UNIT 4_ CLASS NOTES

Extended work model

Redundance payment: amount of costs that you must pay if you fire
a worker
Periphery 2: no payroll of the company

Core enterprise

Full time jobs

In the hull this are the key people (general director, scientists, etc.)
The level of compromise of these people is higher

FIRST PERIPHERY
They are part of the same value chain, and they do their jobs
They could be in the payroll or outside the payroll. The are not in the
core
An example of the petrol stations.

They tend to be more outside of the payroll

To give the company more flexibility

SECOND PERIPHERY
Here we have independent experts such us people who work in
design,etc.
they work for certain programs
is increasing because of modern technology is easier to work through
home.
They work when they are demanding, when they are needed.

2. CURRENT TRENDS
Three current trends:
Working from home
People who work in home they have more facilities to compaginar la
vida personal y el trabajo.
It depends on the nature of the task you are performing
You are out of the look  when you work in home.
People is happy working in home, they always try to do it (new:
homeworker number rise 13 % in five years)

Hear the new by lucy Kellaway about her ideas of working at home
and working in the office. (Take some ideas)

Part time work

For example, while you are studying you can have a part time work
It is also a solution because when sometimes companies don’t need
so much workers there are this part time works for those people who
need little incomes.

Old skills for new jobs

Demographic problems: we have more older population

(elder people)
Appear new technology  people need to learn new skills
for this new technology

Germany don’t have enough younger people with the

sufficient coalification

HOW TO MEASURE IT
Concepts
Working age population (16 to 64 age)
Labour force (students are not part of the labour force. People who
have a work or they are looking for one)
Activity rate: the percentage of working age population that are
Low 70 %  low activity rate
Over 70%  high activity rate
Between 70% and 80%
Unemployment rate: percentage people that are looking for a job or
percentage of labour force.
Full employment when the rate is over 4 %.

OKUN’S LAW:
When the Spanish economy grow more than 1.5% a year  reduce
the unemployment rate
And when it grows less than 1.5% a year  the unemployment rate
increase.
