2024 Youth Theme: Sacrificial Service
2024 Youth Theme: Sacrificial Service
W e are s ll in the era of "Rebranded for the Vision" according to our last year's
theme. One of the key elements for this rebranding is sacrificial service. No one
can do anything meaningful with God without engaging in a sacrificial lifestyle.
Our Fathers in Ministry and even in the Bible lived and modelled this pa ern and everything
yielded for them as we can boldly tes fy with this year's Ministry's theme, "Beyond
Limita on" and of course being our World Congress year, it is going to be explosive.
The youth theme, "Sacrificial Service," is bome out of the passion for greater work in the
ministry. Sacrificial service can be viewed as having almost the same connota on, which
portrays the urgency and its Importance in the ministry now. Sacrifice is the act of
slaughtering an animal or person or surrendering a possession as offering to a deity, to
consecrate or express thanksgiving, to suffer loss, give up, renounce for an ideal or belief.
Whereas service stands for the ac on of helping or doing work for some, helping others
who need assistance (Luke 22:27) Even Jesus said, "I am among you as one who serves."
Why must we serve when we are already saved? And we are saved by grace not by work.
Yes, but true faith must translate itself into good ac on (Eph 8:7) Serve the Lord
wholeheartedly as if you were serving the Lord and not people. We must combine these
two key words if we are truly sure we want to rebrand the vision and be useful to self and
others. Alife without service is an aberra on.
We have heard daddy Jerry Ukah say on countless occasions that in real life and in
spirituality, the one who wins the ba le is usually the one with the highest sacrifice. The
amount of sacrifice you are ready and prepared to make determines your place in life (2Kg
3:26-27) "When the king of Moab saw that he was losing the ba le, he led seven hundred of
his warriors in a desperate a empt to break through the enemy lines near the king of Edom,
but they failed to escape.
So he took his oldest son, who would have been the next king and sacrificed him as a burnt
offering on the wall... so they withdrew and returned to their land. "This is a typical example
of high risk, high yield and low risk, low yield.
There are three things involved in sacrifice (1) who you are sacrificing for (2) what is being
sacrificed (3) the person sacrificing.
Who you are sacrificing for speaks about the object of authority and loyalty. This is the most
essen al feature in sacrifice. Are you sacrificing for God, the world, or self? Outside of God
all other sacrifices are lower sacrifices and highly temporary in nature.
Who is accep ng your sacrifice: God, Satan, man or yourself. Each of this has its own merit
and consequences. Who takes the glory of your giving is the ul mate boss of your life. What
are you willing to give and who are you giving it to?
The second degree of sacrifice speaks about the quality of the sacrifice, what are you
sacrificing?

The story of Cain and Abel speaks volume. Many people are great sacrificers once the gi
they are giving is a public good. Whether as a result of being in a certain posi on or the
other. They can give so long as it is not coming from within them, this kind of sacrifice does
not go far with God. Public goods are meant to benefit the public not to be converted as
personal good. We must be highly careful of the product we bring before God as sacrifice.
The person making the sacrifice deals with the individual involved. His vision, personality
carriage, and lifestyle. The heart in which you give is of utmost essence. Many people will
never give willingly un l they are seen as benefactor or a kind of god. Even when they are
seeing obvious needs they tum blind eyes wai ng un l they are placated before they can
give. This is a wicked shrewd, evil mind.
Your person is highly essen al tool for any acceptable offering before God. A proud,
haughty, selfish and unrepented hearts cannot offer acceptable gi to God. Purity of
thought, devo on, and commitment is needed. With the right sacrifice, nothing is
impossible.
Youth department this year has three main areas of focus: Mission, Sacrificial living and
Prayer and I am going to speak to these three in the context of our vision. You cannot be
involved in any tangible mission's work without being a living sacrifice and you can't pray
without a level of degree of personal sacrifice.
Hence, doing the work of Catholic Evangelism and every other mission ac vity is only
possible at the altar of sacrifice. Someone said Jesus has paid it all, no need for any further
sacrifice or effort.
This is nothing but a typical example of another gospel. All our General Core groupmembers
and fathers laid solid founda on of hard work, sacrifice and we are all living witnesses. We
may not do It same way they do but in our own genera on, hard work sacrifice, dedica on
and commitment must even be greater if we must push forward in this VUCA genera on of
today. Let's take some biblical examples:
Romans 9:1-4 says "I speak the truth in Christ I am not lying, my conscience confirms it
through the Holy Spirit; I have great sorrow and unceasing anguish in my heart.; for I could
wish that I myself were cursed and cut off from Christ for the sake of my people, those of my
own race, the people of Israel, theirs is the adop on to son ship; theirs the divine glory, the
covenants, the receiving of the law, the temple worship and the promises)
Do we s ll speak with u er truthfulness?
Are we not afraid of men and women God has placed as our leaders to the detriment of the
work? We now fear pastors more than God, Is the work of God moving on with you? How
many of us are free to speak truthfully to people we are leading without offending them and
us?
John8: 32says "Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free."
Have we not abandoned the work altogether and now playing church? Has Apostle Paul:
"my heart is filled with bi er sorrow and unending grief," When las burn for the work or for
catholic soul or any soul whatsoever?
Roman 10:1-4: "Brothers and sisters, my heart's desire and prayer to God Apostle is that
they may be saved, for I can tes fy about them that they are zealous for God, but
02

their zeal is not based on knowledge; since they did not know the righteousness of God and
sought to establish their own, they did not submit to God's righteousness. Christ is the
culmina on of the law so that there may be righteousness for everyone who believes."
Do you see us preach like vision minded Paul as youth? Do you want to know why? Sacrificial
living and the level of our focus, commitment, and devo on. Ability to resist distrac ons
from within and outside our ministry. Luke 9:23: "deny himself, take up his cross daily and
follow me."
We have sacrifices we need to make daily in choosing to follow Christ. These include many
worldly ac vi es such as games, and some rela onships we need to give up as they aren't in
line with what God has ordained for us to do because they are drawing us away from Christ.
Certain friendships, places, and connec ons are no good.
The joy of making sacrifice is that they won't go unrewarded. The willingness and obedience
is very essen al in sacrificial living (Isaiah 1:19). Remember the hymn: trust and obey for
there is no way other way to be happy in Jesus than to trust and obey. Most hardships,
frustra on and calami es Chris ans experience stem from disobedience orchestrated by
straying away from Jesus through His word (Proverbs 15:10)
In conclusion, we are living sacrifices meaning we do not own ourselves. This is highly
contrary to modern minds and modern psychology whose emphasis is on self-preserva on,
domina on, self-will, self-asser on and self-dominated principles. There is no readymade
success. Nothing is absolutely free. Every soul you see in the kingdom is a product of
somebody's sacrifice.
Staying with Christ and those who have understood this mandate of 2Corithians 5:17 is very
crucial. No soul will be born again without the instrumentality of somebody's sacrifice be it
in prayer or preaching un l such soul is saved,
