Ferris ISD Dress Code
Some basics to remember include:
● Shoes must be worn at all times.
● All apparel must fit properly and must be worn in the appropriate manner intended.
● Students may not wear clothing that advertises by name or symbol any products that are
not permitted in schools, including, but not limited to the following: drugs, alcohol,
profanity, suggestive slogans, tobacco, obscenity, violence or gangs.
● Please note that all building administrative decisions regarding student dress are final.
Students who disregard the dress code will be subject to disciplinary actions.
hirts/Outerwear/Sweaters:Shirts must overlap the waistband of pants, skirts, or shorts.

Additionally, clothing which, in the opinion of the professional staff, would be deemed a
distraction to the learning environment or offensive for school in general, shall not be allowed,
including, but not limited to the following: trench coats, halter or tube tops, bare shoulder tops,
see-through clothing, or fishnet tops.
ottoms: Students may wear shorts or skirts of appropriate length, at or about mid-thigh or

longer, when fitted at the natural waistline. Should jeans/pants have frays, rips, or tears above the
mid-thigh (appropriate length of shorts), students must wear leggings underneath the jeans. Yoga
pants, leggings, and jeggings may be worn if the shirt drapes to mid-thigh. Additionally, clothing
which, in the opinion of the professional staff, would be deemed a distraction to the learning
environment or offensive for school in general, shall not be allowed, including, but not limited to
the following: mini-skirts, pajama pants, sagging pants, see-through clothing, or running/spandex
shorts.
hoes: For health reasons, students are required to wear shoes appropriate for the school setting.

House shoes, slippers, flip flops or slides are not appropriate for school.
Other:
● All students must wear appropriate, non-visible undergarments.
● Caps, hats, bandannas, hair rollers, hair curlers, and other similar hair grooming items,
shall not be worn by students in the school building. If students are wearing a shirt or
jacket with a hood or a hoodie, the hood must remain down.

● S tudents may not wear the following: tongue rings, lip rings, eyebrow rings, ear gauges,
spacers, facial jewelry such as hoops or rings, or facial decorations. Students may,
however, wear one small nose stud.
● Hair, by color or design, may not create a distraction to the learning environment. Non-
natural hair color is not permitted.
● FJH & FHS students shall wear their school‐issued ID badge visible and affront on their
person and on the exterior of their clothing so that the ID is always visible on the
chest/upper torso. Students shall immediately provide their ID to FISD staff for
inspection upon request. ID badges should not be altered in any way (covering the
picture, writing, drawing, etc.)
● Face Coverings: Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is for everyone’s protection and to
help mitigate the spread of COVID‐19 and other communicable diseases. At times
throughout the school year these items may be mandated for students, staff, and guests; at
other times it may be highly recommended. No facial coverings or any other Personal
Protective Equipment will be allowed if they in any way cause a distraction or disruption
to the educational setting.
● Students shall not use earbuds or headphones in the hallway, cafeteria, gymnasium, or
any other location on the school campus except at times authorized by a teacher or school
official for educational purposes.
● As tattoos are not legal prior to the age of 18, FISD discourages underage tattoos. Tattoos
may not create a distraction to the learning environment.
Students are expected to be in dress code at Ferris ISD extracurricular events.

Administrators will have complete and final judgment on all matters concerning interpretation of
the student dress menu. Matters concerning appearance and dress not specifically covered in the
dress code policy shall be within the discretion of the administrator.

in the public school and educational setting can be used to resolve most matters. Individuals
desiring further clarification should contact the campus principal of the school their child attends.
The campus principal or assistant principal shall be the final authority as to the appropriateness
of student attire on each respective campus. The campus principal or his/her designee has the
final say on what clothing may or may not be worn at an extracurricular event.
arents should be aware that certain colors and brands of clothing might be gang-related. The

administration reserves the right, at any time during the school year, to ban a certain color or
brand of clothing. Campus administration will make an attempt to notify parents when the
necessity arises to enact such a ban. This ban will be implemented thoughtfully and fairly,
prioritizing the safety and best interests of all students.
