5. A. In this age of digital revolution, children have access to every bit of information they need easily by just one
click on the internet. While this has made research an easy act by making information readily available, it has
been seen to have negatively affected the brain capacity of young people. Children these days do not have to
memorise anything which affects their brain’s ability to process and retain information. This problem, however,
can be easily solved with several activities that boost brain power. Activities like writing, playing jigsaw
puzzles, solving crosswords or Sudoku are the most effective of these methods. While children are encouraged
to spend 20% of their free time on writing, they should give 20% of their free time to brain games including
jigsaw puzzles, crosswords, Sudoku, etc. Reading the newspaper and discussing current affairs with friends or
family are activities that are nearly as effective as social interactions and play a crucial role in stimulating brain
power. Regular exercise also helps because it increases the blood flow and thus energises the brain. Though not
as effective as other methods, listening to music may also boost brain power.

B. It is believed that a healthy body harbours a healthy mind. Sports had been accepted a long time ago as
something essential for the proper growth and development of our body especially children. Gone are the days
when the age old myth that academic excellence is the only foundation for a successful career was widely
accepted and practised. The myth has been replaced for the better and school authorities as well as parents
have realised the benefits of encouraging their children to play and participate in Sports. Such a change has
been a result of the various studies that indicated the innumerable benefits that sports have on children. The
studies found that while it is majorly responsible for ensuring physical fitness, it has many social and mental
benefits. Sports boost discipline, reduce stress and improve social skills. Further, in the present world, Sports
offers many new career opportunities. Hence, Sports are an important part of holistic schooling.

(ii) According to Natalya, Oxen Meadows belonged to them because both her grandfather and great

theirs. She took this ancestral ‘knowledge’ as a clear proof that Oxen Meadows had always been their
property.

The descriptions provided by her are not useful in surviving the wild forests and they serve a comedic purpose.
(ii) The advice given by elders is crucial to young lives holds true for the poem ‘For Anne Gregory’. Anne had
decided to change her hair colour so that somebody would love her for herself alone. However, the speaker

younger generation as it makes them understand life. In this case, they understand to withstand the

overcome his fear of flying and he could take a plunge.
(v) Anne justified her being a chatterbox in her essay by explaining that talking was a student’s trait and that she

makes on Max.

completely invisible. He knocked Mr Jaffers unconscious and escaped.
10. A. Good morning, everyone!
Today, I would like to speak on the principle of ‘Forgive and Forget’ and how it helps in maintaining cordial
relations with neighbours. I read a play titled ‘The Proposal’ recently which highlighted this principle.
Initially, the neighbours in the play-Lomov, Natalya and Chubukov were fighting over petty issues.
By doing this, they were putting important issues behind them and were wasting their time by arguing over
petty issues. These arguments slowly developed into fights and as a result they damaged their relationships
with each other. It was only when Natalya came to know that Lomov had come to her house to propose her that
she left the topic of argument (Oxen Meadows) behind. Eventually, she asked for forgiveness from Lomov and
requested him to come to the point.
From this play, I learned that it is mandatory to adopt the principle of ‘Forgive and Forget’ to maintain cordial
relationship with our friends and neighbours. I hope what I said made sense with you.
Thank you

B. It is true that bravery and courage are situational and spontaneous. This fact has been aptly conveyed in the
poem ‘The Tale of Custard the Dragon’ wherein the dragon was considered a coward. He was laughed at for
crying for a nice safe cage. He never boasted of his bravery and courage like Belinda and her other pets.
Everyone else, including Belinda, Ink, Blink and Mustard claimed to be brave. They even made fun of Custard’s
cowardice. However, when the time to show their courage came, none of them could face the danger.
They hid themselves in some corner of the house. It was only Custard who dared to face the frightening pirate.
He not only fought the pirate but also ate him up. It was a dangerous situation to which Custard responded
spontaneously. His courage and bravery came out in a threatening situation. Hence, it is true that qualities like
courage and bravery are situational and spontaneous.

Dear Diary
It’s been tough the past few years, for my wife, Matilda and me. As I reflect on our experience, I can’t help but
think about the broader societal issues that have contributed to our predicament.
It’s clear to me now that our society is structured in a way that makes upward mobility difficult, if not
impossible. The rich get richer, while the rest of us struggle to make ends meet. We live in a world where social
status is determined by the amount of wealth one possesses rather than by one’s character or virtues. This
narrow view of success has led many people, including Matilda, to pursue material possessions at the expense
of their own happiness.
The loss of the borrowed necklace was a painful lesson for both of us. It reminded us that the pursuit of social
status and upward mobility can be a trap, leading people to sacrifice their happiness and well-being in the
pursuit of an unattainable dream.

B. The thief ’s character arc in the story shows a transformation from an experienced criminal to a person who
learns to trust and work hard for a living. At the beginning of the story, the thief is portrayed as an experienced
criminal who is focused on staying ahead of the law. He is initially attracted to Anil because he believes he can
exploit the young man’s trusting nature. As the story progresses, the thief begins to develop a friendship with
Anil who teaches him how to cook, write and read. This transformation of the thief ’s character reaches a climax
when he is presented with an opportunity to steal money from Anil but instead chooses to resist the temptation
and considers the consequences of his actions. This is a significant change from the beginning of the story when
the thief was only interested in self-gain. Although the thief has not completely abandoned his criminal ways,
the fact that he hesitated to jump on the train to escape with the stolen money shows that he has developed a
moral conscience.
