It is argued by some that the working week should be shorten and
we should prolong weekend for employees. I completely agree with
this view for two main reasons.
First and foremost, a longer weekend produces happier employees.
Happier employees mean higher work efficiency, stronger
motivation to work and greater royalty. As is often the case, many
workers around the world have only one day off in a week and some
even have only just one day off in a month. It is natural that many of
them are unhappy and depressed as they have no time for
themselves or other meaningful acitivities in life, such as spending
time with their family or friends or travelling to see the world. As a
result, they feel demotivated to work and are less royal to their
employers. However, a longer weekend enables employees to strike
a balance between work and life and have time to take care of their
inner needs. Sufficient rest is indispensable for people to feel ready
to take on various challengs at work and in life.
Another point to consider is that a longer weekend can also benefit
a company by significantly cutting the business running cost.
Specifically, companies need to spend less budget in maintaining
the daily operation. As we all know, as long as employees are in the
office, the air conditioners, drinking machines, the lights will have to
be turned on and the cleaning ladies will have to be present to
maintain hygience. These extra costs can be largely reduced if
employees spend less time in the office. Moreover, some companies
will reduce their salary when their employees work less time.
Usually, their employees will agree with this agreement.
In conclusion, a shorter working week is beneficial to both workers
and employers. It is good for improving employees' work
performance and royalty as well as reducing the cost of businesses.
