1) INTRODUCTION TO SYSTEM APPLICATIONS

The BTS MEGAPACK Horizontal Lifeline System (HLS), is designed as a fall restraint system using restraint technique when
working on top of Megapacks.
1.1) Specifications
Working Load Limit of HLS: Up to two (2) person, weighing a maximum of 136kg each, including all clothing, tools and
equipment.
1.2) Safety Instructions / warnings – MUST READ PRIOR TO USE
1. This product MUST only be installed by a person who is deemed competent or qualified based on local requirements
in the installation of this safety equipment.
2. Prior to use, ensure all installation and operating procedures have been read and understood.
3. Use appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when installing and operating the system. Understand and
accept the possibilities and restrictions of the protective equipment as well as the risk associated with its use.
4. Visually inspect the system for damage prior and after use. The system MUST NOT be used if there is any
deterioration or deformation of any components or the structure to which the system is attached to.
5. DO NOT modify any of the system components.
6. System shall not be used for any other purpose other than described in this user manual.
7. In the event of a fall with a resulting strain, the system must be checked by a competent person before use.
8. DO NOT USE the equipment and tag “OUT OF SERVICE” if:
- Damage or wear to its components is found.
- It has sustained a fall.
- Defects have been detected during regular inspections.
- The total service life of the equipment has elapsed (10 years).
- The product identification is no longer legible.
9. Users of the system should be fully trained and competent in work positioning and fall restraint technique to
minimize risk of falls.
10. Ensure that the safe working zones mentioned in this manual are adhered to along with the suggested attachments
based on the zone the operator is working in.
11. Ensure all workplace OH&S requirements are identified and understood. A risk assessment with a site specific
safe work method procedure must be completed and approved by workplace management prior to commencing
work.
12. Work sites have associated a number of potential hazards related to the site itself. These may include, but are not
limited to:
- Poisonous or explosive atmospheric conditions.
- Poisonous or corrosive chemical hazards.
- Dust and other airborne contaminants.
- Hot surfaces.
- Electrical hazards including overhead power lines.
- Sharp edges.
- Engulfment hazards.
- Moving machinery.
- Work Surfaces unconsolidated fill, rocky uneven ground, corrugated compacted hardstand and soft sandy
ground.
- Weather conditions such as high wind.

BTS / TESLA Working @ Heights on Megapacks Configurations

All of these factors must be taken into consideration when selecting equipment for any given application.
Failure to follow all safety, installation, usage and maintenance instructions may result in serious
injury or death.
13. A rescue plan must be devised and be ready to be implemented prior to usage of the Kit.
14. This system requires a detailed periodic inspection at intervals no greater than three (3) months or in accordance
with local regulations.
15. Use only a full body harness designed, tested and approved for fall arrest when connecting a person to this
system.
16. Persons with muscular, skeletal and physical disorders should consult a physician before using Personal Fall
Protection equipment.

2) APPLICATION
The BTS TESLA Working at Heights Megapack Kit, is designed as a fall restraint system using restraint technique when
working on top of Megapacks. The ISO Lock Knuckle is designed to utilise the corner castings on the Megapack as the
installation point for the system.
There are restrictions and limitations that must be carefully considered in the selection, installation and operation of this
equipment.
Note: Serious injury or death may result from failure to consider factors outlined in the following sections.
2.1) Limitations
a. The system is only suitable for up to two users (Maximum weight including PPE and tools 136kg each) to be
attached at any one time. Check system specification for details.
b. The Megapack shall be inspected and deemed structurally sound by a competent person, capable of withstanding
25kN force applied to the ISO corner castings.

3) GENERAL SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

3.1) Connectors
All connectors used in the system must be compatible with each other to ensure sufficient strength and eliminate the risk
of accidental disengagement during use. Any connectors not supplied by BTS must be selected and approved by a EHS
(Environment Health & safety).
3.2) Full Body Harness
Use only a full body harness designed tested and approved for fall arrest as per local /country safety standards.
Warning – Body belts or straps MUST NOT be used, as they do not provide adequate restraint/support
to the body and may cause serious injury or death in the event of a fall.

4) SYSTEM INSTALLATION and USE

Prior to installation of Megapack horizontal static line kit in the ISO corner casting of the Megapack, a site risk assessment
and hazard identification programme must be conducted and risk removed/controlled by appropriate measures.
Inspection of equipment must be conducted prior to installation.

STEP 1. Harness
Step 1.1. Inspection before use
BASIC HARNESS INSPECTION
Before use inspection - User to check the following points.
• Date of manufacture: The harness cannot be older
than 10 years from date of manufacture. The reason
for this life limitation on a harness is because of UV
degradation of the webbing.
Inspect webbing for:
• Abrasion - scuff marks on webbing.
• Cuts - score marks or cuts in webbing.
• Heat - burn marks or shiny surfaces on webbing.
• Chemicals - grease, paint, acidic contact on webbing.
• Excessive stretching - Loose stitching.
• Check all buckles, adjusters and connection hardware
for cuts, nicks, corrosion, heat, Damage, bending,
warping, twisting or cracking.
• Examine all stitching areas to ensure that no stitching
has been cut, broken, heat or chemical damaged or
stretched.
If any of the above faults are present then the harness
should be returned to BTS for further inspection.

Step 1.2. Fit the harness as per instructions below

1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7.
1. Hold the harness by the rear dorsal “D”
ring, ensure that all black quick release side
release buckles are loosened / or opened
and that there are no twisted straps.
2. If chest or leg straps are buckled, release
straps and unbuckle them at this time.
3. Slide arms through shoulder straps like you
would a shirt. Position straps over shoulder
so Dee ring is located in the middle of your
back between the shoulder blades.
4. Connect chest black quick release side
release buckle.
5. Adjust shoulder straps.
6. Pull harness down at the back so sub pelvic
strap sits under the buttocks.
7. Connect leg black quick release side release
buckle and adjust to a snug fit.

BTS / TESLA Working @ Heights on Megapacks Configurations

Step 1.3. Once the harness is fitted have a co-worker attach the
twin leg adjustable lanyard to the rear dorsal “D” ring on the rear
of the harness.

Step 1.4. Connect the two ends of the twin leg adjustable
lanyard to the front loops on the harness as shown below. Thus,
the lanyard does not present a trip hazard when moving.
