Below you will find the details of the 7th Assignment (Online) .Please read them and get ready for
the assignment. While getting ready for the assignment, you need to follow the steps below. It’s
your responsibility to get ready for the assignment!

Submission time: 60 MINUTES (The invigilator will announce the exact start and finish time!)
Preparation for the Assignment
There isn’t an outside class study for this assignment!
Read all the reading & listening texts and check your notes on vocabulary
Revise unit in Unit 8 and 9.
8 and 9 That does not mean that you should not revise the vocabulary in the other
units that you have covered until now.
Reminders For the 7th assignment, you will have 60 minutes!
There will be a Turnitin similarity report for your essay!
o What is Turnitin?
o Turnitin is an Internet-based plagiarism detection service. As
soon as you submit your assignment on Moodle, Turnitin shares
an originality report with the instructor and (sometimes) with the
students! After you submit your assignment, you cannot SUBMIT
it AGAIN! The originality report shows us how YOUR assignment
and another piece of writing on the Internet such as another
student’s writing, some part of a sample text from any websites,
some sentences that are directly copied and pasted from a piece
of writing, etc are SIMILAR to each other.
o Please check “The Rubric (Plagiarism Updated)” to learn
more about our NEW principles regarding plagiarism!

(ONLINE) WRITING ASSIGNMENTS GROUND RULES FOR STUDENTS
*The blue NOTES are the updates. Please read these parts VERY CAREFULLY!
ESPECIALLY THE UPDATES ABOUT “REMOVE” SUBMISSION BUTTON are CRITICAL!
BEFORE THE ASSIGNMENT
Students are responsible for following the announcements about the assignment and
getting ready for it.
Students have to read all the necessary documents related to the assignments.
FAQs about (Online) Writing Assignments document is updated. Read the updates very
carefully!
If students have a problem during the assignment and if the solution is already provided
in these documents, they will not get any help.
Students have to join the Zoom session of their class before the assignment.
Students have to have their IDs with them before the session. The invigilator may ask
them to show their IDs before the assignment begins.
Log into moodle2 and go to the “online class” tab. From there, find the Zoom session
for the assignment of the level / section you are invigilating. For example, if you are
invigilating assignment 3, and the level / section is C01, the assignment session will be
titled C01 Assignment 3.
When all the classes are ready to start, the assignment starts!
The exact start and finish time for the assignment is announced by the invigilator!
The instructor reminds students about the remaining time for a few times during the
assignment.
The Assignment and the Zoom link will be below the Online Class tab as usual.
The ETHICAL CONSENT FORM for assignments will be in the description box. Read it
before the assignment starts!
The cameras will be checked if they are open or not.
The microphones will be checked if they are unmuted. The invigilator must be able to
hear the students.
The speakers will be muted!
Virtual background is not allowed! Your surroundings should be clearly visible to the
invigilator.
Students are not allowed to use ear phones!

Read any information that the invigilator shares with you via Zoom chatbox.
DURING THE ASSIGNMENT
Students have to be in the Zoom session during the assignment.
Students are responsible for checking Zoom chatbox during the assignment.
Students have to keep their cameras on during the assignment.
If students do not have their cameras open, the assignment will NOT be graded!
Students have to mute the sound during the assignment.
If students experience any technical problem, they have to take a screenshot and inform
the invigilator through chat box. The invigilator directs the student to the Zoom HELP
session immediately. After that, students move on to the Zoom HELP Session which is
created to support them during the assignment.
o When students attend the Zoom HELP session during the assignment,
their cameras have to be on the whole time! Students are not allowed to
turn the cameras off until the problem is solved and the assignment is
submitted successfully! After the problem is solved, the students have to
go back to their own Zoom session!

HELP Session suggests some solutions to the students.
The name of the Zoom HELP session is the same as the assignment.
If students have a problem during the assignment but DO NOT take a screenshot to inform
the instructor and DO NOT JOIN the Zoom HELP session immediately, the further
objections/emails after the assignment WILL NOT RECEIVE any response.
The assignment format has to be submitted as an ONLINE TEXT or a WORD FILE!
It’s students’ responsibility to check the file format beforehand. If a problem occurs
while grading the assignment because of the format (for example IPhones might upload
the file in .pages and that format might cause a problem), students WILL NOT be given
an extended deadline to upload the assignment again. The assignments that are shared
via a link to the document WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED!
Students need to take the photo of the assignment in case of any other technical problems.
Students have EXACTLY 60 minutes to SUBMIT the online assignment! The invigilator
reminds students about the remaining time for a few times via Zoom chatbox. Please do
not keep asking the remaining time not to disturb the other students!

Students can submit their assignment anytime in 60 minutes. However, after students
SUBMIT the assignment, they DO NOT HAVE a chance to resubmit. Once students click
on “Save Changes”, they WILL NOT have a chance to change anything after 60 minutes.
If students submit the assignment, it’s students’ responsibility not to click
on “REMOVE SUBMISSION” button in 60 minutes. If they click on this button
and remove their submission and their time is up, the submission WILL NOT
BE accepted!
Check the screenshots below and make sure that you understand NOT TO
CLICK ON “REMOVE SUBMISSION” in 60 minutes!
Please take a screenshot of your assignment every 10 minutes in case of
inconveniences. For us to be able to help you, please don't wait until the last
minute to write /upload your assignment.
Early finishers CANNOT leave the Zoom session until the invigilator tells them that “This
is the end of the assignment!”. Until the end of the assignment, ALL the students have to
be in the session and they have to keep the camera open! Early finishers have to stay
away from the keyboard! Their microphones have to be unmuted until the session ends.
During the assignment, if students want to follow the traditional methods such as writing
the assignment on a piece of paper and then transferring it to Moodle, they have to arrange

their cameras accordingly. Adjust the angle of your camera so as to show your whole face,
your hands, the piece of paper that you use, etc. Your whole face has to be clearly visible
to the invigilator throughout the exam. If students cannot make the necessary
arrangements, they are not allowed to follow the traditional methods. do so. The instructor
has to warn them first. If students continue doing the unauthorized acts, the recording is
checked and ELS has the right to take actions. It is also students’ responsibility to use the
time CAREFULLY! Students WON’T be given any EXTRA time to TRANSFER the
assignment to Moodle!
AFTER THE ASSIGNMENT
Even if students finish early, they are NOT allowed to leave the zoom session until the
invigilator takes attendance and informs everyone that the session is over. Students are
to remain in the assignment session until the invigilator ends the session.
If students send an email about the assignment after the deadline and if they HAVEN’T
taken a screenshot to inform the instructor and HAVEN’T JOINED the Zoom session
immediately when they had a problem, they WILL NOT RECEIVE any response.

ETHICAL CONSENT FORM for (Online) Writing Assignments
I hereby confirm that during the assignment,
- I will not use Google translate or any other Turkish or English dictionaries.

- ask for the “desktop version” from the settings section
If these do not work, try the following:
- download Chrome app and use it instead of Safari

The final solution is to use the Moodle app.
However, if you still can’t see the user agreement page at all, your submission won’t be
evaluated by Turnitin, so please ask for help from your instructor!
(Q) : When I upload my answer, Turnitin translates it into Turkish. What might be the reason?
(A) : Please check your browser’s (preferably Google Chrome) language. If it’s Turkish, please

(A) : There two ways to have a bigger bow to write your text in it. The first one is to click on
the “full screen” icon on the menu bar at the top of the online text box. The second one is to
expand the box by holding and moving the box frame downwards. The second option is
applicable only in web browsers. If you experience a similar problem while using Moodle app,
you can switch to browser.

I am sure I have submitted the assignment.” What is the problem?
(A): You have submitted the assignment before the deadline but then you clicked on “Remove
Submission”. It’s your responsibility NOT TO click on that. Please check the meaning of
“remove” if you do not know what it means. Do not click on any buttons if you do not know
what it means! After this announcement, if you click on REMOVE SUBMISSION , the
assignment WILL BE GRADED AS “0” ZERO.

successfully and now the file is EMPTY. What should I do?”
(Q): “I have written my assignment in 60 minutes, but I THOUGHT I SAVED the word file NOT
on my desktop but I COULD NOT FIND IT. LATER I UNDERSTTID THAT THE FILE WAS SAVED ON
CLOUD (especially for MACs). My time is up. And now, I CANNOT find the file. What should I
do?”
(Q): I have written my assignment in 60 minutes, but I SAVED the assignment in the
“PHOTOS”, “DOCUMENTS”, ETC. files. And towards the end of the assignment, I’ve panicked
and I COULD NOT FIND WHERE THE FILE IS. TIME IS UP!
ANSWERS for all the questions above. Read the answer VERY CAREFULLY!
You should learn and /or revise how to save the Word file on your computer successfully.
You have to follow the step below:
1. Download the file from Moodle,
2. Save the Word file successfully on your computer. Check the location of file before you
start. Be sure that the file is not saved under “photos”, “documents”. It is better to save it on
DESKTOP!!
3. Make sure the automatic save function is enabled. Go to File > Options > Save and check
the boxes “Save Autorecover information every 10 minutes” and “Keep the last autosaved
version if I close without saving.”.
4. Take a screenshot of your assignment a few times during the assignment in case your Word
stops working.
