Seeds Germination and Crop Establishment
Objectives
• Explain the importance of seed germination and testing
• Assess the different methods of seed germination test
• Discover the different practices and strategies in Crop Establishment
• Solve numerical problems related to crop establishment
Methodology A. Seeds germination using a petri plate method
Firstly I counted 100 good quality rice seeds before distributing it. After
counting the rice seeds I putted the wet tissue under the plate before putting
the rice seeds then I divided the rice seeds into 2 In the first plate I sowed 50
rice seeds for replication 1 or (RI) then another 50 rice seeds in plate (2) and
then I covered the with another tissue paper and moistened it by dropping a
water. Afterwards I placed it in a secured place then I regularly checked the
experiment to moistened the tissue paper. After 5 days I counted the
seedlings that have shoots and roots. To determine the good and bad rice
seeds.
Result Table1. Percent germination of seeds using petri plate and ragdoll

Treatment Number of seed Number of Dead Percent
Germinated seeds Germination
Petri Plate 85 15 85%
Ragdoll 80 20 80%
Table2. Effect of planting depth on the growth of mungbean

T1 5 2.6 19cm
T2 4 1.8 23cm
T3 5 2.2 25.2cm
Discussion
The table 1 show above the overall percent of the rice seeds using the petri plate
method and ragdoll method. In petri plate method over 100 rice seeds only 85 are
being germinate and 15 of it are dead knowing the percentage of the seeds
germination.
The table 2 shows above the different depth on the growth of mungbean seeds in
T1 the number of seeds germinated 5 out 5 while the days of planting emergence
are 2.6 and the plant height of it are 19cm.
