The following pattern is made for those who know the basics of crocheting amigurumi toys
and how to sew the elements together. It is intended for personal use only; please do not
distribute, alter or sell this pattern.

To make this teether rattle you will need :
• 2.5mm crochet hook
• 100% cotton DK yarn (I use the Ricorumi brand) in the following
colours:
cream/white (Ricorumi shade 001 or 002); yellow/gold (Ricorumi
shade 006 or 063); pink – one and a half balls of 25g yarn
(Ricorumi shade 010)
• scrap black yarn for embroidering eye details
• 7cm diameter natural wood teething ring
• soft toy filling
• rattle box insert
• blunt-end yarn needle *Feel free to change up the
• scissors colours as you see fit! J
• stitch marker (optional)

The height of the finished rattle is around 15cm. The size of your rattle
will differ if you choose to use a different size crochet hook or
teething ring, or if you use different weight yarn.
Abbreviations (US) : *Crochet in continuous
R – row/round (R1 : 1st row/round, R2 : 2nd row/round etc.) rounds – do not slip stitch or
ch – chain turn unless otherwise
sc – single crochet indicated.
sk – skip
sl st – slip stitch
inc – increase (2 single crochets in one stitch)
dec – decrease (2 stitches together through front loops)
(...)*? – repeat the instructions in brackets the number of times stated (*)
[…] – the number of stitches in total at end of row

Head :
Work in rounds, starting with cream/white
yarn for the muzzle. Use a stitch marker to
mark the end of the round.
R1: sc 6 in magic ring [6]
R2: (inc)*6 [12]
R3: (sc 1, inc)*6 [18]
R4: (sc 2, inc)*6 [24]
R5-R8: sc 24 [24]
Change to pink yarn. To change colour at
the beginning of the round, complete the
following steps on the last stitch of the
previous round:
1. Start the single crochet as normal
(yarn over and pull through).
2. Leave the two loops on your hook.
3. Wrap the new colour yarn around the
hook and pull the new colour through
the two loops.
Continue as normal in the new colour.

Stuff half the head with soft toy filling and
then insert the rattle box.

Finish stuffing the head until it is quite firm.

Fasten off and pull tight, then weave in
the tail.

Head crest (make 2) :
Work in rows using pink yarn.
R1: ch 36 [36]
R2: starting in second chain:
sc 3, (3 sc in one chain, sc 6)*4, 3 sc in one
chain, sc 3, ch 1, turn [45]
R3: starting in second chain:
sc 4, (3 sc in one stitch, sc 3, sk 2, sc 3)*4, 3
sc in one stitch, sc 4, ch 1, turn [47]
R4: starting in second chain:
sc 5, (3 sc in one stitch, sc 3, sk 2, sc 3)*4, 3

R5: starting in second chain:

Fasten off and make a second crest.
Head crest assembly :
Once you have made two crests, put the
two head pieces together (right side
facing out) and match them up carefully.
Crochet the two pieces together by
matching stitches along the top as
follows:
sc 8, (3 sc in one stitch, sc 4, sk 2, sc 4)*4, 3
sc in one stitch, sc 8
Fasten off and leave a long tail for sewing
/ assembly of head.
Using white yarn, embroider the crest
details by wrapping the yarn around the
first row at the top of each point until the
desired thickness / size is reached (about
10 times).

Bigger horn (make 2) :
Work in rounds using gold / yellow yarn.
R1: sc 4 in magic ring [4]
R2: (sc 1, inc)*2 [6]

Sl st in first stitch of R5
Fasten off and leave a long tail for sewing
/ assembly.
Smaller horn :
Work in rounds using gold / yellow yarn.
R1: sc 4 in magic ring [4]

R4: sc 8 [8]

Fasten off and leave a long tail for sewing

Assembling head :
1. Stuff the three horns with soft toy filling.
2. Place the smaller horn in the centre of
the muzzle, with the bottom sitting
between rows 2 and 3. Secure firmly.
3. Place the bigger horns on the top of Step 2
the head, with the bottoms sitting
between rows 13 and 14. There should
be roughly 9 stitches between the
horns.
4. Pin the crest in place around the back
of the head. The points in the middle
should be sitting between rows 18 and
19. The bottom points should be sitting
between rows 13 and 14. Sew the
crest to the head, starting at the Step 3
centre outwards to make sure the
crest lies flat.
5. Embroider the eye details using two
strands of black yarn as pictured. The
inner corner should start between rows
10 and 11.
6. If you wanted, you could embroider a
smile with the black yarn!

Body (make 2) :
Work in rows using pink yarn. The starting
chain should fit snugly around the
wooden teething ring. If you have used a
different sized ring, adjust the number of
chain stiches accordingly.
R1: ch 10 [10]
R2-R19: starting in second chain:
sc 9, ch 1, turn [9]
R20: sc 9 [9]
Fasten off and leave a long tail for sewing
/ assembly.
Feet (make 2) :
Work in rounds using pink yarn. Use a
stitch marker to mark the end of the
round.
R1: sc 6 in magic circle [6]
R2: (inc)*6 [12]
R3: (sc 1, inc)*6 [18]
R4: (sc 2, inc)*6 [24]
R5: sc 24 blo – back loops only [24]
R6: sc 24 [24]
R7: (sc 2, dec)*6 [18]

Stuff the feet with soft toy filling.
R10: (sc 2, dec)*3 [9]
Fasten off and leave a long tail for sewing
/ assembly.
Using white yarn, embroider the toe
details by wrapping the yarn around rows
4-5 about 8 times. Leave 3 stitches
between each toe.

Tail (optional) :
Work in rounds using pink yarn. Use a
stitch marker to mark the end of the
round.

Stuff the tail with soft toy filling.

Fasten off and leave a long tail for sewing
/ assembly.
You are going to add a few French knots
to the front of the tail using cream / white
yarn. Follow the steps to create 8-9 tail
spots as shown in the pictures.
1. Thread your yarn needle, tie a knot at
the end of the yarn, and bring the
needle up through the work (back to
front) in the place where you want the
knot to be.
2. Wrap the yarn you are holding around
the needle three times close to your
piece of work.
3. Place the needle back through the
knit fabric, close to where you came
up but not in exactly the same place.
4. Slowly pull the needle through at the
other side. You may have to hold the
knot as the needle goes back through
to make sure your knot doesn’t pull
through to the back of the fabric.
Fasten off and hide tail.

Assembling rattle :
1. Sew the upper and lower body pieces
around the wooden ring. Once sewn,
move seam to middle of ring to hide.
2. Attach the head firmly to the centre of
the upper body. Step 1
3. Attach the feet firmly to the edges of
the lower body.
4. Attach the tail (optional) securely to
the back of the lower body.
