once the arrow
reaches “Test” position, the red “Push” button will pop out and the turning handle will disengage by
itself.

6. Once again press the red “Push” button and engage the turning handle one more time. Again start
turning the handle in anticlockwise direction until the arrow indication reaches “Isolated” position.
Once the arrow reaches “Isolated” position the red “Push” button will pop out again and the handle
will disengage by itself.
In this position ACB contacts are completely disconnected and cleared off from the Bus bar contacts
and you can manually pull the ACB by hand.

7. Pull the ACB out by hand until it stops at one position after travelling a small distance. Now press the
two small black levers on either side of the ACB to unlock the sliding mechanism and then continue
pulling outwards.

8. The ACB will travel a small distance and then it will again stop at one position. This time you have to lift
the ACB assembly upwards from the front side to unlock the last internal lock in the sliding mechanism.
Take the help of an assistant as ACB is quite heavy for one person.
When you are ready with an assistant, grab the front of the ACB and lift up slightly and at the same
time pull a little outwards to clear the last lock.
Now the ACB is completely clear of all the locking mechanisms. Two persons should now carefully pull
the ACB outwards keeping the weight on their hands at all times. Place the ACB gently on a flat surface.

9. Remove the plastic panel on the front by opening two screws on both sides.

10. Now you have access to all internal components. Clean the dust and lubricate the mechanical parts
with suitable machine oil. You can also use WD40 if you don’t have specialized lubricant.
During this process, charge the ACB manually by hand and operate “CLOSE” and “OPEN” switches
several times. This way the lubricant will reach all moving parts and proper functioning of “CLOSE”
and “OPEN” switches will also get checked.

11. For testing of electrical timers and safeties inbuilt in the ACB, you will need special instruments like
signal generators and voltage simulators.

12. After cleaning, maintenance and other checks, fix back the front plastic panel. Install the ACB in the
Switchboard by reversing the steps taken during opening.

Push the ACB in the sliding mechanism as far as it goes by hand. Then press the red “PUSH” button
and insert the turning handle in its slot. When the turning handle engages with the Draw IN/OUT
mechanism, you can leave the “PUSH” button and it will remain pressed.

13. Start turning the handle clockwise to SLIDE-IN the ACB. Same as during coming out, once the arrow
mark reaches “Test” position, the red “PUSH” button will pop out and the turning handle will
disengage.

14. Once again press the red “PUSH” button and start turning clockwise. During sliding the ACB inside,
carefully check that the auxiliary contact surfaces/plates are matching perfectly with their slots.
Similarly check that the locating pins on both sides are perfectly entering the hole.

15. As the ACB is sliding-in, you will feel that the turning handle has become a little stiff to turn. This is
normal as the main ACB contacts are making contact with the Bus bar contacts. Now as the ACB slides
in further, insert and tight 2-3 threads of the securing bolts for better alignment.

16. When the arrow mark reaches “Connected” position, you will hear a clicking noise, the red “PUSH “
button will pop out and the turning handle will disengage. ACB is now fully in place and in contact
with the Bus bar contacts.

17. Firmly tighten the two securing allen bolts on either side.

Congratulations, you have successfully replaced/overhauled the ACB. Check proper operation before
putting the ACB in service.

Additional information and notes:

a) ACB may or may not have self-charging feature depending on its usage and function. You can easily
identify if the ACB is self-charging or manual charging type by the difference in the spring symbol.

b) Another way to identify the self-charging or manual type is that the “self-charging” type ACB will have
control and auxiliary cables on top whereas “manual charging” type ACB will only have power cables.

c) The turning handle can also be used to open and tighten the two securing Allen screws on either side
of the ACB.
