Titanic (1997) Film Review
Nothing on Earth could come between them. A movie which had the audience engaged; physically and emotionally. The adventure of an ill-fated maiden voyage as it sets sail to America. The spectacular graphics and visual effects had me set sail the moment the magic began on screen. Titanic is a movie not to be seen but to be experienced. James Cameron surely threw the anchor and went in on this one. After watching Titanic for the first time, my heart was anchored. As well as the full movie I also got to see the behind the scenes which was amazing too. I continued watching it religiously and it soon got nominated for the best movie award by me. Titanic will not fail to impress. The story begins when a pitiless adventurer - called Brock Lovett (Bill Paxton) - search the ruins of the RMS Titanic to find the heart of the ocean . An image, of a naked woman, is emerged from the ruins and televised. Brock Lovett receives a phone call from an old lady called Rose Dawson Calvert (Gloria Stewart) who claims she s the one drawn in the picture. When she was questioned about the photograph, the story unravelled. Rose DeWitt Bukator (Kate Winslet) a 17 year old first class passenger had boarded the maiden voyage to marry Caledon Cal Hockley (Billy Zane). Rose s mother France s Fisher was taking her daughter Rose to America to marry Caledon. Caledon was rich and her mother could see that. Thoughts and emotions were whirling around in Rose s head until one day she couldn t take it anymore. As the stars shone above she attempted to commit suicide, her heart was captured by Jack Dawson (Leonardo DiCaprio), a charming third class passenger. Rose had carried on seeing Jack despite the disapproval from her mother and Hockley. Hockley did everything to stop them from seeing each other. However, the unbearably tragic historic event which struck the ship was to change everything. Cameron had ventured out to produce the most phenomenal masterpiece. The millions which were spent had all paid off. The eleven Oscar winning movie Titanic had brought tears to people s eyes and hit their inner feelings. The effects that were put into the final scene of the ship sinking were realistically gripping. The focus on one couple s love battle made the ending more emotional. The well played realist characterisation made it believable and captivating. Leonardo DiCaprio s character wasn t explored in depth as much as Kate Winslet s. Jack s traits were soon discovered and clear to the audience. The class conscious romantic drama keeps the audience captured the minute it sets sail. The epic Titanic sinking scene is surely jaw dropping. There is a focus on the two main characters which in this case is Jack and Rose. Titanic is unlike other films where there are a wide range of characters which all have different stories such as The Towering Inferno. There is a captivation classic approach to the film which engages a wide audience age. James Horner also played a significant part in making this film come to life. He had composed several pieces such as Rose s Theme and Southampton which were also included in the film. He won a bestselling orchestral film soundtrack of all time for the work he had done for the movie Titanic. Not only the visual aspects of it, but also the auditory aspects surely make the experience a little more magical.
I give it a 5 star rating; although it deserves much more. Not only did it get approval from me, but it also got approval from millions of others. Titanic 3D is due to re-release in April. Definitely buying a monthly unlimited cinema pass!
