Specimen Nature: TRANSURETHRAL RESECTION OF PROSTATE


Specimen Site: PROSTATE
History: Benign prostatic hyperplasia.

Gross: Specimen container is labeled with the patient's name and medical record number and is unmarked for site.
Received in formalin are multiple prostatic chips collectively measuring 35 x 29 x 18 mm. The entire
specimen is submitted in blocks (A-F).

Micro: Sections reveal prostatic parenchyma showing hyperplasia of glandular and stromal components. The glands
show papillary infoldings and budding and are lined by columnar epithelium with outer continuous basal cell
layer. The epithelial cells show pale cytoplasm, regular and centrally located nuclei. There is stromal smooth
muscle proliferation.
